Recreation League Signups This Weekend

Signups for the Spring 2008 recreation season are underway. There is an in-person signup scheduled for Saturday, December 8th from 10am to 1pm out in front of Forest Hill School. In addition, you can sign up online anytime of day or night at www.campbellsoftball.com (just follow the registration links). It’s fast, and it’s easy and it’s the only way to pay by credit card. If you do signup online, we ask that you come in to one of the in-person registrations to pick your uniform size and show a birth certificate if you are new to the league. We have shirts of all sizes to help you select the correct size. In addition to this week’s in-person registration, you can check the website (www.campbellsoftball.com ) for other dates as well. So get the word out and tell family, friends, neighbors, and anyone else you can think of to signup. We are trying to boost registration by about 10% this year and we are especially looking for girls new to softball (and any girl new to the league can buddy with a friend).

Fund Raising Events

The new snack shack is slowly climbing out of the ground but we still have only half of the $15000 we need to finish it. In addition to collecting donations during registration, we will be running a series of fund raisers to help close that gap. So far we have scheduled "eat out" nights at Chuck E Cheese on January 12th and Chevy’s on March 12th. In both cases the restaurants will donate 10% of the bill to CGFS but you must present a flyer when ordering. Check the website (www.campbellsoftball.com ) for details and copies of the flyer as we get closer to the dates. We are also looking at additional dates at other local restaurants and we are exploring other fund raising ideas. If anyone has suggestions, they can contact Michele Story at michele.story@earthlink.net .

Scholarship Donations

Campbell Crush 8U hosted the Butterfly Classic tournament this past summer. The annual tournament is held to honor the memory of Kaitlyn Sierra Langstaff who died on December 17, 2003 as a result of complications from Stevens Johnson Syndrome. Kaitlyn, who played in our league before she became ill, loved butterflies and she loved softball. 8U Crush raised money through a raffle and has donated 3 registration scholarships to CGFS in Kaitlyn’s name.
