Thursday, September 18 Attention! Problems Still Abound! September 18, 2008: It seems as if our approach to league style baseball is working! Other leagues are beginning to think and do the same thing. We all want some sort of structure, but we are tired of the same old policies and procedures handed down from youth baseball management that has lost touch with the current state of youth baseball. Although, we are not a part of a national organization, CHYB continues to function well and provide the necessary elements of baseball for kids. Using the Unders Age format allows parents flexibility as well as coaches to develop players and have fun in doing so. Providing both recreational and semi-comp baseball formats for players and teams that are not the caliber of tournament style comp teams, helps keep balance. By providing a competitive aged division, it also affords our league an opportunity to grow while providing good baseball to those teams that are looking for a little more. July 2008: Another year has come and gone and yet it seems to be just a little different from the rest ... yes, we have moved away from a nationally recognized baseball organization and yes, we have continued to provide both recreational baseball and all-stars, but it never seems to fail ... there are always others out there that think they can do it better. So be it! Bring on! Do your best ... start your own thing ... do it for yourself. CHYB is moving in the right direction ... no politics, no agendas, no personal achievements, just plain old kids baseball. Be it rec., semi-comp or comp ball, it's all right here. If you want to move to an organization that is affiliated with either Little League, Babe Ruth or Pony, go for it. Those leagues will do you well. We are providing a network of opportunities for players and teams to continue to grow, but without someone watching their every move. All we ask is that you respect the league and what it is trying to accomplish ... don't undermine the decisions, be a part of a very good experience, and lastly, keep it for the kids. Once you make it an adult league, then the kids are the ones that get hurt. If you value your contribution, then leave the discussions to the appropriate people, don't take upon yourself to try and restructure the world or make it better for your piece of the pie. Look at the whole thing! One slice does not make it whole!!! CHYB will continue to grow with or without you ... there is no higher authority to run to when you don't get your way ... step up and make this league better and more fun as well as advancing your children in the great game of baseball. As the Aussies said as they left, this is for the good of baseball and kids! No one else!!! June 2008: And again, we have been confronted with complaints from ex-board members, concerned parents and players, and coaches regarding problems associated with OTHER leagues! Many have taken the time to call us, send us e-mails, come to Westwood Park and speak to many of us directly, many have ventured over to Robert Frost to watch what we do and to ask many valid questions; we've had many discussions while in the middle of spring and summer league games from others who come to watch their kids play at CHYB facilities. Each with their own problems and concerns and each asking what they can do to fix their problems and/or whatever alternatives that they may have. Well if this sounds like you and your situation, then we are your alternative!
Here are some of the problems that we've have heard: no published board meetings, no open forum for discussion, no communication, no established bylaws, rule changes on the fly, trades made without parent or player consultations, questions posed but no answers, refunds requested but none given, all-stars teams that have walked off the field during a contest, all-star teams that didn't even show up to the tournament, board members who resigned due to pressure from others, no election process, etc., etc., etc.. This has been very disturbing and we would like to extend our hand toward you all and let you know that you can have your say and make a difference too. Now, we are not going blow smoke and tell you that the grass is always greener on this side of the fence either, but we will take the time to listen and give you your say! We are striving to make a difference while moving in a new direction -- recreational and tournament tiered baseball. CHYB would like to produce four tournaments in the '08 season and we want you all to be a HUGE part of this new production. We are looking for and accepting board members, teams, (yup, full teams), and individual players and coaches. If you see yourself as part of this new baseball process, contact us NOW! And for those that choose to not associate with our league, go on and and good luck in whatever you may do. Handout: Player(s) Registration Form Wednesday, June 4 New Look League - Tiering and Tournaments! Citrus Heights Youth Baseball has a new look ... we are affiliating with the CABA (Continental Amatuer Baseball Association), AABC (American Amateur Baseball Congress), USSSA, and SuperSeries. These affiliations will provide more opportunities for your kids to play. We don't abide by a boundary system and we will provide tiering levels of play ... recreational (tier 1), weekend competitive (tier 2) and full competition (tier 3). Each tier allows the player(s) differing levels of play. For those of you who like the recreation level, we have that. 'Johnny Jones' signs up and is selected to play on team. For those of you who want to play at a higher level, but still like the ease of rec ball, we provide the weekend comp. Where 'Johnny' is selected to play on Sundays with a team made up of better recreational players. For those of you who want their kid to play at the highest level all of the time, we provide the comp league. These are teams that are already established and who are concerned with weekend tournaments, but aren't getting the necessary baseball prior to those tourneys, so they play once or twice a week to hone their skills. CHYB is also the foremost leader in league based tournaments, and our vision is to provide for four new tournaments in '08. We will begin with our Spring Fling tournament during the Easter holiday, then our Memorial Day tournament, on to our AABC Pre-All Star Bash and finally to our end of Summer Blow-out. We had our first AABC tournament and it was well received - ages 8u through 14u.
