Playoff Format
2003 Playoff Format updated 8/17/2007
The Divisional Director reserves the right to modify these rules based on the number of teams registered and time constraints. Rule changes must be published to all teams prior to the end of the season.
Playoff rules for 50/70 may different, please see Divisional Director for updated rules.
1) Any and all decisions made by the CJBL are final.
2) The top four teams in each age conference will make the playoffs for a single elimination tournament. The winners of the two first round games will play for the championship. When there are three divisions, fourth team will be the hightest point team will be the wildcard.
3) Teams will be selected for the playoffs using a point system based upon the regular season record, as follows:
a) 4 points for a win.
b) 1 point for a loss.
c) 2 points for an unresolved tie.
e) 0 points for a no play game.
4) The goal is to play all the games. A loss is worth one point because we want to encourage teams to play. Yes, 10-1 (41 points) is considered better than 10-0 (40 points) for playoff purposes.
The goal is to play all the games. Any team that does not play at least 8 out of its 10 scheduled games, does not qualify for post-season play. Yes, a 7-0 team will not make the playoffs even though it has 28 points, unless less than four teams play at least ten games.
5) Tie breakers for teams with the same total points:
a) Head to head record.
b) Head to head runs allowed.
c) Runs allowed
d) Common opponents runs allowed.
e) Coin toss.
6) All regular season rules will be in effect, except that there will be:
A) No mercy rule in effect.
B) No tie games.
C) No balk warnings (exception 9U,10U,11U).
7) Winning team managers must call in or e-mail game results to the Divisional Director immediately following the game.
8) If it is determined that a team has tried in good faith to make up their game(s), and another team is preventing them from doing so, the Divisional Director and League Commissioner may intercede. If it is determined their is evidence, a forfeit may be called. This is only in the case of an rare issue. The forfeit team will receive no points for a loss.
