Thoughts & prayers

Our staff and the entire club thoughts and prayers go out to our own Marcia Foss who will be undergoing surgery today 3/2/09.

Marcia was involved in a very severe auto accident Friday night.

Team 17 Black parents and players stand by her family with their support and love.

We will update the club as news reaches us. Marcia and her family have been with the club for many years.

Marcia's older sister Mary who was one of our kids ( Now At Elmhurst college) has been keeping Coach Stephanie updated.

This club has always been about family and will always remain so. In times like these as a family we will act together to help one of our own.

ABOUT RECRUITING

IN OUR REGION WE HAVE RULES ABOUT RECRUITING OTHER CLUBS PLAYERS. CLUBS ARE NOT ALLOWED TO APPROACH A PLAYER WHO PLAYED FOR ANOTHER CLUB LAST SEASON. A COACH, PARENT, OR ANYONE CONNECTED WITH A CLUB IS NOT ALLOWED TO DO SO.

IF YOU ARE APPROACHED OR HAVE RECEIVED PHONE CALLS FROM ANOTHER CLUB PLEASE CONTACT OUR STAFF. THIS COULD BE FROM AN OLDER CLUB OR NEW ONE THE RULE APPLIES TO BOTH. WE WILL TAKE IT TO THE REGION. IF ONE NEEDS TO DISREGUARD THE RULES, THEN YOU REALLY NEED TO THINK ABOUT WHO IS DOING THE CALLING.

EVERY ONCE IN A WHILE PEOPLE DECIDE NOT TO FOLLOW THE RULES. WE WILL NOT ENGAGE IN THESE PRACTICES. IF A PLAYER APPROACHES US AT OUR TRYOUT THEN WE CAN BY RULE TALK.  WE CAN NOT SUGGEST OR HINT TO THEM TO COME OUT FOR OUR CLUB IF THEY PLAYED SOMEWHERE ELSE LAST SEASON.

WE HOPE THIS CLEARS UP SOME QUESTIONS ASKED BY OUR PLAYERS RECENTLY.

New Information Minneapolis

MINNEAPOLIS INFORMATION BOTH WEEKS 144

 From the Northern Lights Staff:
We have received several emails questioning if coaches and players will
require tickets/wristbands to get in.

Yes, there will be special wristbands for coaches and players given to the
team at team check in.  The policy for determining how many wristbands are
given to a team is stated on our website and is:

"At team check in each team will be given wristbands for rostered players.
Unique rostered coaching staff, up to a maximum of 3 per team, will be
given wristbands. In addition we will give each team one more wristband to
use for a chaperone, or whoever they wish.

Players will need to wear/show their wristbands to gain entrance to the
court area.    Coaches and all other spectators should wear their
wristbands at all times in the court area to prevent the roving security
from questioning them."

We hope this clears up any confusion there may have been on this matter

 TICKETS FOR EVENT:

For this year's event admission is required for all spectators over the

the funny square ink splotch (actually a bar code) in the upper right part

Fund Raisers

Each season we will ask parnets to  offer ideas on fund raisers for your out of town trips. They are NOT mandatory but, do help with the expense of club. Our policy is what ever a player makes on the fund raiser is her money and not divided by team. I.E. your daughter makes $200.00 and some one else makes $25.00. Your daughter keeps her $200 raised. Then you can use that money for her trip

Please contact the staff with your ideas and if you'd be willing to help.

Chicago’s Finest VBC Special Event

The players of Chicago's Finest Volleyball Club played demo games for the Staff and Residents of the Howe Developmental Center on Saturday 3/17/07. About 100 staff and residents enjoyed the fast paced games and really got into the matches.
Our players gave to the community and while they were at it introduced many to the game of Volleyball.

Several of our players donated treats for all the Residents to enjoy while watching the games. Several of the Howe Staff wanted all of our players and their parents to know how wonderful they thought it was of our kids to give up a Saturday afternoon for their residents. Many of the staff were also really impressed with the skills our players showed and  how caring our kids were about the residents.

To each of our players and their parents who also came out to support this event a  Big Thank You from the Howe Center Residents

We will be posting pictures of today’s event on the web page shortly

GO BEARS!!!!!!! Here is a way to support a local soup kitchen and show pride in our hometown football team DA BEARS!!!!! -- without spending a dime. Below, there is a link to Campbell soup's 'click for your favorite team" food drive. Whichever team gets the most clicks gets cans of soup donated to the soup kitchen of their choice. Apparently, Campbell 's will donate the # of cans equal to the # of pounds the entire team weighs..that's a lot of soup! You can vote daily, and the competition ends December 15th - there's plenty of time for Chicago to move up and win this! http://www.chunky.com/clickforcans.aspx

Two Very Brave young Ladies
Two of our 17 Black players showed compassion & bravery when they both donated  a very good amount of their hair to kids that account of illness lost their own.  Katie Dooderman and Traci Beil both have compassion and showed true leadership by stepping up to help out when called.

