Cheviot Patriots Baseball Club 1912 |

Sunday, June 21
The Cheviot Patriots Baseball Club - Cincinnati, Ohio
Welcome to the Cheviot Patriots Baseball Club - home of one of America's oldest semi-pro baseball organizations!
The Cheviot Baseball Club has been a semi-pro fixture in Cincinnati since 1912, making 2008 our 96th season.
We participate in the Major Divisions of the NABF, the newly formed Buckeye Baseball League, Cincinnati Recreation Commission League and the Southwest Ohio Collegiate League, playing approximately 50 games a year. Each season usually ends with a birth in the City Championship, a trip to the NABF state and regional tournament and participation in the Buckeye Baseball State Tournament.
In 2007, the Pats took on a completely different managerial approach that paid off tremendously, culminating in the 2007 regular-season City Championship!
2009 will see us compete in the very comepetitive CRC Thursday Major Division and include an independent schedule involving teams from the Southwest Ohio League and Northern Kentucky.
Over the last century, Cheviot has won over a dozen National Championships including the highly successful 1990 season that culminated in a AABC World Series appearance at Stan Musial Stadium in Battlecreek Michigan.
Since our inception in 1912, our ball club has represented a community that has honorably served our country's military. Many of our current and former players have proudly served in the United States Armed Forces, from the First World War to the War in Iraq. An incomplete list players who have served is available on our "HONORED VETERANS" page, and is continuously researched and updated.
Cheviot Memorial Field (named as a tribute to those who have made great sacrifices in the name of Freedom) has served as our home since 1936, making it one of the oldest semi-pro ballparks in the midwest. In 2004, THE PATRIOTS completly refurbished the facility , including a new grass infield, 70 head sprinkler system, dugout enhancements and a complete overhaul of the historic grandstands.
Because of the team's proud history we adopted the "PATRIOTS" name in their honor and will continue to represent them on the field with pride.
Follow the Pat's progress all year long as they continue to pursue another Championship season!

RUSTY THROWS GEM, BUT PATRIOTS JUST MAKING TOO MANY MISTAKES, LOSE 5-0...
 |
|
| ON TO THE CHALLENGERS BRACKET...
|
 |
For the second night in a row, the Patriots get a pretty good effort off the mound - but just can't pull it together enough to knock off the Cincinnati Chiefs in game two of pool play.
For the first 4 innings, it looked like both teams where headed to a classic pitching duel with both hurlers mowing down their opponents in rapid fashion. RHP Brian Rust kept ringing the bell each time he took the pearl in the Chiefs half of the inning.
In the 5th, the Chiefs record a couple of infield hits and reach on some defensive miscuses, giving them the lead at 3-0.
Pats string together a few hits late, but just couldn't get enough going to score.
A late inning 2 run homer by a former Patriot sealed the deal as the Pats go down 5-0.
Definately the Chiefs year as they look to be the team to beat the rest of the way.
Next up for the Pats, the Cincinnati Royals...

PATS COMPLETLY SHUT DOWN BY TOP SEEDED NATURALS, LOSE 2-1...
Well....Not much to do but drown your sorrows after being shut down....
The Pats and Nats kicked off the 2009 CRC City Tournamnt last night in what proved to be a pitchers dual of some sorts.
Josh Schafer threw a complete game 6 hit effort while striking out 9, but the 2 runs ended up being the back-breaker as Cheviot could only muster 1 tally.
The Naturals crafty lefthander held the Pats to just 2 hits all night... Base running blundrs and a blown call on a pickoff that led to a run didn't help, but a tipp of the cap to the Naturals as they simply wanted it more...
So, the Patriots face MUST WIN time tonight as they takd on the Cincinnat Chiefs at 6:30, followed by the Cincinnat Royals at 8:45. Both games on Roselawn field.
If anyone needs us, we'll be at the bar...

Pats Foiled again by the dreaded "one bad inning" syndryom...
Same story, different day. That seems to be the Patriots M.O. this season as they play stellar baseball for 6 of 7 frames....
Now, if we could only get rid of that one middle inning....
Highlights included new-comer RHP Ray Sauer, who litterally shut down the chiefs through his three innings of work, allowing one hit, 0 runs while striking out three. Another new-comer, Jamison Richoff (RHP) followed with eaqually good stuff, but unfortunally fell victim to absent defense in the 5th. Richoff gave up 9 runs, but only 1 was earned. Jamison also recorded three K's in two innings of work. Rounding out the evenings new pitching squad was RHP Pat Stands. Stands worked 2 innings of relief and also allowed 1 earned run, 3 hits and 3 K's.
The 5th is where we had our trouble....again, as 7 errors led to a nine run onslaught of biblical proporsions. Sad thing is, we surrender only 7 hits on the evening, but giving a power club like the Chiefs a big lead kept us down for the count.
Offensive highlights include CF James Wienle (1-3, 2B), 1B Tim Oakes (1-3, 2B)RF Jeff Karp (1-3, 2B) and RF Chris Arold (1-3).
Next up forthe Patriots is a Thursday DH with Yorkville at 6:30 (Roselawn) and the Hawks 8:45 (also Roselawn)

PATS BLOW LEAD LATE, LOSE IN EXTRAS 6-4...
Ugh.
The Patriots and Cobalts hooked up for the first time in 2009 and, as usual, it went down to the wire...
With RHP Josh "Gunny" Shaffer taking the mound and a revamped lineup, the Pats were much better off than a week before.
Shaffer simply stymied the Cobalts f0r 6 innings, allowing one earned run on 6 hits while whiffing 2. But, after facing 31 hitters and a high pitch count, Gunny was through after the 6th. (6hits)
Oakes relieved and promptly recorded 2 outs before the defense stammered a bit. With a walk and a soft grounder seeing its way through the middle, the Cobalts tied it up, forcing extra frames tied up at 4. With no tallies in the 7th, Oakes took the hill again in the 8th. Two walks and a SAC move the runners over with one out...then Oakes' left arm is removed by a Howitzer up the middle, scoring both runs as CSI tapes out the body in front of the mound. (3 hits, 2ER's, 2K's)
Oakes' arm is found near second, reattached, as he finished out the inning with a flyball putout.
The Pats don't go quitely in their half of the inning as Oakes reaches on an error as the leadoff hitter. After a stolen base (yes, a stolen base), the Pats leave 'em stranded with a K and two fly outs.
Offensive highlights; Carson (1-2, R), Phipps (1-2), Oakes (1-3, RBI, SB), Newton (1-3), Karp (2-2, 2B, R, SB), Gorman (1-2, 2SB).
Back at it against the Chiefs next Thursday, 8:45 Hille.

PATS TAKE TWO - FINALLY GETTING BOTH IN AFTER FOURTH RAINOUT!
The 2009 campaign FINALLY kicked off Thursday night after four consecutive rainouts in the CRC league.
Game One saw the Pats take on the Cincinnati White Sox at Hille Field. On the mound for Cheviot was second year RHP and Marine Corps. Veteran Josh “Gunny” Sheaffer. Gunny completely shut down the pale hose with a 2 hit, 7 K effort, never allowing a base runner to reach second base. Sheaffer also went 1-1 at the plate with 2 BB's, 2 RBI's and a stolen base.
Newcomer Kurt Boehringer (RHP - U. of Kentucky) followed Gunny with a perect inning of work, recording 2 K's to finish out the game.
At the plate, Miami shortstop Gil Tuttin went 2-3 with 2 runs scored, 1B Tim Oakes was 2-2 with 2 RBI, 2R's and a stolen base, while Miami catcher Dante Powell recorded a 2-3 night with 2R's, an RBI and SB as well.
Of note for the first time on the Patriots roster, RF Chris “Uncle Jesse” Arnold and LF Jeff “Fish” Karp both recorded singles and RBI's, while the Pats 3B Jason Campbell received an HBP and BB with a run scored. 2B and Thomas More College Alum Nick Kendall also executed a SAC, walk and RBI on the evening.
CF Veteran James “Heads Up” Wienle provided a bit of entertainment with a bizzare attempted steal of home plate in the 3rd, alerting all of South Cumminsville with his intentions during the actual attempt. Incidently, Wienle recorded a SB, SAC and RBI as well. Final Score - 12-0.
Game Two featured the Patriots and Cincinnati Receptions at Hille, with 40 year old Tim Oakes (yes, I said 40...) taking the mound in an emergency start.
With a couple of “Ensure's” and an entire bottle of "Centrum Silver" vitamins, the old lefty came out of retirement to throw a complete game, 5 hit, 2 run, 12K victory for the Pats in somewhat of a nail-biter. With a 130 pitch count, Oakes might be able to hurl again in August….maybe.
Oakes’ counterpart – RHP Shaklighter was very impressive for Receptions, striking out 8 Patriots while holding Cheviot to 6 hits.
Entering the 7th, the Patriots were up 3-0 before Receptions mustered out two runs with two hits. But with 2 out and the tying run on third, Oakes was able to reach down and record the “K” to end the game. Final score, 3-2.
Offensively, Wienle, Kendall, Oakes, Karp, Arnold and Powell all recorded hits, with Wienle blasting a triple in the 5th scoring Sheaffer to breaker the stalemate. Tuttin (SAC) and Oakes were responsible for the other two runs in the 6th.
Defensively, Nick Kendall and Gill Tuttin turned in a stellar performance at both 3B and SS respectively.
A tip of the cap to Receptions, who played just as well and should turn some heads in the league this year.

