2008 08 Kickoff Team
2008 Fall
ClimbtoGlory
10th Mountian Division
WAGS Tournament - October 11-13, 2008:  We welcome the teams that are visiting from out of town.  I hope you enjoy your visit and have a great experience with the WAGS tournament.  We'll be playing at Chinn Park and be facing some great teams and there will be some exciting soccer.
2008 Fall:  Good start, 12-2-0 so far....the Firecats started the season with some wins in the Spirit Kickoff outside Philadelphia and a finalist finish in Olney.  We're in 2nd place by a point in WAGS D1 with 3 matches to go and overall we still have 12 or more matches remaining.

Climb to Glory - 10th Mountain Division:  This is one of the symbols for the 10th Mountain Division.  We've adapted this symbol in honor of one of the fathers currently serving in the Military in Iraq.   As of November, we'll have two Dads deployed in Iraq, our prayers are with you.

2008 Spring Summary: The girls finished 22-3-1 for the spring and were WAGS Division 1 champions.  The girls also won the Virginian and the Arlington Invitational Tournaments.   We are lean, 15 players, and are always on the lookout for top players who are interested in our program and who want to compete with the best teams in the nation.

Rankings:  Don't really matter much, but we're ranked 8th in one service, 11th in another and 12th in a third (in the nation).
We stay in accordance with WAGS rules regarding recruiting, so if you're interested, please contact us first...Nadir at (703) 403-0545 or Rich at (703) 378-7667 or Richgleason@cox.net

We believe in The Pursuit of Excellence.

Thank you to those individuals and teams both older and younger that come to practice and scrimmage with us.  We learn a lot and enjoy your company.

Travel:  Please try our travel services...it is open to anyone in the public to use, great rates and great service:   www.ytbtravel.com/firecats

Donations:  We are always looking for donations to offset the cost of uniforms, travel, tournament fees, league fees, insurance and myriad other expenses.   You can contact Bev Sweatman through richgleason@cox.net (messages forwarded).
Sponsorship:  Thank you to Wal-Mart, Sam's Club, Glory Days Grill and Dr. Crutchfield for being sponsors for the team this year.  We encourage our teammates, friends, and family to do business with these establishments. Web Links:

Words of Wisdom:

  • "The highest reward for a person's toil is not what they get for it, but what they become by it." - John Ruskin
  • "Practicing with the same intensity as games is key and critical to good execution" - Gary Smerdzinski
  • "Not everyone who practices every day is a champion, but everyone who is a champion practices every day"
  • Don't knock your competitors.  By boosting others you will boost yourself.  A little competition is a good thing - Jacob Kindleberger.
  • "There's only one way to succeed in anything and that is to give it your all"  - Vince Lombardi
  • "Never give up, things aren't always going to be how you want them to be. If you keep working hard, eventually you'll get it." Jarrett Payton
  • "Nothing great was ever acheived without enthusiasm" - Ralph Emerson
  • "I find that the harder I work, the more luck I seem to have."   - Thomas Jefferson
  • "Energy and persistence conquer all things." - Benjamin Franklin
  • "Success is not final, failure is not fatal. It is the courage to continue that counts." Winston Churchill.
  • "The spirit, the will to win, and the will to excel are things that endure. These qualities are so much more important than events." --Vince Lombardi
  • "The vision of a champion is someone who is bent over, drenched in sweat, at the point of exhaustion when nobody else is watching."  -Anson Dorrance
  • "The way a team plays as a whole determines its success. You may have the greatest bunch of individual stars in the world, but if they don't play together, the club won't be worth a dime." - Babe Ruth

Accept defeat with dignity.  Winning is the object of playing any game. Never set out to lose. If you do not play to win, you are cheating your opponents, deceiving those who are watching, and also fooling yourself. Never give up against stronger opponents but never relent against weaker ones.  It is an insult to any opponent to play at less than full strength. Play to win, until the final whistle.  But remember nobody wins all the time. You win some, you lose some. Learn to lose graciously.  Do not seek excuses for defeat. Genuine reasons will always be self-evident. Congratulate the winners with good grace. Do not blame the referee or anyone else. Be determined to do better next time. Good losers earn more respect than bad winners.
