Chesapeake Bay Chiefs: Chiefs Tier II Hockey
Thursday, April 6Tier II Travel Program
Program Overview
The Travel program, Tier II, is the most competitive level of hockey play that the Club offers and requires the greatest time commitment by both the child and the parent. It is very important that the player and parent understand and accept the time commitment of the travel program. Parents and players should be prepared to accept this level of commitment or reconsider applying for the travel program. Each travel team will have at least two practices per week on weeknights which will include some full ice practice time, except for Mites.
USA Hockey categorizes travel teams into Mite, Squirt, Peewee, Bantam, and Midget levels. The age categories for these levels are as follows: Travel Level Age Mites 8 and under Squirts 9 and 10 Peewees 11 and 12 Bantams 13 and 14 Midgets 15 to 18 Ages are as of December 31st of the playing season
Teams are formed in May- Mite, Squirt, Peewee, Bantam and Midget level. The level (AA, A, B) at which the teams will play at is dependent upon the skills of the players trying out and the number of players registering.
Travel games are against other Capital Beltway Hockey League (CBHL) clubs.
Capital Beltway Hockey League CBHL teams are usually from around the Beltway, but also include teams from Hagerstown, MD, Easton, MD, Hampton Roads, VA, Charlottesville, VA and Richmond, VA. The CBHL usually plays around a 15-20 game schedule at all levels and a season ending tournament of 1 to 2 games for those teams that qualify. CBHL league play is divided into the AA league (most competitive teams), the A level and the B league. CBHL competition may require overnight stays.
Other Travel Games These non-league games may be scheduled against CBHL teams, Delaware Valley Hockey League (DVHL) teams and other Tier 1 and Tier 2 clubs, and may require away weekend trip(s). All travel teams should anticipate playing 4 to 5 pre-season games. In addition to pre-season, non-league and league play, travel teams participate in tournaments, which almost always are out of this general area and will require overnight trips.
Until final registration and the tryouts have been completed, the Chesapeake Chiefs will make no commitment at what level each team will play in the CBHL and/or DVHL nor will the Chiefs guarantee the number of teams at each level. In addition, the Chiefs reserve the right to make changes to the Head Coach selections at any time.