TALE OF TWO GAMES ... BEFORE AND AFTER JACKO NEWS...
 |
|
| RF Chris Arnold Losses his emotions in the 7th.
|
 |
The Patriot Nine (literally) took on the Clermont Zaps, UC - Clermont’s College team Thursday Night at Roselawn Park under beautiful skies (finally!) lead by RHP Josh “Gunny” Shaffer. This first meeting between the Zaps and Pats started off well as Gunny shut down UC’s lineup with three impressive innings of work.
The Patriots scored first in the 2nd inning behind RF Chris Arnolds single to left. SS Gil “Two Out” Tutin plated another with a shot up the middle in the third, followed by another RBI by 3B Brian Rust.
Shaffer and the rest of the Pats were in cruise mode up 3-0 until the top of the 7th, when - with two out – news flashed on the Roselawn JumboTron that Michael Jackson had died……..
……….Absolute horror fell about the crowd and in the field as CF James “Heads Up” Weinle broke down in tears, stating after the game “I just couldn’t believe it…I felt so weak and lost…I really needed a hug right then and there, but there, there was no one…no one…”. LF Jeff “Fish” Karp, seeing Weinle’s reaction to the news said “…He came over to hug me…what an Asshat…”
RF Chris “UJ” Arnold immediately removed all 36 pieces of personal jewelry – except for one white batting glove, and held a lighter in the air for the remainder of the inning.
1B Tim Oakes quickly starting listing his collection of “The Jackson 5” eight-track tapes on E-Bay via cell phone, while SS Gil Tutin completely lost his mind and pull a Milton Bradley on a text-book double play ball up the middle, holding on to the ball after tagging the bag and issuing a self-imposed “…moment of silence out of respect for little Michael…”
Pats catcher Dante “Rube” Powell was so distraught that he immediately went to the dugout and dangled the Patriots 17 year old second baseman over the balcony – refusing to take of his catchers mask….
Shaffer, who struck out 6 and allowed only 5 hits and two earned runs (and hit a leadoff double in the bottom of the 7th) was asked after the game about his thoughts on the passing of the “King of Pop”, stating “…what’s the big deal, that guy sucked…”
Bottom line, Pats give up….literally, 5 unearned runs in the 7th behind 6 errors, losing 7-5….
The Pats will wait for the Autopsy report and take on the Cincinnati Chiefs Saturday at 3:30 - Neverland Ranch….er, Roselawn and try and regroup…..Viva Jacko!

PATRIOTS MANAGER CRAIG GORMAN STEPS DOWN FOR 2009
The Patriots Field Manager for the last two years has decided to hang 'em up - both as the teams Skipper and second baseman.
Craig will focus his attention on coaching a select high school summer program this season while attending school.
Stormin' Gorman will be missed - from his neon highlighted hoopty to his multiple summer doo's, the Patriots will certainly have a different flavor in 2009.
Craig has been a part of Cheviot Baseball since 1999. He has done a great job as Manager the last two seasons - leading the Patriots to a regular season title in 2007 as well as a 3rd place Ohio State Ranking.
The Pats wish him the best and hope he finds success in his new coaching endeavor!
Stay tuned for more as the season draws near!

Oakesy goes yard just enough to win it....
The Patriots longtime firstbaseman Tim Oakes takes home the 2008 University of Cincinnati "Bearcats Alumni Homerun Derby" Championship!
"Twenty-One" went Big-Fly at UC's Marge-Schott Stadium just enough to hang on through the early rounds before sealing the deal in the final cut with 5 knocks.
Oakes stated, "I knew there was a spread on the concourse following the event, so I wanted to end it as quickly as possible.....I could smell the Bar-B-Que".
Oakes is the 2nd UC / Patriot Alum to win the event in it's four year history. Steve Pickerell won it in 2005. Over 50 Alumni participated in the Annual event.....
.....In other news, Redsox 1st Baseman and fellow UC Alum Kevin Youkilus wins the 2008 Hank Aaron Award.....(Pffft!), big deal.

WHISKEY, TANGO, FOXTROT....... PATS END SEASON THE WAY IT BEGAN.....
Well, there is absolutely way too much to cover here, so just enjoy the scoreboard graphics and we'll focus on the standouts.
Pitchers Ryan Burgette, J.D. Pruitt (Game 2 relief) and Jeremy Cockerham all threw terrific games (respectively) - well enough for us to win each game. Combined, they only allowed 5 earned runs (0-3-2) but just didn't get the support at the plate or in the field.
In the end, the Cincinnati Flames advance to the N.A.B.F. World Series in Louisville. We wish them luck as the Cincinnati representitive and hope they can bring back the crown.
Thanks to Tom Nerl for running another great set of tournaments. We'll see you next year!

PATRIOTS WASTE BURGETTE'S EXCELLENT EFFORT BY NOT PLAYING SMART...LOSE 1-0.
Gut check time for the Patriots.
In round one of the NABF, Cheviot's lack of effort and too much talk about games 2 and 3 cost the club dearly as they record only 3 hits while striking out 12 times against Dayton Trophy.
Sadly - with all the speed in the world in our line-up, we continue to waste it with individuality in mind. Yep. Called out.
RHP R. Burgette threw a complete game, ONE-hit gem, recording 13 STRIKEOUTS , 3 PICKOFFS and pretty much doing everything himself.
Dayton scored the only run when the leadoff hitter struck out, reached base on a pass-ball, scoring two errors later. Yep, an offensive strikeout was the only run of the game.
Top of the seventh was our closest shot as 1B Tim Oakes' leadoff double missed tying it up by six inches - bouncing off the toprail of the left field wall.
In all, there were 4 hits and 25 strikeouts in the game with one walk.
The Pats will have to decide how they want to play out the Tournament as they take on the Cobalts @ 3:30, followed by the Chiefs @ 8:30 Friday.

PATS MAKE FINAL FOUR, LOSE IN SEMI-FINALS ON LITTANY OF ERRORS...
Well, the Patriots made a decent run in the city tournament after taking on some of the best Semi-Pro clubs in the region.
After a first round win against the "Woodpushers", Cheviot locked up against the CoBalts in round two, sending the Pats to an extremely tough losers bracket that included games against last years champions Yorkville, the Cincinnati Chiefs and the Cincinnati Hawks.
Knocking off Yorkville against their Ace was the highlight of our run, followed by a big win against a tough Cincinnati Chiefs club (6-5) and ending with a 6-3 loss to finalists the Cincinnati Hawks.
The loss to the Hawks was difficult to swallow as the Patriots out hit them 10-3. We also kicked the ball around a ton which proved to be the difference as the Pats handed the Hawks the win with 5 of their 6 runs unearned.
Overall, a good run as the Pats finished 4th in a field of 18.
Up next, the seasons last hoorah as the NABF Tournament gets started this Thursday. Stay tuned for more Patriot Baseball!

