Protest Filed 9/8 Game
An official protest had been received by the League with regards to game played Monday 9/8/08 @ Crompton Park 6:30pm (Millbury@ Funky Murphy)
The protest specifically questions the ruling on penalty against Funky Murphy's in overtime play involving an illegal flag belt for touch down score and resulting penalty to offset the illegality.
Officials dissallowed the TD and penalized Funky Murphy's 15 yds from initial contact by a defender in attempting to deflag the ball carrier. Penalty effect - the ball was placed at the original scrimmage line (25yd line) with a loss of down resulting in a 2nd down at the 25yd line with 5yds. to gain a 1st down. Funky Murphy team eventually scored on the drive to defeat Millbury in the overtime.
After review of the "General All League - Official Regulations, Playing Rules & Conduct Code", the protest has been determined to be valid (see Section 6 & 7 of the Rules Section). The official penalty resulting from the illegal flag:
1. Touchdown dissallowed.
2. Player disqualified.
3. Loss of down.
4. 20yd. penalty assessed from the previous spot (original scrimmage line).
The penalty as assessed during the game may have had a direct bearing on the outcome of the game, the League has determined that as a result of the protest award, both Millbury Monsoon and Funky Murphy's will replay this possession at a convenient time and place to the league and to both teams involved. (Tentatively scheduled for Monday, Oct. 13. 8:00pm Crompton Park.)
Play will continue with Funky Murphy in possession of the ball at their own 35yd. line, 2nd down with 25 yds to make a 1st down.