The entire staff and your peers know that both of you have taught us all a lession in life......We're proud of you two !

By the way they both look super with the new Do's !

Rachel Johnson is one of those who gets things done and does care about humanity.  From 5/28/06 through6/3/06 Rachel worked with "Habitat for Humanity" Great work Rachel !

Leaders on & off the court
As a staff we know how smart our players are on and off the court. We feel our kids are super young people who will in their turn take leadership roles in whatever they choose to do. With that in mind we'd like to point out just a few our of kids from time to time who are well on their way... Mary Foss(17 Black) from Oak Forest high is number one in her class the number two in Mary's class is our own Lauran Nagle also from our 17 Black. Also number one in her class Brittany Montella at Minooka high School. Britt is our setter on 17 Black.

From our 18's several players have been contacted about scholarships on and off the court. We do know Erin Dolan(Marian Cath) will be at Notre Dame this fall. Pieasha Allen(Morgan Park) and Megan Simon(Marist Chicago) will be playing College volleyball this fall (more to come about their signings) Emily Sluis(Sandberg) will be at Marquette University. Lauren DeCeault(Providence Cath) may be in Montral Canada attending school. We will have more updates in the next couple of weeks Make sure to let the staff know of your daughters class rankings or other  important things we can let the rest of the club in on.

Our kids lead...others follow...

17 Black win in a runaway !
Our 17 Black team tore up the courts over the two day Spring Fling in Peoria. With a match record of 5-1 they got themselves ready for Indianapolis next week by winning the tournament. They took the time to also learn lesions on and off the court. Those lesions included  how to focus under trying conditionings. With little sleep Sunday morning they learned how to pace themselves and play as if nothing had happened. Coach John  is Very proud of them all.

Nice:  HARDWARE LADIES !

Tuesday, March 7
Hotel Safety.
After a long day in the gym last Saturday (3/4/06), 17 & 18 black settled into a good nights sleep. At about 4:45am Alarms sounding and there was total confusion, we all learned not to think, just react. Many guest of the hotel hearing the alarms called the front desk. They were told not to worry " False Alarm"

Thanks to one of our dads ( Mr Foss) who went down and checked things out. We did not get into deep trouble. The first floor hallway seemed to be filled with smoke. Mr Foss ran back up to the third floor and made sure we all got out of the building.

After everything was said and done. There was no fire, but the smoke was caused by several fire extinguishers being set off. The local fire department was more than a little upset with the hotel and so was I. They broke their own protocol. But the bigger issue is do not depend on someone else( hotel staff) Do what you know is right Get out of the building.

As for the 17 & 18's parents Your room was free Saturday night. If you did not get a refund call the hotel.

15 Black takes a 2nd place At Mikasa
Our 15 Black took the Sunday to finish up with a hard fought 2nd place finish. Nice job Girls.

18 & 14 Black roll
This weekend at power league our 18 Black team went on to a  4-2 match record and played very hard and very smart.  Mean while about eight miles away little sisters on 14 Black went on a tear ending their Sunday at the Mikasa open with a big tournament win. They had a perfect match record of 5-0. Nice job to both teams.

Super Sunday !
Not only is the super bowl being played today but we have two teams in action and doing well. Our 14 Black after two matches have a perfect 2-0 record and will advance up a bracket. Our 16 black at last report are waiting to play their first Gold Division match of the day at Central Zone up in crystal Lake. They had a great day yesterday advancing to gold today. Great job both teams and coaches... yes its starting to show...all the hard work by the coaches and players.

MARCH & APRIL UP
Yes Its true you can go into "HANDOUTS" and see the practice schedules for March & April. Remember there may be a few changes account of tournaments. But what we have up should give you a pretty good idea of things to come.

Underway !
As this first weekend of Tournaments ended we will take note that our 14 Black had a 2nd place finish. Older sisters from 15 black and 16 black both had  third place finishes. Nice job ladies.

17 black playing mostly 18 year old teams played very well the entire  two day weekend seeding tournament. They had a clean sweep of their pool on day two ( beating two 18 year old teams)  On day one they lost two heart breakers to two very good 18 year old teams.

17 Black stats will be given out at their next practice.

Over all a good start to the new season. Back to work in the gym this week.

15 & 16 Black tournament 1/20//06
Both Teams will play the morning pools at the New Great Lakes Center. Directions will be handed out at your next practice.

15 & 16 Black
Your times and location for Saturdays Tournament is now listed in "Site News"

Helpful Hints
Uniforms: Mark your gear, that includes all jerseys, Practice tees,  warm up pants, warm up tops.

What to bring in your gym bag: Always BOTH jerseys.....Gym Shoes... Extra shoe strings... A towel....Chemical ice pack.....Extra socks.......roll of tape...roll of pre wrap.........warm ups.........personal girl items......scrunci for the hair..........ipod or cd players........books to read........at least two pens.....extra club tee shirt to change into if very hot in building...