PATRIOTS A NO SHOW AS CHIEFS RUN US OVER.....!
Our apologies to the Cincinnati Chiefs.
Our only Saturday game all season long and it's enough of a "wrinkle" for most of the line-up to go AWOL.
With 5 position players and 4 pitchers, the Patriots withstood a firing squad as the Chiefs lined 'em up and shot 'em down. We record only 3 hits while the Chiefs have their way at the plate and off the mound. Seems like we waisted their time as they came prepared and we didn't.
Some sort of "tune-up" before the Tourney!
Next up, the 2008 City Championship.

PATS SMOKED BY THE HEAT DURING "SOCCERGATE"...
 |
|
| DUDE, ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
|
 |
Well, this seems about right for 2008.
First, the game.
The Ohio Heat and Patriots played a 9 inning contest at LaSalle High School Tuesday night....
....and thats about all of the Patriot highlights right there as they are completely shut down on four hits and no runs. Smoked.
Second, the side show.
Pats follow proper proceedure for reserving the field 3 weeks in advance. We show up only to see that LaSalle's soccer club has taken down the outfield fence. Nice. We put it back up and play ball. About the 3rd inning, Coach "Beckham" shows up pitchin' a fit about practicing in our outfield. Seems Pele thinks we should stop the game, take down the fence, set up his cones, rub his feet and make him dinner. Not happenin'. So, Mia Hamm keeps whinin' and cryin' like a gnat that just won't go away until he finally goes off in a huff with his sports bra in a bunch to practice on the OPEN field behind the the one we're playing on.
Perfect example of why soccer should only be played in Europe.
Needless to say, we've decided that LaSalle might not be worth the effort in the future.
Pats take on the Meridians this Thursday at Roselawn after Lacross practice (6:30).

PATS AND RANGERS GO DOWN TO THE WIRE WHEN BLOWN CALL DECIDES IT.....
Man, we just can't catch a break.
A great game Sunday saw the Patriots and Rangers go back and forth for nine innings with good pitching, good hitting and not so great defense.
RHP Todd Schwertman started and surrendered 5 hits in four innings, allowing 3 runs (0 earned) before giving way to LHP Josh Elleman who threw 2 perfect frames. Jeremy Cockerham recorded one inning and Brian Farrell threw the last two.
Of the 9 innings, only one run was earned as the Pats saw six errors (5 in the OF) foil some decent pitching.
Catcher Brian Conner went crazy at the dish, going 5-5 with two triples, two doubles and a single, with 2RBI.
With the game tied 5-5 in the top of the 9th and two outs, DH Tim Oakes lined a ball up the middle that sent CF Weinle from 2nd to home. Weinle beats the ball slides around catcher but is called out by the home plate umpire "Chester", ending the inning.
Unfortunately, the place goes nuts on the call and when all is said and done, 3 fans and 3 Patriot players (all in the lineup) are tossed by a foolishly "proud" umpire with self esteem issuses.
Subsequently, the Rangers score in the bottom half against a depleted Patriot roster for the "W".
Rangers played great and deserved the win. Just a shame it had to end the way it did. Oh well.
Back at it Tuesday against the Ohio Heat!

| DIFFERENT UNIFORMS / SAME ANTICS...

Sunday, July 20
PATS TANGLE WITH SUDS....ER, I MEAN, HAWKS - WIN 2-1.
 |
|
| Typical Suds - Do as I say, Not as I do..."
|
 |
Well, you can take the "Sud" out of the Hawk, no...wait, the Hawk comes out of the "Sud"? Whatever. Bottom line, some things never change.
Seems that the old Roy Hobbs League antics have crossed over into the CRC.
During RHP Burgette's utter dominance of the Hawks (Managed by one R.H. League President), one bird took exception to being hit late in the game. Conventional wisdom says that when you're up 2-1, you don't want to put the tying run on....but, we don't play in the senior circuit, so I guess we should differ to those that do.
Anyway, said "Falconiform" walks towards the mound, picks up the ball and hits Burgette with a glancing "toss".
Umpires intervene and cooler heads prevail as Burgette strikes out the side in the following half of the 7th for the exclaimation point.
Makes you wonder what kinda fine / suspension or banishment would have been levied had this incident occured on another team.....
I guess it's "good to be the king...."

EMERGENCY SURGERY SIDELINES THE WEBSITE......!
Well, I'm back.
After having emergency surgery on the Fourth of July, I have returned. Thanks for all the well-wishers.... greatly appreciated!
As such, I will attempt to update everyone as best as I can about the past two weeks of Patriot action.
In the meantime, a few updates about the last two series between the Cincinnati Hawks and Fairfield Rangers.
On Thursday, the Patriots and Hawks faced of for the second time this season in CRC action, with Cheviot coming out on top, 2-1.
Sunday saw the Pats and Rangers slug it out in a single nine-inning contest that saw a good game (tied 5-5 in the ninth) sullied by one poor official and 1/3 of the Patriots ejected at the end in a 6-5 loss.
Stay tuned for updates on all of the action since the Fourth!

PATS AND TALONS CLAW OUT ANOTHER SPLIT....
The Patriots and Talons scrapped through another Sunday double-header split, 3-2 and 10-1.
Cheviot sent RHP Bergett to the hill in game one, and he simply dominated again with a 6 inn9ing, 2 hit, 0 run effort with 9K's. Extra innings with no score proved fatal for the Pats as the Talons racked up 3 unearned runs on two Patriot miscues.
Down 3-0 with two outs in the eight, Patriots 1B Tim Oakes hit a single over second base scoring two, but aggressive base running foiled the comeback attempt as a runner was thrown out at third to end the game.
Game two saw the Patriots smoke the ball at the plate, with every player in the line-up recording at least one hit. Multiple hits by Conner, Cockerham, Weinle and Fusco led the attack, with Pruitt adding a 2B.
Schaffer gets the "W".
Next up, a rematch with the Flames, this Tuesday (6:30) at West Chest!

THURSDAY - PATS PUT OUT THE FLAMES / FRIDAY - THEY FLARE UP AGAIN....
Tale of two games here.
On Thursday, the Patriots and Flames met for game one of a two game series at Roselawn. RHP Mark Bogenschutz threw zeros for the Pats simply dominating the Flames young line-up by not allowing a hit.
Offensively, the Patriots scored right out of the gate on a two-run HR by 1B Tim Oakes. Jake Cockerham was a perfect 2-2 with a 2B, and C Adam Farwick was also 2-2.
Then the Tsunami came in the 3rd with the Patriots up 5-0, washing everything away until the next night.
Friday saw a complete reversal of fortune as the Patriots scheduled starter is a late scratch, along with four other regulars making the night unpleasant. The Flames hit 13 ground balls through the infield and pour it on as the diet version of the Patriots looks light. Up 8-2, the Flames start chirpin' and a lesson is learned by a young infielder whose obviously never been there before.
Should make for an interesting rematch.
Next up, the Patriots face the Talons on Sunday (1:00) for a DH at LASALLE HIGH SCHOOL.
See you there!

PATRIOTS OPEN UP ON THE CHIEFS WITH 8 RUNS / 12 HITS AS BERGETT HOLDS 'EM TO 1 KNOCK...!
The Patriots and Chiefs met Tuesday night at Lakotas junior high field (literally) and thumped out 8 runs on 12 hits. Each Pat in the line-up reached base with Cockerham, Mayer, Farwick, Weinle, Fusco and Gorman recording multiple or extra base hits. Weinle with the big blast (2-run HR), Cockerham (3-4, 2R's), Farwick (2-3, 2B), Mayer and Gorman (2B's) leading the way.
More impressive was Bergetts effort on the bump, as he cruised through 5 innings of no hit, 5K hurling before giving up one on a routine flyball (325 to center??).
Desjardins records 2 innings to wrap things up as the final score ends up 8-2.
Next up for the Patriots, the Cincinnati Flames (6:30) at Roselawn this Thursday.

LEATHER TRAUMA AND DUGOUT DRAMA FOIL STEVENS EXCELLENT OUTING, 3-2....
To many things going on...
RHP Brian Stevens threw an absolute jem tonight that yeilded just 5 hits (three infield) and no earned runs with 5k's against the Cincinnati Hawks in 3-2 losing effort.
The Patriots just couldn't field anything, registering a season high 7 errors that led to all three Hawks runs. Not much more to report.
The Patriots will get back at it again tonight against the Cincinnati Flames @ Roselawn (6:30). See you there!

