Overview

WHO ARE WE?

The Chestnut Hill Youth Sports Club was founded in 1962 as The Chestnut Hill Fathers Club. The Club name was changed in November 2001 by a vote of members present at that Annual Meeting. The name change is meant to more clearly identify the mission of the club. We are a community organization of over one thousand, four hundred families devoted to providing team sports for our children. Although the large majority of our members are from Mt.Airy and Chestnut Hill, they also reside in various nearby communities including Germantown, Roxborough, Oak Lane, Whitemarsh, Erdenheim, Lafayette Hill, Wyndmoor, Flourtown and Oreland. Men, women, parents and non-parents, of all ages and ethnic, racial and social backgrounds volunteer to coach the teams, run the leagues, and administer the club. Their time and dedication benefit an equally diverse group of thirteen hundred children who live or go to school in the Chestnut Hill/Mt.Airy community.

WHAT DO WE DO?

We offer organized group sports twelve months of the year, for boys and girls, ages 5 to 18, regardless of their skill level. Girls are encouraged to play on boys' teams as long as they feel comfortable. The CHYSC Baseball program operates from early Spring through mid summer in various age appropriate leagues including TeeBall (5-6), Rookie Ball (7-8), Minor (9-10) and Major(11-12) Baseball Senior baseball in Montco(13-16), Glenside M-League(13-15),American Legion(16-19) and Softball. In the spring of 2008 we will have Girl's Lacrosse. From late Summer through the Fall, the CHYSC Soccer program operates both intramural leagues, travel teams and Girl's Indoor Soccer. Late Fall through the Winter, the CHYSC Basketball program provides instructional leagues for younger children and competitive leagues for the older ones. There are tournament teams at most age levels and seasonal travel teams for some older groups. This is just an outline of our activities. We welcome your interest and invite you to BE INVOLVED.

WHERE ARE WE?

The physical center of the CHFC is the Watertower Recreation Center of the Philadelphia Recreation Department, Hartwell Lane and Ardleigh Street. We maintain the club office here and enjoy the use of the basketball gym and the two baseball fields. We also enjoy the use of the playing fields and gyms of a half-dozen local schools and institutions. Therein lies the major difference between the CHFC and most suburban and smaller urban programs-----we must pay for the use of nearly all the fields and gyms we use.

HOW IS THE CLUB ORGANIZED?

At the general meeting every fall, any club member can stand for election to the Board of Directors. The Board meets monthly, elects Club officers and makes club policy. Its members spearhead all of the Club's administrative functions; registering members, raising funds, purchasing equipment, scheduling facilities, etc. The President appoints league commissioners and most important, the Club Registrar, chairs Board meetings and is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Club along with the Vice-President, Treasurer and Secretary.