Make sure when given directions to sites you will play at... you take them home and give to the driver that will be driving you... Also let them know what time you coach wants you there dressed and on the court......... Not what time the match is suppose to start.

Most gyms do not allow food anymore so if you bring food you must eat it outside the gym in your car. On warm days thats fine on cold days that can be a problem.

Be early most gyms have limited parking so you do not want to get your car towed or park a mile away.

Lastly understand playing time is granted by earning it... NEVER just given... When you do get time on the court play without fear, make the most out of your chance to help your team... and have fun....Coaches will try and win every match. Winning is the only thing to strive for. They know what it takes to be a winner. YOU NEED TO EARN IT.

GREAT JOB !
As coaches we know todays TEAM BUILDING turned out to be a great day and  when we look back we'll remember some of the more lighter moments.... Here are just a few........

Best one liner............WHERES J.R. ( The Entire 17's)
Best Dressed.... The Christmas Tree...... Ashley Ryan
Best intro to the club..............Pie Allen
Best Use of paper plates......Coco
Best GAME...............ALL of THEM
Best Quick exit..........Stef Moylan...........she looked like a jet taking off........
Best Quote...........I really had fun ......several players........

To all players: We as coaches are proud of the fact we could... laugh... have fun... and still learn from each other...

We feel as a club you are ready for a great season ahead...AND WILL HAVE ONE

In Memory Of Tony Sarcinella
We are saddened by the passing of a very dear former parent. Mr Tony Sarcinella (42) who passed away suddenly last Thursday. Tony was the father of Kara one of our former players. He will always be remembered by all of us at the club as a wonderful dad and great person who always had a kind word for everyone he met. I still picture him and his larger than life smile when ever he entered a room.  Tony was playing in adult volleyball leagues on the south side. His volleyball peers and our volleyball community was well represented at the wake and mass held today 10/10/05. To his wonderful wife and daughters we here at the club morn with you and shall keep you in our prayers. In memory.

Coach John Resting well
After extensive shoulder surgery Coach John is resting well. Thanks for the prayers

Parent Meetings Held !

We would like to thank all those parents who attended both our parent sessions, and to all those that emailed in their ideas. With all the input from this large group we feel we do not need to hold any other sets of meetings. As time is growing short until the new season is upon us, the staff will be busy preparing for new format the club will be using this season. We will have in place all changes and or
suggestions adopted at the parent meetings.

Class Act
With each passing year we as a club have not only looked at the talent of the players we take at tryouts, but also we tend to see the background they come from. Our 18 Black team is a fine example of the kind of parents club volleyball needs. They show support win or lose, they care for all the players, they include every player in anything they do. When they cheer they cheer responsibly. You never hear them bad mouth a player or coach from another team. You never hear them talk of how their daughter is the " Star" or the "best" player on the team. When the 18's win they enjoy it, when they lose one they support them. To Our 18 Parents Thank You for teaching everyone around you how good parents can make a difference.

Thats 16 !
With our 13 Black finishing 3rd this weekend in their tournament .  Then  our 17 Black also going 3rd  in their tournament .  Then add in our 18 Black ending their day with a third place finish in their tournament then that is a total: Of 16 times we have had a  1st...... 2nd's.... or 3rd place finish......... as a club this season for our teams.  Can we make it 25 or so ?

Both 16 teams make a good showing out of state
A trip up  to chedderville for our 16 and under teams this weekend let both teams know they are doing well. 16 Black took home a third place finish with about half their team missing and playing in the semi finals with 6 players left, and most were playing out of position.  16 Red with half their team and a new setter took home a 5th place of 15 teams nice work ladies.

A word also to 15 Red......... great job... your going to keep getting better and better. nice win on Saturday in pool play and even better three matches against very good teams.. " The little things will get you where you want to go"

17 and counting !

A very good weekend
18 Black wins straight down open
going 6matches wins and 12-0 in games they made it look easy.

16 Black takes second......

16 Red Takes third......

15 Black takes 2nd......

Thats:25

17 Black win in a runaway !
When 17 Black took to the court this past weekend everyone could tell they were on a mission. The mission was simple..... win it.. and win it big. When the Mission was finished they left knowing, that the BEST team in the gym, had won it... Great job 17's . P.S. We understand updates were phoned into some of the parents who could not attend ! A Cell phone Can be a Very Good thing !

13 Black Tournament Schedule
13 and Under your Tournament Schedule for the season is now revised and will be passed out at your next practice

Volleyballs !
We have had some parents and players asking us to see if we could get volleyballs for the players personal use. One of our contacts does have some very high quality balls left for sale. They are MIKASA VQ 2000 balls in Cardinal and White
Your cost would figure out to about  $ 23.00 per ball. This includes shipping. They list in most sports books @ between 40 and 60 dollars. We will only order in a group of ten or more.So if we get ten or more request we will do this for you. The club makes nothing off these. We will have order forms at your practices
