CHS IN STATE CHAMPIONSHIP AGAIN!!!

For the 3RD time in the last 8 years,the Catoctin Baseball program is back to the STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.

This time, the Cougars won the 1A West Region with wins over Mountain Ridge, Brunswick, Northern Garrett(#1 seed), and then against a very talented Clear Spring team(#2 seed).

In the state semi-finals Catoctin beat NewTown.

Catoctin will play the Bohemia Manor Saturday May 23, at Ripken Stadium for the state title.

Albright Honored at Camden Yards

Justin Albright was honored as a consensus 1st team All State pre-season pick. Justin was among 30 ball players chosen from over 200 Maryland public and private high schools and was honored at a banquet at Camden Yards. Caoch Franklin said, "I am so proud of Justin. He is the everything a player should be. He's a gentleman and a scholar. A man of honor, integrity, and he has a tremendous work ethic." Congratulations Justin, you earned it!

Honors Come in For Cougars

The Cougars have earned team honors and now some individual honors are coming in.

JUSTIN ALBRIGHT:   has been named to the "ELITE GAME" at Hagerstown Suns Stadium on Sunday May 31 at 4 P.M.

- Justin was also selected to the MSABC State regional team which plays Sunday at Thomas Stone High School on May 24th.

- Justin was also selected to the All-MVAL team and 1st team All-Frederick News post.

LANDON ROUTZAHN:  was selected as a 1st team ALL-MVAL pick as an infielder.

- was named 1st team All-Area Frederick News Post. 

R.J. SMITH:  was a 2nd Team selection as a pitcher to the ALL-MVAL team.

- was named 1st team All-Area Frederick-News Post

AUSTIN CARTER:  was a 2nd Team All-MVAL selection as an outfielder.

ZACK  KREITZ:  was named an Honorable mention All-MVAL pick as an outfielder.

Albright Signs with G.W.

Justin Albright has signed a Division I baseball scholarship to George Washington University. Justin is a 4-year Varsity starter for the Cougars, earning All-Conference and All-Area honors multiple times. Justin was selected by the Maryland State Association of Baseball Coaches as one of the top 30 players in Maryland. Justin ranks among the top in his class academically and plans on majoring in engineering.

THE CHS COACHING STAFF

Mike Franklin (10th year) -  Head Coach Mike Franklin has taken the Cougars to a championship level, winning 4 Regional Championships in the past 7 years, 2 League titles, the first County Championship and 2 trips to the State Title game (all firsts). He was named "Coach of The Year" in 2002 (Frederick Post), 2003 (MVAL), and 2004 (Frederick Post), named to coach the State All-Star game at Camden Yards (2004) and the western MD All-Star game at Hagerstown Suns stadium(2007). Before arriving at CHS, Mike was an assistant for 1 year at Frederck high and before that coached at Salisbury University winning Regional Championships at both. As a player at local Linganore High, Mike won a CMC and Regional championship in baseball as well as State titles in football and power-lifting. Mike then attended FCC and Salisbury where he was a division I All-Junior college selection. Coach Franklin studied under the Ripken family for many years and has done clinics for the Baltimore Orioles youth camps and helped coach the Mid-Atlantic Red Sox where many players have been drafted. 

Les Fisher (10th year) - Coach Fisher has been at Catoctin through all of Franklin's tenure. Fisher, a former standout at CHS, has been instrumental in the success of our program. Coach Fisher was named as the AFLAC National Assistant Coach of The Year in 2003 and was the 3rd base coach for the western MD All-Star game. Les handles the infielders for the Cougars and is the master of pitching batting practice.

Phil Caruso (7th year) - How's this for experience? Coach Caruso has had success as the Head Coach at Frostburg State, Garrett, and Frederick Community Colleges. Phil has left each of those programs at a championship level. Phil has the highest winning percentage as a coach in Frostburg University history! He is a master motivator and runs the "Diamonds in the Rough" summer Camp. Phil will be coaching the Thurmont Legion team this summer.

B.J. Schildt (2nd year) - B.J. played at CHS under Coach Franklin and graduated in 2000. He was a standout catcher his senior year. He brings enthusiasm to this program. B.J. is the Head JV coach and catchers coach.

 Wayne Kerns (2nd year) - Coach Kerns is our assistant JV coach. Wayne also serves as our program's outfield coach  and jv hitting coach. Wayne also played for Coach Franklin and graduated in 2000.

Calvin Lewis(1st year) - Calvin joins the cougars this year and will assist in handling the JV pitchers. Calvin also played for Coach Frankin and won 2 regional championships while at CHS. Calvin played at Frostburg State and Hagerstown Community colleges.

The Cougars are looking for materials or donations to improve their facility. If you would like to help, contact Coach Franklin.  Items include:   A new portable backstop($4,000), A Halo(turf around home plate),  Mesh windscreen for fence along 1B side.($800), A new batting cage net($1000), A pitching machine for bunting drills, and ball field mix(dirt) for bull pens. Your help in greatly appreciated by us all!

COUGARS WIN ROBBIE SEIDEL TOURNAMENT

After a shaky first game, the Cougars came back and won the Seidel Trophy where it will sit in the school's trophy case until they have to defend it next year. The Cougars beat a good Walkersville team 15-5. Congratulations to the Catoctin Baseball Program.