PATRIOTS THUMP CHAMPIONS IN A NINE INNING AFFAIR AT N.K.U......!
The Patriots and Champions Baseball Academy faced off tonight at Northern Kentucky University's Bill Akers Field for a single Nine Inning game in Southwest Ohio League action.
As game time approached (6:00), the Pats could only field 8 players as rush-hour traffic and a Reds games knarled up the roads preventing some pre-game warm up, but at 5:58 - LHP Josh Elleman rolled up in turf shoes and took the hill.
Elly proceeded to shut down the Champs with 8 innings of 5 hit baseball, allowing 5 runs (3 earned) while striking out 5 along the way. RHP Jeremy Cockerham pitched a perfect 9th to seal the win for the Patriots, 10-5.
Big story tonight was the Patriot plate appearances as Cheviot racked up 13 hits led by 1B Tim Oakes (4-5, 2B, RBI, 3R's), 3B Brian Conner (3-6, RBI, 3SB's), RF Matt Singer (2-3, 2RBI, 3B, BB, 3R, HBP) and 2B Craig Gorman (1-3, 3B, SAC).
The win tonight makes the Patriots 3-2 on the season.
Next up for the Pats, the Cincinnati Hawks this Thursday @ Roselawn (6:30). See you there!

PATRIOTS SPLIT WITH TALONS IN 96 DEGREE HEAT......!
Hot.
The Pats and the Cincinnati Talons of the Southwest Ohio League played at Foundation Field this Sunday as the tempurate topped 96 degrees.
Game One saw the Patriots waste a terrific outing by RHP Mark Schwertman in a 3-2 loss. Mark went 6 innings, allowing 7 hits and striking out 9.
The Pats were simply overheated at the plate as they could only muster 5 hits. RF Murden went 1-1with 2BB's and a Run.
Game Two saw the Patriots hydrate while staying in the shade as they "cool" off for all seven runs in the 2nd inning. RHP Brian Farrell recorded his 2nd win of the year as the Pats won 7-6. LF Weinle was 1-1 with 2BB's and a run, while 3B Fusco went 1-2 with a walk / run and RBI. Murden and Jake Cockerham tallied 2B's respectively.
The Patriots now sit at 2-2 on the season and take on the Champions Baseball Academy this Tuesday @ N.K.U. (6:00). See you there!

FORMER PATRIOT JOHNATHAN "J-LUV" LOVE DONATES KIDNEY TO FATHER.....
Former Cheviot Patriot Johnathan Love gives the ultimate gift to his ailing father by donating a kidney.
Mr. Love faced the life-threatening situation side-by-side with his son "J", who didn't hesitate to offer up one of his healthy kidney's when the call came.
At last report (Thursday), both of the Love's were doing well, with "Senior" recovering comfortably, and "Junior" bouncing right back.
Incidently, (and of little importance considering the situation) J-Luv should be back with the Cincinnati Hawks in about 6 weeks.
Way to step up to the plate, J-Luv! Here's hoping for a quick recovery for you and your Dad!

PATS FIND BATS AGAINST MERIDIANS IN A 9-2 VICTORY...!
The Patriots and Meridians squared off Thursday night for the first time in 2008 as the Cheviot Nine find the lumber in a 9-2 win.
Hard throwing Mark Begenschutz allowed only 3 hits and one run through 4 innings of work before giving way to lefty Josh Ellman in the 5th. Josh followed suit with an equally impressive outing, allowing just one hit through 2. Right hander Ryan Desjardins made his '08 debut with perfect inning to seal the deal.
Matt Singer came out retirement for his first appearance of the young season and quickly picked up where he left of in 2006, belting a double with two walks and two runs scored.
Catcher Adam farwick went 3-4 with a double and triple as the big hitter of the night.
Next up for the Pats.... The Kentucky Talons this Sunday at Hamilton's Foundation Field - a 1:00pm double header!

PATRIOTS AND HAMILTON HEAT SPLIT PRACTICE SERIES AT FOUNDATION FIELD...
The Patriots and the Hamilton Heat squared off for a practice series held at beautiful Foundation Field this Sunday and split the contests, 7-4 (Heat) and 12-0 (Patriots).
The field was in great shape (Thanks to Coach "D" and his crew) and the Pats got a lot of much needed work in.
With a few more innings and AB's under their belt, the Patriots kick off the Southwest Ohio League schedule thuis Tuesday against the Cincinnati Cheifs at Lakota.

U.G.L.Y. - PATRIOTS SPREAD POOR PLAY AROUND IN OPENING DAY LOSS TO THE COBALTS...
The Patriots looked liked a team that hadn't practiced or played since 2007......(maybe 'cause we haven"t??) as they dropped the Opening Day game to the Cobalts, 8-1.
Nine errors - spread around pretty evenly - and a rediculous 3 hits made for one really weird night as both clubs looked rusty (Bad guys only had 4 knocks as well).
Anyway, hightlights were, well - few. Chordie Theilmeyer did gun down a Cobalt runner at the plate in the 6th, but he was pretty much the only player without an "E".
Conners, Mays and Oakes tallied the only hits of the evening. Nothing more to report.
The Patriots will face the Cincinnati Heat in the Southwest Ohio League on Sunday at Foundation Field in Hamilton for a Double-header starting at 1:00pm.
See you at the Park!

PATRIOTS SET TO OPEN THEIR 96TH SEASON THIS THURSDAY V.S THE COBALTS!
The Patriots have one pre-season game in the bag and will open up on their historic 96th summer this thursday against the Cincinnati Cobalts at Roselawn (8:30).
As is the case every year, the Pats have picked up some new talent to support the foundation - so it should be another great year of Patriot Baseball!

CHEVIOT BASEBALL "VETS" TOGETHER AGAIN FOR FIRST TIME IN 15 YEARS!
Well it was long overdue, but a few Cheviot Baseball Veterans got together (thanks to Dave Neville) Thursday night at "Take 5 Bar and Grille" for the first time in 15 years.
Scott "Pup" Lawson, Tim Oakes, Tom Lemmink, Billy "The Kid" Danner, Dave "No Tooth" Neville, Denny Rieman and Kenny "The Axle" Babcock all heeded the call to get together and spin a few yarns about the glory days off Robb Avenue.
Topics of discussion included Collosal Roof Shots, Green Jump Suits with Red suspenders, third baseman who played most of their career with stainless steel cookware in the field, malnuirished umpires, outfielders cut down by pellet guns, unusual topography and the ever menacing fly ball off the noggin.
Also overheard were stories of funky undergarments, Meatcakes, an entire city in Michigan affected by lead paint, Monte Carlo night with a"Dental Cheese" incident, an imaginary 300 pound spouse, firstbase coaches with chest wounds, Spriggsy's bathtub adventures (yep, he "played" here too), mutiple watering hole run-ins and a bevy of stories about women....none of which anyone could substantiate....
....and a few fond recollections of a teammate who recently passed - much too early.
Considering it was last minute, not a bad effort the first time out. Hopefully it's the first of many to come as more than a few responded but just couldn't make it happen this year.
If we missed ya, drop us a line via email (oakes21@cinci.rr.com) and I'll make sure that Dave gets your info!
Seacows forever....Huh, Huh, Hurricanes never!

The Patriots would like to recognize all of those who have and are currently serving in the United States Armed Services on this Veterans Day, 2007.
Our respect, admiration and grattitude for your sacrifices on our behalf led us to adopt the name "Patriots" back in 2004.
Please take a moment to visit our "Honored Veterans" page located by the tab on the left hand side of this article to view those players who have served our country throughout history.
Once again, THANK YOU!

FORMER CHEVIOT LEFTHANDER BILL BREWER DIES SUDDENLY AT THE AGE OF 42...
Tradgedy struck the amateur sports community here in Cincinnati on Friday, November 2nd as former Cheviot lefthanded ace Bill Brewer passed away from an apparent heart attack at the age of 42.
Bill, known mostly for his accolades as a high school basketball coach at Moeller, Roger Bacon and Princeton High Schools pitched for Cheviot from 1988 to 1993, leading the team to the AABC Regional Championship in 1992.
As a baseball player, Brewer attended Northwest High School and earned a scholarship to pitch at the University of Dayton.
As a Basketball coach at Roger Bacon, Bill led the Spartans to the 2002 State Championship, handing Lebron James and St. Vincent / St. Mary their only loss of the season.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Bill's wife Peggy and their three daughters in this difficult time.

