GO GO Chi-Sox!!!

5/3/09 vs Padres: After a 2 week delay to the start of the season due to rain the Padres & ChiSox were ready to get back to playing some good ball & keeping the rivalry going from last year when they played some tight games with one actaully ending in a tie. They did not disappoint as this 09 opener ended in a 6-5 extra innings affair won by the Padres. As good teams do the Padres took advantage of some ChiSox errors resulting in 2 early runs in the 1st & again for another 2 runs in the 4th. The ChiSox also took advantage of a few couple of Padre errors, but the Padre defense put the clamps on when they had to. Throwing out a ChiSox runner at the plate in the 4th inning that would have gave them the lead. In the top of the 8th the Padres scored what ended up being the winning run on a questionable call at the plate. FINAL 6-5 PADRES!!!

5/4/09 vs Giants: Game 2 of the season was a back to back game vs the Giants. After losing the game vs the Padres the day before, the ChiSox suffered the same fate in losing the game due to defensive errors. The Giants put across a total of 9 runs but only one of them were earned, as new pitcher Kevin Collins Jr. pitched a stellar game goin the distance while striking out 10. The ChiSox couldnt get much goin at the plate due to some good pitching & defense by the Giants. It's early in the season so no need for panic as the ChiSox bats will get nsync & the defense will tighten up as the season goes along. FINAL 9-4 GIANTS!!!

5/17/09 vs Hammers: After yet another rainout which makes 5 this year, the ChiSox came out sluggish once again at the plate only getting 4 hits which came in the last 3 innings. The only threat the Sox had was in the last inning when they had the bases loaded, but didnt get anything out of it. FINAL 5-0, HAMMERS!!!

5/30/09 @ Padres: Just as in the past couple of times these 2 teams have faced each other, it was a tight one. The ChiSox jumped on the board in the top of the 1st with 2 runs, but were quickly answered by the Padres as they put across 7 runs in the bottom of the inning all unearned as the inning started off with a E5. As always the Padres showed good plate disipline as the ChiSox sent 3 pitchers to the mound because of walks. The ChiSox didnt give up once they made it out of what seemed a hour long 1st inning, they got right back into the game cutting the Padres lead to 7-6. Relievers Dave Fields & Joey Ellison kept the Sox in the game only giving up a run a piece, with Joey also leading off the top of the 6th with a triple trying to get the Sox back in it but they fell a bit short in a game that was stopped after 6innings because of time. All in all the ChiSox ended up sending 4 pitchers to the mound and came up on the short end of a 9-7 loss. FINAL, 9-7 PADRES!!!

5/31/09 @ Giants: On ESPN Sunday Night Baseball the Giants & ChiSox took the field with the Sox dropping their first 4 games of the season & looking for a win vs a good Giants team. Joey Ellison took the mound for the Sox (who also thru 2 innings the day before). The Sox put up a run in the 1st & were quickly answered by the Giants who put across 2 runs in the bottom of the inning. After that is was pretty much pitching & defense on both sides. The Sox tied it up at 2 in the 5th inning, then the Giants scratched out 2 runs in the bottom of the 6th to get the win. Defensive highlight of the game came in the bottom of the 4th inning with 1 out & the bases loaded. Flyball was hit to ChiSox RF Brian Johnson & the Giants coaches decided to test his arm on a tag up play to score the run from 3rd but #53 Murphy was gunned down at the plate. FINAL, 4-2 GIANTS!!!

6/7/09 @ Black Sox: After having their previous 2 games rained out both teams were to do battle. It showed as the game remained scoreless until the last inning due to good pitching & defense by both teams. The Black Sox took advantage of a leadoff walk in the top of the 7th followed by back to back singles that scored the only run they needed. 3 un-earned runs follwed that. FINAL, 4-0 BLACK SOX!!!

6/10/09 @ Rhinos: This one started off on the wrong foot when ChiSox starting pitcher Joey Ellison hit the 1st batter, which was a preview of things to to come as he didnt have his stuff & ended up having to leave the game after hitting 2 more Rhinos later in the inning. The Rhinos scored 3 un-eared runs due to a error in that inning & another 4 in the 2nd inning as the ChiSox bats remained in hibernation. Behind the strong pitching of Nick Pistello playing his 2nd game of the year the Sox caught fire at the plate & came back from a 11-2 hole to pull within 1 with the bases loaded and 2outs in the top of the 7th. The Sox came up short but showed something they havent had in the 1st 6 games...FIRE!! Good 1st game behind the dish for rookie Karl Wehlus. FINAL, 11-10 RHINOS!!!

