10-30-05 ACL Prevention Clinic
CGBL continues to strive to add value that provides benefits to its membership, Two seasons ago, we presented former Boston Celtics first round pick and nationally known speaker and author of, Just Let The Kids Play, Bob Bigelow. Bob discussed the value of youth sports, what is wrong with them and some solutions, like playing time distribution. We received many favorable comments from CGBL Coaches who attended.
We now have an opportunity to present an ACL Prevention clinic conducted by the Future Fitness staff that provides sports specific training. They provide fitness training for amateur, college and professional athletes.
Statistics show that 1 in 4 female athletes tear their ACL at least once in their career, with basketball and soccer being the two highest risk sports for an ACL injury. An ACL tear is a season ending knee injury and has an average recovery period of 4-6 months. The clinic will be of great value to our girls who will not only be more prepared physically, but will be educated on how an ACL injury happens, and how to minimize the risk of that injury.
The Connecticut Girls Basketball League, in which we all participate, is sponsoring this training clinic for coaches and players that will focus on the recognition of impending ACL problems and recommends player exercises that will minimize the probability of such injuries. CGBL is picking up the tab and there is no fee for attendees. Your registration fee at work.
Please mark your calendar for this clinic on Sunday, October 30 at the Glastonbury Smith Middle School Main gym from 6 to 8pm. Directions are available on our web site (posted 10-10-05)

CGBL continues to find ways to improve our web site
The CGBL is proud to continue serving league members with a web site that provides all the information that a parent, family member, coach, town coordinator, or league commissioner would ever need. Need to know the league schedule?? Regular season schedules are posted for our 6th, 7th, and 8th grade divisions complete with gym sites, directions, and game results. Each week you can check in on general news, league standings, and scheduling updates. It also serves as an excellent communication vehicle with the board and one another. Please check back regularly as we make every effort to make this web site the very best it can be. Most importantly send us snap-shots of team photo's, exciting game action clips, practice sessions, or simply a team outing on or off the court. We will be more than happy to post them for you.