CINCINNATI'S BEST SQUARE OFF IN EXTRA INNINGS YET AGAIN IN STATE SEMI-FINALS...!
After meeting 6 times this year, two teams can only take so much.....
Saturday's Buckeye Baseball Ohio State Championship featured Cincinnati's top two clubs in yet another knock-down, drag-out struggle with both clubs showcasing some good old-fashion baseball.
Both team's were forced to send their Aces to the hill as only one would advance . Cheviot, the regular season CRC League Champions and Yorkville, the CRC City Tournament Champions were somehow seeded against each other in the quarter-finals as both clubs were passed over for the bye (Yorkville earned it, had it - then somehow "lost" it the day before in favor of another local club...). Kudo's to Yorkville for not pitchin' a fit, which they had every right to do.
RHP Mark Bogenshutz was absolutely stellar in this 9 inning affair as he allowed just 4 hits and NO earned runs, striking out 5 along the way. "Bogey" , along with Yorkvilles Starter, were quite simply the biggest reasons this one turned out to be a classic. Both pitchers went the distance, survived bad innings and came through in the clutch.
No score until the 6th, when Yorkville platted one on two infield errors. Cheviot, the Home team - down 1-0 in the bottom of the seventh, tied it up the very same way on an infield error, an infield hit and a one-out, bases loaded Sac-fly by OF Tyler Kilpatrick that score Jake Cockerham.
Bogey chopped through the 8th - but Cheviot couldn't get going in their half. In the 9th, Yorkville scored a two-out un-earned run as the Pats recorded two infield "E"'s. Ugh.
In the bottom of the ninth, the Patriots just couldn't get that elusive "break" as Tim Oakes' line-drive was snagged brilliantly by a diving 3rd baseman, and Tyler Kilpatricks shot to deep center was tracked down on the run by Yorkville, ending a terrific contest.
It's been said before, and probably way too much about certain pitching efforts - but Bogey - without a doubt, deserved a better fate.
The Patriots simply lost to a better team, but not for lack of effort. We tip our caps to the boys from Indy for a well played game. Couldn't ask for much more (well, except maybe for a "W"..)!
Yorkville went on to complete an outstanding year by being crowned "State Champions" - despite having to fight an uphill battle along the way. So congrats to the Huskers..., they flat out beat everybody to earn it.

PATS BACK ON TRACK - TAKE TWO FROM TOUGH CLUBS TO ADVANCE...
It's late, but Cheviot beats last years State Champions Sharon Center Cox Painting in a classic battle 5-4. Rosa tough with Complete Game win, and Gormans Safety Squeeze in the 6th wins it, 5-4.
Game Two saw the Pats jump out early and never look back as they beat the Streetsboro SlamSox 11-3. RHP Stephens was the story as he completely shut down an offense that went extra innings against Yorkville earlier, only to lose, 11-10 in extra frames.
Cheviot slotted as the 4 seed in the 12 team elimination rounds begining Saturday. And speaking of Yorkville, these two teams will square off for the 6th time in 2007 with the Indiana Nine leading the series 4-1. Hopefully, Cheviot will solve the riddle tomorrow (1:30pm) @ Roselawn 1!

GUT CHECK TIME FOR PATRIOTS AS THEY'RE RUN OVER IN GAME ONE...
Cheviot suffered their worst lost in four years at the hnad of the M.V. Knights to open up the Buckeye Tournament, 11-2.
The worst part of this shellacing was the lack of heart displayed by a team that has had it all year long.
Everything from hitting, throwing and catching was absent for the Pats as they simply laid down and had it handed to them.
Tommorow, Cheviot takes on last years State Champion Sharon Cox Center Painting. If the Patriot Nine don't pull together fast, it's gonna be a short tournament.
First pitch @ 5:30 (Roselawn 1).

 |
The Patriots played two hard fought contests Thursday night in the quarter finals against what has proved to be their arch nemisis in '07 the Yorkville Huskers, followed by the familiar Cincinnati Cobalts.
In Game One, Cheviot squared off with Yorkville for the 5th time this year. Mike Rosa was sent to the mound and charged with defeating a team the Pats have struggled against all season. "Big Sexy" came up huge in his effort as he recorded 6 2/3rds of 7 hit, 2 earned runs baseball. But Rosa left the game tied at three as 4 of those seven hits were flare, bloops and miscues.
In the seventh, Yorkville put two on and in came RHP Mark Bogenshutz. "Bogey" recorded two outs when another "in-betweener" found the pasture setting up a play at the plate. With a quick relay to the plate, Yorkville's runner was caught between third and home. After several throws, Bogey made a beautiful diving tag on the runner who was mistakenly called safe, extending the inning. Yorkville tacked on one more run with the extra at bat as the Pats just couldn't get back up.
Great game between the two teams. Make no mistake - the Pats didn't lose because of the call, but rather on the 6 errors and lack offense with RISP. We just waited too long at the plate - which can't happen against a tough team.
In Game Two, the Pats had to regroup to take on the Cobalts - who lost to Montgomery Inn in game one.
Cheviot sent Matt Wilder to the hill in an effort to change their luck. But, despite an incredible effort through four innings, the Pats found themselves down 4-0 as the Cobalts capitalized on 3 errors and some seriously whacky infield bounces. Only three bloops gets them 4 runs.
In the fourth, the Cobalts got a little "chatty" and awoke the Patriot offense as Cheviot roared back with 4 runs on six shots to tie up the game and silence the chirping.
Game stays tied until the 6th when Wilder - dominating all night long - simply ran out of gas. The valiant effort ends up an 11-5 loss and a disappointing fourth place finish for the League Champions.
Congratulations to Yorkville - the winners of this years post season tournament - for going undefeated enroute to the Championship!
As Regular Season League Champions, the Patriots turned down the automatic NABF bid - favoring instead to participate in the 2nd Annnual Buckeye Baseball Classic that sends Ohio's best teams to Cincinnati looking for an outright State Champion!
League winners from Cleveland, Columbus, Akron and other parts make the trip to the Queen City to fight it out for the crown!
First game for the Patriots is Thursday, 8-9-07 at Hille Field (9:00pm) to take on the Mahoning Valley Knights of the Warren AA Baseball League (Akron).
Go Pats!

FINAL FOUR IS SET AS PATRIOTS (27-8) ADVANCE OVER TIGERS, 12-0.....!
After 18 teams and three rounds in the CRC City Tournament, the Patriots, Yorkville, Montgomery Inn and Cobalts are the only teams left to battle it out for the Tourney Championship....
Cheviot faced the Cincinnati Tigers on Tuesday in the Elite Eight and dispatched the 'Cats 12-0 i 5 innings. RHP Bryan Stephens was on fire as he recorded his 3rd complete game of the season, allowing only 2 hits and striking out five. Interestingly, though, he plunked 4 Tigers along the way - also a season high.
Craig Gorman stay hot going 2-3 (5-6 in the Touurnament), with Jake Cockerham, Curtis Blank, Adam Farwick, Tyler Kilpatrick and Chorde Thielmeyer swinging the stick as well.
Farwick (2-2, 2-2B's) extends his consecutive hit streak to two games (a perfect 4-4 with 3-2B's) and has been plunked 3 times to boot!
In other Tournament action, Yorkville advanced with a 5-2 victory over the Sting, while Montgomery Inn advanced over the Chiefs with an 8-1 win as well.
The Patriots(1) will face Yorkville(4) Thursday @ 6:30 (Roselawn), while the Cobalts(2) take on Montgomery Inn(3) at the same time.
With the start of the Championship Round, the Tournament shifts to double elimination, so four games will be played Thursday and Friday to determine the Tournament Champion.

