Rempel Traded to Roughriders
CHS grad Jordan Rempel is now the first Cougar to be a part of the Saskatchewan Roughriders! After an outstanding four years with the Cougars playing both offensive and defensive lines, Rempel played for the U of S Huskies, where he won the award for the top offensive lineman in Canada West, participated in the East West Shrine game in Texas, and was drafted early in the second round of the 2007 CFL draft by the Hamilton Tiger Cats.
In his rookie season in Hamilton in 2008, Rempel suited up for 11 games with the Tiger Cats. The trade that brought him home was a complicated deal involving Hamilton, Saskatchewan, Winnipeg and Edmonton. Numerous CFL players, prospects and future draft picks were also involved in the deal.
As a 'Rider, he will join Jason Clermont, Gene Makowski, Neil Hughes, Stu Ford, Scott Schultz, Joe McGrath and Mike Stadnyk as players who played their high school football in Saskatchewan and have the opportunity to play for their home-province team. Welcome Home Jordan!

Coach Hall Leaving Cougars and CHS
After 17 years, Coach Ryan Hall is moving on from CHS. Coach Hall has been with the Cougars for his whole 17 year teaching career, spending 14 years as head coach of the Cougars. He has accepted a teaching position at Campbell Collegiate in Regina and will also help out with the Tartan football program.
"Over the last 17 years, I have had the chance to work with some great men and friends on the coaching staff, and have thoroughly enjoyed the opportunity to influence the lives of so many great guys who played for the Cougars. I know I made a lot of mistakes along the way, but I am amazed at how gracious my players have been as they describe the many positive memories they have of Cougar Football, and some of the ways they became the fine men they are now in part because of their experience with the Cougars. I am excited about this new chapter in my life and career, but will miss the Football Room, the navy and gold, and the great kids that come out to play football each fall. I wish Coach Guenter and the rest of the staff all the best as they carry on the program, and hope the players will continue to love playing football and have many positive and life-changing experiences and lessons. I will always be a Cougar!"

Davies Earms Spot on South Squad
Congratulations to grade 12 Cougar Laramie Davies who was recently selected as a member of the South team for this year's Senior Bowl all star game. The Cougar QB moved to defensive back for the Senior Bowl tryouts, and impressed the coaches with his athletic ability, football skills and leadership. Due to recent shoulder surgery, Laramie will not be able to participate in the Senior Bowl game in May, but Football Saskatchewan will have him on the team roster, and he should be ready to participate in tryouts for Team Saskatchewan in June. Laramie is also participating in tryout camps with the U of R Rams and Saskatoon Hilltops this spring.

Cougars Settle for Silver
The Cougars' great season came to a disappointing end on Saturday afternoon as they lost in the provincial championship game to the Foam Lake Panthers 43-22.
Amazingly, the score was 1-0 for the Cougars after the first half. The Caronport defence made several key stops, and the offence moved the ball well through the air, but missed several opportunities to put points on the board, earning only a punt single. The second half was totally different, as The Cougar defence couldn't stop Foam Lake's excellent running attack, and the offence couldn't keep up with Foam Lake's production. Still, when they got the ball, the Cougars continued to make some big plays in the air and scored three touchdowns. Trailing by several touchdowns, the Cougars were forced to attempt several short kickoffs and third down gambles, most of which ended up giving the Panthers good field position. Full credit goes to the Panthers, who had an excellent team that had a fine regular season, and an impressive playoff run that concluded with two road victories.
Thanks to all of the fans who attended today's game and supported the team throughout the season!

CHS Athletes of the Month
Congratulations to two fourth year Cougars who were honoured for their outstanding performance for the team in September: defensive back Dawson Switzer and running back Michael Gilbertson.
Dawson had a month of big plays for the defence, with interceptions, forced fumbles and tackles for losses, playing with aggression and confidence. Michael was a big player on offence, being among team leaders in scoring and total yards, and getting every ounce out of his diminutive stature.
Way to go, Daws and Mike!

Team Saskatchewan Settles for Silver at Football Canada Cup
On July 15th, Team Saskatchewan lost the championship game at the Football Canada Cup in Winnipeg to a very strong team from Quebec. Click the headline to access the Football Canada Cup web site.
To advance to the final, Team Sask defeated Team Alberta, the silver medal winning team for the last two FCCs. It was a slow start for Saskatchewan, but they shut down Alberta in the second half and scored 13 unanswered points to win 13-10. Meanwhile, Team Quebec had an easy time defeating Team Ontario, and because there were only two Eastern teams, they got a bye onto the championship final.
In the Western final, Team Sask took on last year's gold medal winning team, Team Manitoba. It was a gruelling game played on very old, hard artificial turf in temperatures nearing 40 degrees. Team Sask had already lost several players to injury and illness, while Team Manitoba had a bye into the Western final. Again, Team Sask had to come back from a second half deficit, this time with an inordinate number of injuries. With time running out, they tied the game and then made a key interception to force the game into overtime. After stopping Team Manitoba on their first overtime possession, Team Sask moved the ball for two first downs and then punted for a single point victory.
With a greatly depleted roster, Team Sask was no match for a very fast, talented and aggressive Quebec team. Team Sask could not get any consistent offence generated, and hurt themselves with penalties that negated some big plays. Meanwhile, Team Quebec was able to break the containment of the Team Sask D on the run, as well as running effectively between the tackles. Quebec took the gold with a 26-2 win.
Congratulations to Coach Hall, who caoched defensive backs and special teams, as well as doing Life Talks (chapels) with the team before each game.

Just for laughs...
A guy took his blonde girl friend to her first football game. They had great seats right behind their team's bench.
After the game, he asked her how she liked the experience.
"Oh, I really liked it," she replied," especially the cute guys with all the big muscles; but I just couldn't understand why they were killing each other over 25 cents."
Dumbfounded, her date asked, "What do you mean?"
"Well, I saw them flip a coin and one team got it and then for the rest of the game, all they kept screaming was:
'Get the quarterback! Get the quarterback!'
Helloooo? It's only 25 cents!"
