Claiborne Sparks, Inc. is proud to announce that it has awarded Ms. Ivy Cains, a 2017 Claiborne Sparks, Inc. Scholarship.

Ms. Cains is the daughter of Dieadra and Ivory Cains.  

Ivy graduated from Opelousas High School and will be participate in the Interdisciplinary Studies Program at the University of New Orleand with a double major in English and Business.

Ivy attended Opelousas Senior High School and Westminster christian Academy in St. Landry Parish for her secondary education.  While at Westminster christian Academy, she was a member of the National Honors Society, Yearbook staff, and the Varsity Track Team.

Opelousas Senior High School provided her the opportunity to continue to pursue excellence and give back tothe community.  She served on the Mayor's Youth Council of Opelousas and volunteers in the nursery at OUr Savior's Church.

Ms. Cains' outstanding academic accolades include having a 3.9 GPA.  She took Advanced Placement Coursework in Latin, English, Biology, and U.S. History.

Ms. Cains' athletic accomplishments include being a four-year State Champion Hurdler for Class 2A.  Ivy  was also a member of the 400 Meters Relay Team. 

Opelousas Senior High Principal Rodney Johnson speaks highly of Ms. Cain stating that she has been an asset to the school, the community, and will continue this positive attribute on the collegiate level as well, for she knows "quality is not an option, but is a standard."

Claiborne Sparks, Inc.'s scholarship purpose is to assist and enhance the post-secondary educational development of St. Landry Parish female student-athletes.  It recognizes that these students are a part of the future of the community.  The scholarship will allow them tofurther their education no matter their educational pursuit.

Claiborne Sparks, Inc. wishes Ms. Cains continued success and the fulfillment of her academic and athletic pursuits at the University of New Orleans.

Claiborne Sparks, Inc. is pleased and proud to announce that Ms. Helena Tibbs is a 2017 scholarship recipient.

Helena is the daughter of Melanie Durio and Elliot Tibbs.

Helena will be graduating from Beau Chene High School with a GPA of 3.83.  Sheplans on attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette on a full track scholarship.  She will major in biology.

Helena has maintained a 3.5 or more GPA her entire high school career and has received the Beau Chene High School 4.0 award.

She was selected to the 1st Team All Parish Basketball Team in 2014, 2015, and 2016.  She as also selected t othe 1st Team All District 4-4A for 2014, 2015, and 2016. 

She was the St. Landry Parish champion in the long jump and triple jump for 2014, 2015, and 2016.  She was also the St. Landry Parish Outstanding Female Field District champion in the Triple Jump for 2014, 2015,  and 2016. She was also the class 4-4A Outstanding State Qualifier for the long jump and the triple jump in 2014, 2015, and 2016.  She placed third in the state in 2015 for the long jump.  She was also the Class 4A State Champion in the triple jump in 2016 and set a new personal and school record with a jump of 38'4".

Claiborne Sparks is pleased to announce that Ms. Hillary May is a recipient of one of three scholarships offered by its organization for 2015.

Ms. Hillary May, a graduate of Westminster Christian Academy, under the leadership and guidance of Principal Myra Baker, is our first recipient.

Ms. May graduates with a 3.55 GPA and plans on attending the University of Louisiana at Monroe and seeks a degree in biolory.  She will then pursue her Masters in Dentistry from LSU and plans on becoming an orthodontist.

Ms. May's student involvementincludes serving on the Student Council as Vice-President, and ofrmerly as a class vice-president, and a class secretary throughout her years at Westminster Christian Academy.  Other student activities were Crusaders for Life, the Lafayette Junior Leadership, Rotary Interact, the Mission Team, and the Youth Leadership Council.

Ms. May's athletic life at Westminster included volleyball, softball, and track.

She is the daughter of Dequietter Anderson and Rodney May.

Claiborne Sparks continue to give back to the community!  It's second recipient of one of three scholarships in 2015 is Ms. Julia Lacarde.

Ms. Larcarde will be graduating from Opelousas Catholic where Mr. Perry Fontenot serves as principal.

Ms. Larcarde is a member of the National Honors Society and the Beta Club.  She holds a 3.89 GPA and plans on attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.  She will be pursuing a degree in business.