Tuesday, July 31
PATRIOTS (26-8) TAKE GAME ONE OF THE CITY TOURNAMENT, 12-3....!
Game One of the City Tournament paired the Cincinnati Blackhawks against the Pats, a team Cheviot had not seen this season.
Led by RHP Jeremy Cockerham, the Patriots jumped out to an early 8-0 lead. Cockerham went 4 innings allowing 4 hits, struck out 4 and surrendered only one run. Josh Elleman followed with 2 innings and Bryan Farrell threw the final frame. Both pitchers followed Jeremy's example allowing a total of three runs between them.
Big nights at the plate included 3B Craig Gorman(3-3, 2B, 3r's), Jake Cockerham(2-4, 2B, 2RBI's), Adam Farwick(2-2, 2r's, 2B, 2HBP's) and Tyler Kilpatrick(2-4, 3B, 2r's). Eight of ten hitters records hits as well.
The Pats will take on the Cincinnati Tigers tonight @ 6:30 (Roselawn) in Round Two action.

PATRIOTS (25-8) GET SLOW-ROASTED BY THE RIBS KINGS, 8 - 1....
The Patriots suffered quite possibly the worst lost of the season at the hands of Montgomery Inn Thursday night by a score of 8 - 1.
This game was over by the third inning as Montgomery pushed 8 unanswered runs across the plate on 9 hits.
The Patriots, on the other hand were held to just 5 knocks on the night behind Montgomery's RHP Bill Pittman's knuckle-ball followed by relief pitcher Steve Imhoffs stellar approach.
3B Craig Gorman went 2-3 and that was about it. RHP Josh Bailey also threw two inings of scoreless ball for the Pats, but it was too little, too late.
They just flat out smoked us.
Cheviot takes on the Naturals tomorrow night @ 6:30 (Roselawn) for the final regular season game, so come on out and pull for the Pats!

FOURTH TIME'S THE CHARM AS PATS (25-7) BEAT UP ON YORKVILLE, 15 - 5....!
Cheviot and Yorkville faced off for the fourth time this season with Yorkville leading the series, 3-0.
But with a short roster, the Pats stopped the streak at three with a vengence, beating the Indiana Nine 15 - 5 with a 13 hit barrage that shortened the game from 9 innings to 7.
Mike "Big Sexy" Rosa held the Huskers to only four earned runs on 8 hits, recording 4 strikeouts along the way. Rosa also recorded his fourth complete game of the season.
With the Patriots jumping out to an early 8-1 lead, Rosa cruised the rest of the way, giving up a couple of "texas leaguers" that resulted in three additional runs.
At the plate, SS Jake Cockerham stayed hot with a 3-5, 2BB, 2R, 2B, 2RBI showing with some pretty fancy glove work to boot. Other offensive leaders were 1B Tim Oakes (2-3, 2B, 2RBI), RF Damien Hannah (2-3, 3B, 2RBI) and Chorde Thielmeyer (1-1, 3BB, RBI, 2R). Nine of the Patriots starting ten hitters recorded hits as well.
Next up for the Pats is Montgomery Inn on Thursday (8:30 - Roselawn), followed by the final regular season game on Friday against The Naturals (6:30 - Roselawn).

PATRIOTS (24-7) TAKE TWO FROM TIGERS ON NEARLY PERFECT DAY...!
Sunday saw the Tigers and Patriots square off for the 2nd and 3rd time this year at Roselawn Field.
In game One, RHP Brian Stephens was nearly as good as the weather, going all 7 innings for the fourth time this season with a four hit, one run effort. Stephens had to be that good as the final score was only 2-1!
Both teams were scoreless into the third when Craig Gorman scored on Tim Oakes' RBI single to center. In the fifth, Gorman scored again from third when the Patriots executed the delayed steal perfectly.
Big hitters for the Patriots were CF Chorde Thelmeyer(2-3), 1B Tim Oakes(1-2, RBI) and RF Tyler Kilpatrick (1-1, 2BB).
In game Two, much the same from the Pats pitching corps. as Lefty Josh Elleman went 4inns. with 4K's, 3 hits, and 1 unearned run. RHP Jeremy Cockerham followed suit with 2 innings of perfect pitching (0H, 2K's). Jeremy was followed by little brother Jake, who threw the seven allowing only one hit.
Offensively, Chorde Thielmeyer stayed hot with another 2 hits (2-3, 2B, 3R's). Craig Gorman also recorded 2 knocks (2-3, 2B, 2RBI). Five other hitters recorded hits as well as Cheviot went on to win 7-1, sweeping the Tigers in the regular season, 3-0.
Cheviot will face Yorkville, Indiana on Monday night for the fourth match up this year. The Pats will be looking to salvage the series with a "W" agains the Huskers.

PATRIOTS (22-7) SWINDLE THE PIRATES BEHIND FARRELL, 9 - 4.....!
The Patriots faced the Cincinnati Pirates Friday night and rode to victory behind the RHP Bryan Farrell's overpowering effort.
Farrell went 7 innings for the complete game victory, striking out a season high 11 batters while surrendering only 4 hits and 2 walks.
It took a while for the Pat's to open up at the plate, but Farrell made sure the game was never in question.
Eight of nine Patriots recorded hits on the evening, with six hitters in the multiple category...

PATRIOTS (21-7) JUST CAN'T SEEM TO GET PAST YORKVILLE, LOSE 6-2...
Yorkville, Indiana seems to have our number this year as the Patriots drop their third contest against the boys from Indiana, 6-2.
Poor Defense, a lack of timely hitting and getting down early to a solid team isn't the exactly the receipe for success.
LHP Josh Elleman threw much better than the scoreboard reflects, but the Patriots just couldn't get it going for him...
Curtis Blank and Josh Bunnell had the hot bats tonight, but couldn't work enough magic to overcome the result.
Next up, the south of the border "Dos Equis" on Thursday, followed by the Cincinnati Pirates on Friday.

PATS WIN CRC REGULAR SEASON TITLE WITH DOMINANT EFFORT OVER COBALTS, 7-3...!
The Cheviot Patriots and Cincinnati Cobalts squared off Friday night at Roselawn Field for the rubber match of the 2007 regular season.
But with LHP Mike "Big Sexy" Rosa on the hill for Cheviot, the game was never in question. Rosa completely shut the Cobalts down with a 3 hit, 5 strikeout effort.
The Pats scored seven times in the first three innings and never looked back.
The Cobalts only runs were mustered when the Patriots, up 7-0, decided to throw the ball around the horn....and elsewhere with runners on base. The Pats recorded 12 hits on the evening from eight different players.
With the win, the Pats take the regular season series over the Cobalts 2-1, and ALSO win the CRC (Friday) League Regular Season Crown with a CRC league record of 18-3 - all with 8 games to go!
The Patriots (21-6 overall) will face the Montgomery Inn Nine on Sunday for a DH starting at 1:00 (Roselawn). Then, it's a 4th of July Championship Game rematch with Yorkville, Indiana on Monday for a 9 inning game (6:30) at Roselawn Field.

ELLEMAN NETS THE STING WITH 2 HITTER...PATS (20-6) COMPLETE SEASON SWEEP...!
LHP Josh Elleman was nearly perfect as he completely dominated the Cincinnati Sting Thursday night with a two-hit, complete game performance.
Josh had a no-hitter broken-up in the fifth inning when a ground ball to 3B Will Grant took a funky bounce hitting him in the face. Willy stayed in the game and turned in 3 defensive gems in the later innings.
The Sting recorded their 2nd hit in the bottom of the 7th with the score already 9-1. Two errors in the 2nd inning allowed the Sting their only run of the game.
Big hitters for the Patriots included Josh Bunnell (2-3, 2R), Craig Gorman (2-4, 2B, RBI), Tim Oakes (2-2, 2B, 3RBI, 2R), Adam Farwick (2-3, RBI) and Jeremy Triggs (2-3, 2SB).
With the win, Cheviot moves to 20-6 on the season and will take on the Cincinnati Cobalts tomorrow (Friday) at Roselawn (6:30) for the CRC regular season league title!

