CLARKSTON CHIEFS ::Rule Changes
2009 Rule Changes
The following are excerpts of the NYFL rule changes for 2009.  The final wording for the rules will be publised shortly by the NYFL.

Football Rule Change Summary
-The start date for the 2009 season is August 3rd.
- Coaches can coach flag football as long as it concludes prior to the start of the NYFL season.
- The date for determining player eligibility remains September 1st.
- No multiple jersey numbers allowed on the same team.
- Jersey numbers do not have to correspond to player position.
- No electronic equipment allowed on players (big penalties).
- Player mandatory equipment: helmet, shoulder pads, hip pads, tail pad, supporter, thigh pads, knee pads, mouth guard, pants, and jersey.
- Weight limits remain the same with exception of X-man (see below).
- Weight variance with equipment: 6 lbs-Freshman, 7 lbs-JV, 8 lbs-Varsity.
- X-man rule: can be up to 10 lbs. over limit, up to 5 X-men per team but only 2 on the field at a time, maximum of 4 plays per half, must play center guard or tackle, cannot advance the ball, cannot be on kickoff or return and no 14 year old X-men.
- No cut blocking allowed.
- Superbowl to be hosted by Auburn Hills.



Cheer Rule Change Summary
- Change wording of cheer mom to team parent or director.
- Cheer roster may stay open until middle school try outs are over.
- Youths who participate in any competitive football or cheerleading program are not eligible to simultaneously compete in Mega Cheer.
- Date for age eligibility remains September 1st.
- Multiple team franchises can combine squads for competition only if the combination yields maximum of 16 cheerleaders.
- All cheerleaders are required to be at every game, squads must show up for game regardless of weather conditions.
- The NYFL has discussed the cheerleading dual participation issue with the Michigan High School Athletic Association (MHSAA) and they determined the dual participation rule does not apply and there is no problem with an athlete participating in the NYFL program and the school program.  If you have any questions regarding the elimination of the dual participation restriction please contact us at info@clarkstonchiefs.org.