Ms. Larcarde, as a basketball player, is a former All Honorable, 2nd Team All District, and 2nd Team All Parish member.  Her track accolades include being a Regionals Qualifier in the High Jump as well as a Regionals Qualifier in the 4x2 and the 4x4.  She also serves on the Pep Squad at Opelousas Catholic.

She is the daughter of Donnie and Haley Larcade.

Ms. Mariah Nero will be graduating from Beau Chene High School where Mr. Keith James serves as Principal.

Mariah is a former Claiborne Sparks AAU basketball player.  She has played high school basketball for four years under Coach Melanie Durio.

She was a member of the FFA, Spanish Club, Peer Leaders, FCCLA, and Talent Search.

Mariah has a 3.4 GPA, and will be attending McNeese State University, where she plans to major in Criminal Justice.

She is the daughter of Benny, Sr. and Gloria Nero.

Maya Malbreaux, a former Claiborne Sparks basketball player, is the first recipient for the 2014 Claiborne Sparks, Inc. Scholarship.

We are extremely proud of the accomplishments and achievements of Maya!  Maya is a student at Beau Chene High School under the tutelege of Principal Keith James.  She has participated in girls basketball, cheerleading and track.

She has a GPA of 3.7 and plans on attending the University of Louisiana at Lafayette and majoring in Pre-Pharmacy.

Maya is a leader and has served as captain of the basketball team, co-captain of the cheerleading team and the secretary of the French club.  Maya is also a member of the FCCLA, FFA,  BC Prays Too, Peer-leaders, Beta Club, Honors Society, Talent Search and Upward Bound program.  

Maya is the daughter of Irma Savoie-Malbreaux and Gerald Malbreaux, Sr.

Claiborne Sparks, Inc. President Jarvis Claiborne, Vice President Charlesetta Lavergne and Secretary Nathan Kimble, wish Maya the best in her future endeavors. 


Demi Lyons, A 2014 Claiborne Sparks, Inc. Scholarship Recipient

Congrats to Demi on being named a scholarship recipient.  Demi is a student at Westminster Christian Academy under the leadership and guidance of Principal Myra Baker.

Demi exemplifies excellence, dedication and honor.  She has a GPA of 3.92 and is a 2014 Wendy's High School Heisman Scholar Athlete, a member of the National Honors Society and a Lafayette Junior Leadership member of the Leadership Institute of Acadiana.  

Demi plans on attending LSU and majoring in Pre-Med and aspires to be a pediatrician.

She has taken numerous honors and AP courses at WCA.  Demi is also a four-year participant at the Literary Rally representing her school in Spanish, Biology and World History.

Demi participated in cheerleading and cross country at WCA and was named the 2014 Most Improved Runner.

Demi is the daughter of Rock and Tenita Lyons of Breaux Bridge, Louisiana.

Armanni Blake Bennett, A 2014 Sparks Scholarship Recipient

Congratulations to Armanni Blake Bennett!

Armanni is an exceptional young lady and is a student at Opelousas Senior High School under the leadership of Principal Rodney Johnson.

Armanni has been a member of the track team for the last four years and has won numerous track meets in the 100 meter hurdles and 300 meter hurdles.  She is a two-time St. Landry Parish Champion in the 100 meter hurdles and is the current two-time 4A District Champion in the 100 meter hurdles.   She has additionally served as a majorette for four years in the Opelousas Tiger Band. 

Armanni is also the reigning Homecoming Queen for Opelousas Senior High. 

Armani has a GPA of 3.9 and plans on attending the University of Louisiana at Monroe and major in Pharmacy.  She is a member of the National Honors Society and has taken many AP courses.  She has served as a volunteer with the Holy Ghost Church Bazaar and has also volunteered for the Relay for Life Charity.  

Armanni is the daughter of Angelia Bennett and Patrick Bennett of Opelousas, Louisiana.

The Claiborne Sparks, Inc. takes great pride in awarding Armanni one of its three scholarships for St. Landry Parish high school students.

Breanna Lavine Receives Claiborne Sparks, Inc. 2013 Scholarship!

Claiborne Sparks, Inc. is proud to announce that Breanna Lavine is one of three of its 2013 scholarship recipients.