6/14/09 @ Hammers: Well nothing goin for the ChiSox as they get shutout again by the Hammers. Karl Wehlus made his 2nd start & was shakey walking 4 of the 6 batters he faced in the 1st inning giving up 2 runs before Dave Fields came in for relief. The Sox only managed 2 hits as the bats fell asleep again giving them their 8th loss in a row to start the season. FINAL, 9-0 HAMMERS!!!

5/18/09 vs Rhinos: On ESPN Thursday Night baseball the ChiSox & Rhinos went head to head with the Sox looking to try & pick up their 1st victory of the 09 season & snap a 8 game losing streak. In the previous game the two teams battled to a 11-10 Rhinos victory & this game was pretty much the same just lower scoring & better pitching. ChiSox ace Paul Powers took the mound with a meg-shift defense behind him in the infield due to injuries & lack of players. Paul managed to overcome 2 errors that lead to 2 unearned runs late in the game that made the game 4-3 goin into the top of the 7th. The Sox got on the board in the 2nd inning with 3 runs on the strength of a 2run double by OF Joey Ellison & the Sox scored again in the 5th with a clutch RBI single from Reggie Lee that gave the Sox the lead for good. FINAL, 4-3 CHISOX!!!

6/21/09 vs Padres: On a hot & humid fathers day morning, the Padres & ChiSox hooked up for what was expected to be a good game as usual, but turned real ugly for the ChiSox right off the bat in the top of the 1st. One thing that you do not do with a good 1st place team such as the Padres is give them base runners, or you can expect to lose. Top of the 1st ChiSox pitching allowed a total of 7 free passes, starter Joey Ellison couldnt find his stuff for the second straight outting giving up 5 of those free passes & got tagged with 7 earned runs. The Padres never looked back from that point & had it on cruise control the rest of the way as the Sox never got anything goin at the plate & was handed their 4th shutout in 10 games. FINAL, 11-0 PADRES!!!

6/28/09 vs Giants:  A classic case of hit em where they are as the Sox only managed 3 hits thru 5 innings. The Giants put together a big 7 run 4th inning to put this one out of reach as the ChiSox held things close 4-1 thru the 1st 3 innings. FINAL, 11-1 GIANTS!!!

7/12/09 vs Hammers: After a 2 week break due to the 4th of July weekend the Sox were looking refreshed & ready to get things started. The Hammers jumped on the board early in the top of the 1st scoring 4 runs, the ChiSox quickly answered by scoring 4 of their own in the bottom of the inning tying the game at 4. Some shakey infield defense by the Sox & some walks led to most of the runs scored by the Hammers as ChiSox starter Nick Pistello only gave up 3 earned. With the score 8-6 going into the bottom of the 7th the Sox forged a 2out rally with 2 walks & 2 hits scoring a run to make it 8-7 with the bases loaded. Thats right tying run on 3rd & winning run on 2nd, but the game ended on a VERY questionable called 3rd strike on the outter corner of the plate where a previous pitch in the count was called a ball. No excuses tho, because the ChiSox loss the game by leaving 16 men on base including leaving the bases loaded in 3 different innings. FINAL, HAMMERS 8-7!!!

7/15/09 vs Rhinos: The ChiSox started the 2nd half of the season on the right foot by having a all around good game. On the mound starter Jerome "Big Rome" Burton made his 1st trip to the mound this season & it was lights out as he fanned 12 while only giving up 2 hits in 6 innings. At the plate the Sox offense finally showed signs of what their capable of scoring 13 runs on 14 hits in route to a 13-3 win over the Rhinos. Highlights of the game were provided by Carl "Big Poppa" Gowans with a RF warning track rbi double & Reggie "Big Red" Lee with a 2run double off the left center fence. FINAL, 13-3 CHI-SOX!!!

7/19/09 @ Rhinos: Eisenhower has one of the better fields that the ChiSox play on, but for some reason they have no luck at all their as they have never won a game there on the big field. With the Sox being short on starting pitchers reliever Dave Fields stepped up to take the mound and pitched a good 3 innings before things started to get away from him & he ran out of gas in the 4th. The Rhinos who went into the bottom of the 4th holding tightly to a 6-3 lead took advantage of some erratic pitching as they saw 4 different Sox players take the mound in that inning scoring 11 runs on 4 hits & a whopping 10 walks. FINAL, 17-4 RHINOS!!!