PATS FINISH IN 2ND PLACE IN FOURTH OF JULY TOURNAMENT....
The Patriots fought their way to the finals only to come up short in the Championship Game against Yorkville Indiana, 12-6.
This was a close one through 4 innings as the Patriots fought back from an early 4-0 deficet. RHP Bryan Farrell entered the game in the 3rd and allowed the Patriots to bring a lopsided score to 7-5. But, with two outs, Yorkville benefited from two of the most bizarre officiating calls ever recorded - taking the wind out of our sails and paving the way for Yorkvilles crown. The Patriots out-hit the Yorkville Nine, but with 7 unearned runs, 6BB's and 6WP's, it just wasn't meant to be...
In the Semi-Finals, LHP Jeff Sanders absolutely shut down the host team Rangers with a 6 hit, 7K, 1 run effort. Fellow 38 year old 1B Tim Oakes recorded 4RBI's enroute to a 7-1 Patriot victory.
In game three against Midland, the Patriots extended their dominance over the Warriors, winning their fifth straight game over a three year period against the boys in blue, 2-1. LHP Josh Elleman stymied Midland with a 4 hit effort complete game. Thielmeyer, Blank, Jake Cockerham, Oakes and Hannah all came up big at the plate.
Congrats to Yorkville, Indiana for winning the Tournament - going undefeated the whole way with a tough 2007 squad.
Also congrats to the Tri-State Rangers for putting together a terrific Tournament with well maintained fields, concessions and competition! We' d be honored to return in 2008!

IT'S OFFICIAL...PATS IN A SLUMP...OUT-SLUGGED BY RED SOX!
The Patriots went into Sundays game with the Burlington Red Sox needing a win to spell the previous weeks grind. But apparently, nobody called the Burlington Red Sox to tell them that as they handed Cheviot an 8-6, 15-hit whitewashing!
Pats had trouble all day in the field, off the hill and at the plate. Burlington showed up to play and did everything just about right.
The Patriots stranded 13 runners on the day, recorded 5 errors and issused 9 free passes as they just couldn't keep up with the hot hitting Sox club - who at one point were up 8-3.
For the Pats, 3B Craig Gorman (2-3, BB, R), SS Jake Cockerham (2-3, BB, 2R) and 1B Tim Oakes (3-4, 2B, R, 4RBI's) were the only offensive highlights.
The Patriots are now 14-4 on the season an will face the Cincinnati Chiefs on Thursday at Hille (6:30).

PATS SPLIT RARE THURSDAY DH WITH COBALTS AND MONTGOMERY INN...
The Patriots faced the Cincinnati Cobalts and Montgomery Inn in a twi-night double header Thursday night after taking the red-eye back home from Wednesday’s game with the Force.
Still in a funk, the Cheviot Nine took the field against the Cobalts (like, everyone of 'em from the late 80's on...) in game one. Bryan Farrell took the hill and struggled early. The righty wasn't as sharp tonight, but still held the Cobalts to 4 runs, two of which were earned. The Patriots had trouble with the dreaded infield pop-up (one that wasn't seen - the other misplayed by an over-medicated Alzheimer’s patient) that put the Cobalts ahead by two. Farrell shook it off and muscled through 6 innings before Monday’s winner Josh Elleman threw a perfect 7th.
Patriot hitters hit the ball hard all night - but they kept finding fielders. Three doubles and six hits plate only two runs. Swinging for the fences with UC's head coach in the stands didn't help either (need a "slightly used" 38 year old stone-footed first baseman with high miles, new paint and a lot of baggage?).
Game goes to the Cobalts, 4-2.
In game two against Montgomery Inn, the Pats faced the Legendary Steve Imhoff, who absolutely shut down the Patriot Offense for 6 strong innings. Imhoff held Cheviot to two hits for all six frames before the Pats scored to tie it at one. Later in the inning, the Patriots took the lead for the first time when 2B Gorman doubled in the go ahead run. In the top of the 7th, the bats came alive as Cheviot plated 5 runs to go up 7-1. Montgomery scored once in the bottom before Elleman (his 3rd appearance in 3 days and 2nd on the night) shut the door for the 7-2 victory.
Chorde Thielmeyer started for the Pats and threw 5 innings of one run ball. Chorde also tripled in the 7th and had 3 RBI's on the night.
On a side note, the Pats hope that Mrs. Imhoff (Steve's mother) recovers quick and suffers no ill-effects from tonight’s bizarre foul ball incident in which she was hit in the face by a ricocheting foul ball.
The over-extended Pats will play their 7th game in 6 days tomorrow night when they face the Cincinnati Sting at Roselawn (6:30).
The Patriots move to 14-3 on the year.

Missed flights, Ghost runners, Coaches in Turf's and the "State Poll Curse" = 7-2 loss to the Force...
Ugh.
Not much to report here other than an absolute poor day against a good team.
After traveling two time zones to Little Miami on Monday, the Pats headed back on Wednesday for game two.
But, with layovers in West Chester and a poor understanding of the international date line, Cheviot couldn't get 'em there on time. Graciously, the Force allowed the Pats to hit out of order, use "Ghost Runners" on the bases and a stray dog in the leadoff spot 'till someone with a heartbeat showed up.
Bottom line, the Pats couldn't get it going at the plate, off the mound or in the field. Tough to do when facing a good team.
Kudo's to the Force for allowing us to "bend" the rules quite a bit for the sake of the game and for the well earned win. They beat us, fair and square.
Back to the grind on Thursday with a tough DH against the Cobalts and Montgomery Inn.
Pats now 13-2.

PATS SURVIVE LATE RALLY TO BEAT THE FORCE, 8-6......IMPROVE TO 13-1!
The Patriots faced a tough Cincinnati Force College Team tonight at Little Miami Field and came away with victory number 13.
Suffering from jet-lag and multiple layovers in Fairfield, the Pats shook off the day trip to the northeast to face the Force on their home turf.
Josh Elleman lead the Patriots off the bump and threw 6 2/3rd's innings of 10 hit, 4 run baseball. Elleman didn't have his best stuff tonight but battled through for the victory. Bryan Stephens came in with bases loaded and 2 outs in the seventh for his first save of the season.
The game stayed close as both clubs were knotted at 3 runs through 5 innings. But the Pats blew it open in the 6th with 4 runs generated by Farwick, Grant, Kilpatrick, Thielmeyer, Gorman and Blank, all of which either hit, walked, sacrificed and/or scored . Add another run from an RBI hit by Grant in the top of the seventh, and the Pats were up 8-3.
But, in the bottom of the seventh and Elleman on fumes, the Force knocked in 3 runs and put the winning run on first before Stephens entered the game. With one pitch, Stephens closed it out for a final 8-6.
CF Chorde Thielmeyer recorded his fourth assist of the year when he gunned down a runner at the plate in the 3rd.
The Patriots will have a travel off day before returning to Little Miami on Wednesday for Game Two of the Series with the Force. Save up those miles, boys!

PATS TAME TIGERS IN TWO....MOVE TO 12 - 1.....!
Fathers Day proved to be a good one for the Patriots as they continued their winning ways by taking two games from the tigers today, 11-1 and 10-0.
Farrell threw game one for the Patriots, recording his third victory of the year allowing just 4 hits / 9 K's and one run all day.
Big hitters for the Pats included Gorman (3B, 2R), Blank (3-4, 2B, 2R, 3RBI), Jake Cockerham (3-4, 2R, 2RBI) & Kilpatrick (1-1, HR(3), 2BB, 2R, 2RBI).
Game two saw Jeremy Cockerham on the hill for Cheviot enroute to a 10-0 shutout. Jeremy surrendered just one hit, striking out 4 in five innings of work. Chorde Thielmeyer made his mound debut in the 6th throwing a perfect inning to secure the victory.
Hitting highlights in game two were provided by Gorman (3-4, 2B), Hannah (1-3), 2B) and Kilpatrick (2-3, 2B, 2R).
The Patriots face the Cincinnati Force tommorow and Wednesday nights in a rare 2 game series at Little Miami High School before returning to CRC action on Thursday.

PATS WIN ANOTHER CLOSE ONE, MOVE TO 10 - 1.....
The Patriots and Cobalts met for the first time in 2007 Thursday night with both clubs turning in stellar mound performances.
The Patriots were led by RHP Brian Stephens who third win of the year with an impressive 4 hit / 0 earned runs effort. Stephens surrendered two unearned runs in the 2nd and pitched his way out of a couple of jams in the middle frames.
Couple that with a Patriot first-ever triple play in the fourth and some heads up aggressive offense throughout the night and the result is "W" number 10 on the year.
The Pats scored early in the 1st on a two out RBI double by 1B Tim Oakes. The Cobalts answered with their two runs on a couple of miscues in the field in the 2nd.
In the fourth, Chorde Thielmeyer scored on a sac by Oakes to make it 2-2, where it stayed until the bottom of the 7th, when leadoff hitter Willy Grant forced the Cobalts Defense into an errant throw while hustling to first.
RF Tyler Kilpatrick then executed a perfect bunt to move Grant to second, who alertly took third with no one on the bag. With a foot race to the bag, a forced throw got away from the defense and Grant scored the winning run in walk-off fashion.
Tip of the cap to the 'Balts RHP Mike Wagner who was equally dominating on the night.
The win moves Cheviot to 10-1, as they prepare to take on the Tigers in a doubleheader this Sunday @ Roselawn. See you there!

