Thursday, May 22 2008-2009 SKI SEASON The high school cross-country ski season begins Monday, November 3. If you're serious about skiing this winter, then you should be training over the summer and early fall. Running, hiking, biking, along with ab, back, and arm exercises will make you a stronger faster skier in December when the race season begins. If you want more information on summer workouts contact your coaches. Thanks and have a great summer. Sunday, February 24 Many Thanks! A 60-member ski team cannot run smoothly with just three coaches. We want to take this opportunity at the end of a successful season to pass on our gratitude to those have helped us over the past four months. Thanks to the parents who support their children on and off the ski trails, who help with the spaghetti feeds, cheer on our skiers, and provide positive parenting for these student athletes. In particular, a big thank you to Lauren Bradley and Tina McPhetres for their coordination of the ski team booster club activities--their time is greatly appreciated. Thanks to the CHS administrative support from Rick Volk, Nancy Brain, Paul Brauneis, and Joyce Huffer. And last but not least, thank you to Ben Powell and NSAA for their trail grooming, to John Rhodda and Eagle River Park & Recreation who manage the ski trails, and to the Eagle River Nordic Ski Club and their faithful support of ski races this season.
See you next fall. Saturday, February 23 State Championships, Day 3 Relay Results Wow, what a fantastic three days of racing for our CHS skiers. Friday, February 8 A BIG THANK YOU As many of you know, the Besh Cup races originally scheduled for Fairbanks were moved to our Beach Lake ski trails this weekend. And the rescheduling of these races meant the East High Relays had to be moved to this past Wednesday. The two days of Besh Cup races require a tremendous amount of planning and work, because the races serve as two of six qualifying races for March's Junior Olympics in Anchorage, and Arctic Winter Games in Yellowknife. Over the past two days the CHS coaches have asked our team to not only complete their daily workout (because we do have Regions next Friday and Saturday), but to also help prepare for the Besh Cup races. EVERY ONE of of our skiers have stepped up and helped out with many tasks from shoveling snow, to marking race courses, to laying tarps in the school (and more). There was no complaining, but an attitude from each CHS ski team member to help do whatever it took to prepare for the races. The CHS coaching staff want to extend our thanks for the help you, our skiers, have given us this week. And thanks to their parents who support our team and their children. Thursday, February 7 EAST HIGH RELAYS RESULTS Great races CHS skiers, and once again your support and sportsmanship was the best. Thanks to all of our race volunteers. Handout: 2007-2008 ASD X-C Race Schedule Saturday, February 2 BOOSTER CLUB INFORMATION *********Booster Club News************** The East High Relay Race has been rescheduled for Wednesday February 6th. East Classic Relay changed to February 6th. Here's the revised East Classic format: What: East Mixed Relay Classic Girl-Boy-Boy-Girl 4x3k When: Wednesday, February 6, 2008 Where: Russian Jack Golf Course Start: 3:00 PM at the Russian Jack Golf Course We will not be having spaghetti feed before the race. The short notice of the rescheduling makes the organizing of the feed too difficult. There is also a Middle School Race at Mirror Lake Middle School on Thursday and having another major activity mid week is more then most of our schedules can handle. Please consider having spaghetti or some other pasta dish with your family Tuesday evening. Our Next Feed will be on Thursday, February 14, in the ski room. This will be the spaghetti feed before Regions. For most of our skiers, Regions is the last ski race of the season. After Regions, 6 varsity boys and 6 varsity girls as well as one alternate for each team will compete at the Alaska State Championships at Kincaid Park on February 21, 22, and 23. Thanks, Lauren Bradley
