 2012 Welcome Letter

Hello CGFS Families,

Welcome to Campbell Girls Fastpitch Softball 2012 season! We are so excited you decided to play softball at CGFS this year. Registration is about to close and it looks like each of our divisions will have a full suite of teams.  I just wanted to send you a note to give you an update on what is happening and mention a few important upcoming dates.

First ,we are in the process of getting all the players registered, the coaches lined up and the teams selected. We will have our coaches meeting on Wednesday, Feb 1st (coaches more info to follow this email). Which means our players will be hearing from their coaches on Feb 2nd & 3rd to find out what team they will be on. We will start practices the weekend of Feb 11 &12, your coach will have details when they contact you about your team. Opening day will be on Saturday, March 3rd, this will be the first day of games. Saturday, 5/19, will be closing day with our division championship games and closing ceremonies.

In the meantime please save the following two dates on your calendar, Saturday, February 4 and Saturday, February 18.

Saturday, February 4th is field clean up day. We will get started at 8 am and go until we finish (usually early afternoon). We have benches to paint, weeds to pull, trash to pick up, and plenty of other chores to keep us busy. This annual event gets the ballpark ship shape to start the season off on the right foot. All players and parents are expected to participate, it takes a village to run a softball league. Dress so you can get dirty and we usually send out for pizzas at lunch time. Please come and give a couple of hours of your time. CGFS is a volunteer run organization and this is a good opportunity to get a small taste of what is involved in turning our daughters into life-long athletes.

On Saturday, February 18th we are sponsoring an All Skills Clinic. This clinic is for all girls, old and new to the league to tune up their softball skills and learn some new ones. We will work on offensive and defensive skills. This year we have Coach Debbie Huntze and some of her team from San Jose City College doing the clinic for us. Coach Huntze recently ticked off the 500 career wins mark, she knows her stuff, is very  excited to give us the clinic, and she even started her own softball career as a player at Campbell. The clinic will start at 10 am, with check in starting at 9:30 am. Come with your gear, ready to play softball. The fees for this clinic are covered by CGFS, however the clinic is limited to the first 80 girls who register here.

We are really excited to get the season started and get the girls on the diamonds! On behalf of the CGFS Board of Directors, I want to welcome you to the 2012 season. I am looking forward to a great season!

Sincerely,

Matt O’Connor
President
