8U Division Overview

The 8U Rec. and Comp. Divisions are for boys and girls under the age 8 years old.

The 8U divisions are a continuation of the development of baseball fundamentals and putting them to use. These divisions play on the same sized field – 50-foot bases, 38-foot pitching distances, 6-inning games and 1 hour and 45 minute game time limits; Comp. may elect to play on a 60-foot diamond, with a 44-foot pitching distance. TeeBall bats can be used, but are not encouraged due to the thinness of the bat. The 8U Recreational and 8U Competitive division may field an “All-Star” team in the All-Star Tournament typically held in early July. All-Star team players are nominated by the division managers and approved by the All-Star Team Manager, Division President and Player Agent. A brief overview of each 8U division is described below:

8U Recreation Division (New for '08)

8U Rec. is for boys and girls aged 8 and under with both no previous baseball experience and experienced players who need to focus on more of the fundamentals. This division is “coach pitch /player pitch” from the beginning of the season and strict pitching rules apply. Pitching development is encouraged from the beginning of the season. There is no win/loss record for this division and ten players will play in the field at one time; there is a three-out/five run rule in effect for this division and no “official” score is kept. For specific Pinto division rules, please refer to the attached division rules with this handout. This division will field the All-Star Team. The three-out/five-run rule applies to this division. All of the established Pinto playing rules as described in the league’s by-laws.

8U Competitive Division (New for '08)

8U Comp. is for boys and girls aged 8 and under experienced players who want to achieve a higher goal within their focus on the fundamentals. This division is “player pitch” from the beginning of the season and strict pitching rules apply. Pitching development is encouraged from the beginning of the season. There is a win/loss record for this division and ten players will play in the field at one time; there is a three-out/five run rule in effect for this division and “official” score is kept. For specific 8U Comp. division rules, please refer to the attached division rules with this handout. This division may field an All-Star Team. The three-out/five-run rule applies to this division. All of the established 8U Comp.  playing rules as described in the league’s by-laws.