7/22/09 @ Black Sox: The ChiSox continued their hot hitting by putting up franchise highs with 19 runs on 24 hits. The previous high in runs was in 07 with 18 runs vs the Rhinos. The Sox during their current hitting surge have won 2 of their last 3 games scoring 13 & 19 runs in the games they won. Everyone who showed up for this game had a hit vs the rival Black Sox, while Joey Ellison looked like "El Duque" once again starting for the ChiSox after a couple of bad outtings. 7/26/09 @ Giants:  Even tho x-mas is 6 months away the Giants recieved a early gift from the ChiSox who gave up a franchise high 15 stolen bases which pretty much put every Giant player who got on base in scoring position. After 5 innings the game was tied at 6. The Sox took a 1 run lead in the top of the 6th but the Giants answered quickly scoring 4 runs making it a 10-7 game goin into the 7th. The Sox refused to die & scored 4 runs of their own & took a 11-10 lead goin into the bottom of the 7th. The Sox recorded 2 quick outs but then the curse of eisenhower reared its ugly head & after a walk 2 stolen bases & a passed ball the game was tied, then after 2 more walks & a base hit the Giants walked off with a 12-11 win. Paul Powers went the distance on the mound going 7innings only giving up 3 hits & 2 earned runs. This is the 1st game of a back2back weekend in which the Sox started off on the right foot. 8/2/09 vs Black Sox:The Battle of the Sox part 3 started off on shakey ground as Sam Smith made his 1st apperance on the mound this season. He didnt fare to well only goin a 1/3 of a inning giving free passes to 5 of the 8 batters he faced giving the Black Sox a early 5 run lead before reliever Joey Ellison came in & got the final 2 outs of the inning. Black Sox starting pitcher held the hot ChiSox bats at bay with good pitching recording 12k's. FINAL, 10-2 BLACK SOX!!!

Sox starter Joey Ellison pitched a solid 5 innings while his team staked him to a 11-7 lead going into the top of the 7th with Dave Fields taking the mound trying for a 4 out save. The Hammers didnt go quietly as they scored a few runs & had the tying run on 3rd before Fields struckout the final batter earning his 1st career save. The Sox banged out 15 hits highlighted by a 4 for 4 day by Brian Johnson. FINAL, 11-10 CHISOX!!!

8/9/09 vs Rhinos: In game #2 of a 3 game stretch the ChiSox battled the Rhinos at their "House of Horrors" Eisenhower HS. A place they have never won & everything that seems to go wrong will go wrong. Rhinos went up 3-2 after a inning of play & the 2 teams played tit-for-tat the rest of the way with the Sox committing 6 errors & going into the bottom of the 6th down 7-6 looking like the curse of Eisenhower would continue. Not on this day tho as the Sox busted things open in the bottom of the 6th scoring 6 runs. Good game from starter Kevin Collins & Nick Pistello who came in to pick up his 1st win as a ChiSox. FINAL, 12-8 CHISOX!!!

8/10/09 @ Hammers: The ChiSox faced the Hammers for the 2nd time in 3days & as in the previous 2 games in this 3 game stretch the Sox pounded the ball at the plate putting across 13 runs on 15 hits. The Sox scored a total of 36 runs during their current 3 game winning streak & are playing well heading into the last 2 games of the season. Good pitching from Joey Ellison, Dave Fields, KC Collins, Nick Pistello & staff ace Paul Powers, to go along with some bend but dont break defense & hot hitting from the top of the line-up thru the bottom in the month of August as they have a 4-2 record. 8/15/09 @ Black Sox: In game one of back2back games vs the Black Sox the ChiSox jumped out to a little but early 1 run lead after 2 innings. The Black Sox answered by putting up 4 runs in the 3rd inning to take a 4-1 lead but the ChiSox quickly answered that by scoring 4 runs of their own in the top of the 4th taking a 5-4 lead. ChiSox held a slim 7-6 lead goin into the top of the last inning & was looking for a little insurance for starter Joeys Ellison. They scored 4 runs in the top of the 7th highlighted by a rbi triple by Brian Johnson & Karl Wehlus followed that with a rbi double. The ChiSox took the field in the bottom of the inning with a 11-6 lead, but the Black Sox didnt go away quietly as they scored 3 runs to make it a 11-9 final. FINAL, 11-9 CHISOX!!!
