Soccer Law Help for Coaches and Parents

A new web page has been added - "Mysteries Demystified", which deals with explanations of selected laws and procedures of soccer.  It's purpose is to help coaches and parents with some of the "trickier" soccer laws.  It's the last page listed in the left column of the website.

LEAGUE PHILOSOPHY

soccer0a.gif
Chico Youth Soccer League (CYSL) was founded in 1973 with 254 boys and girls participating. CYSL now offers a Spring and Fall Season and has over 2000 youth, ages   5-13, participating in the Spring and Fall programs. CYSL is for boys and girls in the U6 - 14&U age divisions.

CYSL'S policy is to encourage the RECREATIONAL and PARTICIPITORY aspects of the game. We recognize there will always be competition in any activity in which a score is kept, however, CYSL's first principle is that RECREATION and PARTICIPATION come first.

CYSL's motto is that "EVERYBODY PLAYS". There are no tryouts. Everyone who signs up, on time, makes the team. No player on a team is to sit out more than half of every game. Coaches are pledged to this policy and the Board of Directors will enforce it. Most important of all, the League encourages a spirit of unpressured and congenial good sportsmanship among players, coaches and parents. An excellent guide for parents put together in England can be found at http://www.thefa.com/Respectguide/ -- go to the links page and click on Respect Guide. Another great short clip can be also found on the links page under "Ray calls for Respect".

The Coaches Manual includes general information about the league in the form of questions most frequently asked, league rules, policies, procedures and our players code of conduct.

Want to become a Referee?

Chico Youth Soccer Leagues is looking for youth and adults who want to become referees. Referees must be at least 14 years old to apply, attend a 12 hour referee class, and purchase the required uniform and accessories. Referees are paid $8.00 per game.  For more information, contact Wes Hocking at 895-3518 (work) during the day or at 895-8187 in the evenings, or via email at whocking@sbcglobal.net.

Our next entry level referee class will be held on the following dates:  Monday and Wednesday, August 24 and 26 from 6:00 - 8:30 p.m. and Saturday, August 29 from 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.  Attendance at all three classes is necessary.  It will be held at Philadelphia Square, 55 Independence Circle, Suite 201 in Chico.  Click on the handouts tab to download a map to the location.  You should also download the Referee Information Form (link below), fill it out, and bring it with you to the class.

Team Assignment:

soccer0a.gif
All players are assigned by random draw. Due to the size of the league, special requests for a specific team, carpools, friends etc. are NOT allowed. Teams are required to have at least one practice per week and not more than two per week. Practice times and location are determined by the Coach according to space availablity.

PLAYERS WILL NOT BE TRANSFERRED TO ANOTHER TEAM DUE TO CONFLICT OVER PRACTICE TIMES OR LOCATION.

Coaches are NOT permitted to recruit players without league authorization. If a team is short players, the coach must call the league and reguest a player from the waiting list. The first child on the waiting list will go to the team that needs another player.
Under NO circumstances may an unregistered player participate in a game or practice.

Board of Directors

CYSL is run by a volunteer nine member Board of Directors, mostly parents like yourself who are interested in contributing to their own child's development as well as that of other children in the community. CYSL does not have an operating office. You may contact the league by calling 894-1088 and leaving a message, by emailing cysl@sbcglobal.net, or by Fax at 894-8889.

Thank you for supporting CYSL.
