Panthers Carson Burrus & Tyler Nix (MVP) Save the Day

The East Conference won the Texas North Division II All-Star Game against the West, 12-10 in thrilling fashion Sunday afternoon at Greenhill School in Addison. Our Co-Captains Carson Burrus and Tyler Nix STARTED for the East Conference All-Stars, both were on the Man-Up line, and easily played the majority of the game. Although Tyler was a shoe-in for a starting spot with his All-State recognition, Burrus' starting spot was very unexpected, considering that he did not receive All-State recognition nor All-District at attack (and about 10 guys did).

But East head coach Paul Durkin (Plano East's Head Coach) clearly wanted the Panther Team Captains to recreate their regular season magic for the All-Star Game, and his gamble paid off. The East quickly seized the lead 1-0 when Burrus hooked up with Nix on a cross-crease feed. In the third quarter, Burrus chipped in another assist to Nix, who finished with 3 goals. Burrus also gave the crowd and players much to hoot and holler about, as he hit two of the goal's pipes on a single shot, and later hit the goalie square in the facemask with a different shot.

In the fourth quarter, the East lead was thought to be secure at 10-5, so the starters were taken out. The West then won most of the face-offs, isolated successfully, and caused the East to rack up some penalties. Once West closed the East lead to 11-10 with a minute left, the East coaches (including Colleyville Head Coach Brett Grayson) were ready to put in the starting attack and midfield, but that move wasn't necessary after the East sealed the deal 12-10. Game over. And the Most Valuable Player of the game? The coaches' pick from both teams was unanimous - Colleyville's Tyler Nix. One of the West coaches observed after the game, "(Tyler) was everywhere."

That Colleyville contributed 5 points to the winning All-Star team is a feat in itself, but to have one of our own earn the MVP award is a something truly special. Congratulations to Carson Burrus and Tyler Nix for representing this club so well.

So, Panthers? Which one of you will be the club's next assist guru, sharpshooter, or defensive stopper? Who will represent the club in next year's All-Star game? Which one of you will work on your stick skills and become a dominant player like Carson Burrus and Tyler Nix? We'll find out next season...
