Cheviot Memorial Field was constructed in 1936 at its current location on Robb Avenue.

As part of the Cheviot Memorial Center Development Plan spearheaded by team owner and city councilman Walter Schuch, the project was funded through the WPA and shares in the teams stock.

The wooden grandstands are part of the original 1880's ballpark and race track that was built at the intersections of Washington Ave. and Smith Road.

The current facility includes the grandstands, a right field "sun deck" and grass covered hillside originally constructed for the larger crowds.

To enter the ballpark, spectators must enter from the top row of the grandstands since the park is built into a ravine, similar to the old Polo Grounds in New York. The outfield playing surface includes a steep terrace in left and center fields that are in play, with the fences on top of the hill. Beyond the terrace and fence are the four story "Field Terrace Apartments". Through the years, many residents of the apartments would enjoy the games sitting on their balconies, hanging signs, throwing parties, collecting homeruns and heckling the opposing outfielders, similar to the atmosphere of Wrigley Field in Chicago.

The field presents a special vintage venue in which to watch and play baseball. Throughout the years, several improvements have been made to the ballpark, however the historical integrity and atmosphere has been largely preserved.

In 2004, the Patriots HAVE BEEN SUCCESSFULL in their efforts to improve this historical landmark by privately funding a community project that includes a new grass infield (complete with drainage, water lines and "turface" soil amendments), rebuilt pitching mound and batters boxes, and pro-style benches in the home dugout. The City of Cheviot has replaced the roof, fixed the bleachers and painted the entire facility.

Funding and pledges of funds are continually presented in support of this project. If you would like to offer your support, either monetarily or just in general, please contact us at the email address listed to the left or sign our guest book and let us know your behind us!