Breanna is a graduating student with a 4.0 GPA from Northwest High School.  She plans to major in biology/premed at Xavier University in New Orleans.

She is the daughter of  Sabrina Andrus and Goldman Lavine.

Breanna is an honor roll student and a recipient of the St. Landry Parish Chamber of Commerce Corporate Award.  She is also a St. Landry Parish Student of the Year Nominee; a member of the Honors English Club,  Foreign Language Club, Math Club, Social Studies Club, Drama Club,  and Future Teachers of America Club.

Breanna is also a member of the Northwest Girls Basketball Team, the Track Team and a member of the Cheerleading Squad.  She was named MVP for this year's 5-3A District girls basketball squad.  She has also been a member of the 1st District Team in girls basketball for District 5-3A and an All-Star member.  In track, she was district champ for the high jump. 

We wish Breanna nothing but the best for her future!

Chelsey Fontenot, a Claiborne Sparks, Inc. 2013 Scholarship Recipient

Ms. Chelsey Fontenot, is a student at North Central High School.  Chelsey is ranked #1 in her graduating class and is Valedictorian.  Ms. Fontenot plans to attend LSU in New Orleans and major in Kinesiology and after receiving her degree, will apply to become a medical doctor.  We have no doubt that Chelsey will accomplish this ambitious endeavor and we are pleased to play a small part in it. 

Chelsey is the daughter of Erick and Johnnie Fontenot of LeBeau, LA. 

Chelsey is also a recipient of the Tulane University Award for Outstanding Academic and Community Service; a Youth Leadership Member of the St. Landry Parish Chamber of Commerce; a St. Landry Parish Student of the Year Nominee; a student council member; Student of the Year at North Central High School;  Class President; Captain of the Basketball team; Captain of the Cross Country and Track Team; Career Pathway Participant; and a 4-H Club member. 

Chelsey was the regional champion in the 800 meters for this past school term; placed third in the 800 meter at state; was a three-time district champion in the long jump; and a member of the district champion girls basketball team for 2012-2013 and a Top 28 participant.

Katherine Bouchereau, a 2013 Claiborne Spark Scholarship Recipient

The Claiborne Sparks, Inc. is proud to announce that Katherine Bouchereau is a recipient of one of its three 2013 scholarships.

Katherine is a graduating student from Port Barre High School.  She plans to major in Nursing at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette.

She is the daughter of Forest and Jerry Bouchereau of Washington, LA.

Katherine has shown herself to be a virtue of community service in the area by spear heading the "Walk for a Cause" for a fellow citizen in Port Barre.  She has also dedicated herself to helping and giving to the Port Barre Public Library through selfless hours of organizing and assembling children's books.  Katherine is known as a responsible young lady who puts forth and contributes in a positive way whenever an opportunity presents itself to help those in need. 

She is a member of the National Honors Society, Beta Club, Sisters with a Vision Service Club; FCCLA and the Chosen Club.

Katherine is an honor roll student and is a member of the track team and qualified for this year's regional track meet in the 1500 meters.  She is also a member of the Port Barre High School Swim Team.

Katherine says that sports taught her to give her all in everything, which she also intends to do in pursuing her college degree.

2012 Sparks Scholarship Winners Announced!

Claiborne Sparks, Inc. announces the recipients of its 2012 scholarships for female student-athletes in St. Landry Parish.

We are proud to announce that Ms. Erin Barbour and Chelsea Savoie are the recipients of the 2012 scholarships offered by our organization.

 Ms. Erin Barbour graduates from Opelousas Senior High School with a 4.026 GPA.  Ms. Barbour, also the Opelousas Senior High School Student of the Year, will be attending Baylor University in the fall.  She will pursue a degree in athletic training.  Ms. Barbour participated in softball and volleyball athletics at Opelousas Senior High School.

Ms. Chelsea Savoie graduates from Port Barre High School with a 3.85 GPA.  Ms. Savoie will be attending Louisiana State University at Eunice in the fall where she will pursue certification as an X-ray technician.  Ms. Savoie, a 2012 LHSAA All Academic Athletic Team Member, participated in girls basketball at Port Barre High School.

The 9th Grade Claiborne Sparks Girls Basketball Team is headed to Primetime Sportz National Tournament July 23-27, 2014.