PATS MOVE TO 9-1 WITH 1-0 WIN OVER TOUGH THUNDERHAWKS CLUB...!
The Patriots improved their record to 9-1 on the season tonight with a hard fought win over the Middletown Thunderhawks.
Mike "Big Sexy" Rosa took the pill for the Pats and turned in an absolute, near perfect gem for his 3rd "W" of the year. The "Sex Dawg" threw "0's" all night, taking a no-hitter into the 6th before allowing a leadoff single. Mikey ended up allowing two singles and no runs while striking out 8 batters on the evening.
The Thunderhawks countered with an equally outstanding pitching performance as well, with their hurler throwing 6 innings of 2 hit, 9 K baseball.
The game stayed scoreless into the 6th when the Patriots leadoff hitter, Chorde Thielmeyer drew an opening walk, followed by another base on balls by 2B Craig Gorman. Thielmeyer advanced to third on a wild pitch. With one out and runners on 2nd and 3rd, 1B Tim Oakes hit a ball to the right, scoring Thielmeyer with what proved to be the only run of the game.
A great defensive effort again by the Pats - especially 3B Willy Grant, SS Jake Cockerham, and CF Chorde Thielmeyer, who not only scored the winning run, but also gunned down a Hawk at the plate in the 4th.
Nice job by Middletown. A solid team to be reckoned with!
The Pats take on the Cobalts Friday night at Roselawn (6:30). See you there!

PATRIOTS AVENGE OPENING DAY LOSS WITH A TWO GAME SWEEP OF MONTGOMERY INN!
The Pats went into Sunday's double-dip with the Solid "Rib Kings" Club looking to avenge their only loss of the season.
In Game One, Cheviot again got on the attack early scoring 7 runs in the first two frames.
In the fourth, with the Patriots still up 7-0, the team fired up the bats once more, plating 5, and adding 2 in the fifth to finish Game 1 with 14 runs.
Multiple hits came from SS Curtis Blank (3-4), 1B Tim Oakes (2-2, 2 Sacs, 4RBI), LF Damien Hannah (2-3, 2RBI, 2R's), 3B Willy Grant (2-3), RF Tyler Kilpatrick (2-3, 2RBI) and DH Scotty Johansing (1-1, 2RBI, Sac).
Pitcher Bryan Farrell again dominated the game with a 2 hit complete game shutout!
In Game Two, the Pats face M.I.'s tough RHP Kevin Ralston - who beat Cheviot on opening day 2-1. But the hot hitting Pats continued their early inning explosiveness and scored 5 right out of the gate! Cheviot added 2 in the second and one in the third, totaling 8 altogether.
Montgomery fought back in the 5th, taking advantage of a pitching change when Starter Brian Stephens had to leave the game with a tight bicep (day-to-day....aren't we all?).
M.I. scored three, then two more in the 7th - making the score 8-5.
Closer Ryan Desjardins entered the game with bases juiced and the tying run on first. "Dez" quickly recorded 2 K's and a game ending 6-3 for the save.
The Patriot defense kept the game in check all day with outstanding plays by LF Damien Hannah, SS Curtis Blank, 3B Willy Grant and 1B Tim Oakes.
The Pats (8-1) will face the new Cincinnati Thunderhawks this Thursday at Hille Field (6:30) before taking on the Cincinnati Cobalts on Friday (Roselawn - 6:30) and a DH rematch with the Cincinnati Tigers on Sunday (Roselawn 1:00 / 3:00).

PATS WIN BATTLE WITH MERIDIANS, 9-4...
The Patriots and Cincinnati Meridians battled through 5 innings of hard fought baseball before the Cheviot Nine broke the game open in the sixth with 4 unanswered runs.
Mike "Big Sexy" Rosa recorded his second "W" of the season with 6 innings of 8 hit / 6 K framework, allowing only two earned run. Ryan Desjardins closed the game out in the 7th with a perfect 2K, no hit frame to seal the victory, 9-4.
Despite the final score, the game was tight through 5, with both clubs knotted at 2 a piece. In the 6th, SS Jake Cockerham hit a one out single and advanced to 2nd on a pass ball. 1B Tim Oakes broke then broke the stalemate with a double off the centerfield wall to score Cockerham. The Pats then recorded three straight hits from Bunnel, Johansing and Farwick, along with a sacrifice by Hannah, making the score 6-2 after 5 1/2.
A 2-run Meridians Homer made it 6-4 after 6, but the Pats tacked on 3 in their half of the 7th to seal the deal and move to 5-1 on the year.
The Pats next face the Cincinnati Pirates Friday, Roselawn Field @ 8:30.

In game one, the Pats turned in a terrific outing by RHP Brian Stehpens, who recorded the win in only 5 innings of work, striking out 3 Tigers while allowing only 3 hits and no runs.

2007 marks the 95th year of Semi-pro Baseball for the Pats.
The team has undergone some terrific changes this year lead by new manager Craig Gorman. Craig has been with the club for over 6 years as a player and assistant coach and will assume the duties this season as player / manager.
The team has reached out a lot further geographically as well, including players from as far as Iowa, Tennessee and Central Ohio.
The Patriots will also be playing all of their Sunday games at Roselawn and Hille Fields this year as well.
See you Sunday!

PATS FOLLOW TREND, OPT OUT OF THE SENIOR LEAGUE FOR 2007.....
The Patriots have decided to forgo the Roy Hobbs league, adding their name to a list of teams that have dropped the 30 and over circuit.
Off season hijinx, rising costs and the removal of Cheviot Memorial Field from league play have forced the team to step back and ask, "Is it really worth it?" Answer: We'll pass.
Add on the fact that three other teams have done the same thing makes it a no brainer.
The Pats will focus their energy on the CRC league and look forward to competing in the NABF, City Championship and Buckeye State Tournaments.
First Game - May 27th! Go Pats!

PATS LOSE NAIL-BITER ON OPENING DAY, 2-1.
The Patriots lost a defense gem on Sunday to the equally sure-gloved Montgomery Inn "Ribbers" by a score of 2-1.
A lone defensive miscue gave the Montgomery nine a 2-0 lead in the first, and a solo shot by Outfielder Tyler Kilpatrick in the fifth accounted for the low offensive output by both clubs.
The story of the day was slick glove work by both clubs, as the Pats hit hard but couldn't find the real estate in all seven frames. The Pats kept pace in the field as well with three double plays coming from the new middle-tandem of SS Jake Cockerham and 2B Curtis Blank.
Last years MVP Jake Cockerham also showed up at the plate for the Pats leading the team with 3 hits.
RHP Brian Stephens threw 4 dominating innings with no earned runs, Followed by single inning scoreless performances by RHP Jeremy Cockerham, RHP Roy Eicher and LHP Josh Elleman.
Congrats to the Montgomery Inn squad on a well earned victory.
Next up for the Patriots, the Cincinnati Sting this Thursday @ 8:30 (Roselawn). See you there!

"BIG SEXY" ROSA STYMIES STING WITH 4 HIT - 6 K - COMPLETE GAME EFFORT...
LHP Mike "Big Sexy" Rosa put the Pats back in the win column Thursday night turning in a dominating 4 hit gem. Mike allowed no earned runs, struck out six came up "big-time" in two innings with runners in scoring position.
A few fielding miscues allowed the Sting to register 2 unearned runs which were overshadowed by outstanding defensive efforts by CF Corde Thielmeyer and catcher Adam Farwick.
3B Craig Gorman collected two hits, and - after a two year hiatus - veteran Scott Johansing registered his first hit since 2004.
Next up for the Pats - The Cincinnati Naturals Friday, June 6th at Roselawn (6:30).
