Home of the Central Jersey (Baseball) G-MEN

Welcome to the internet home of the Central Jersey Giants!

This season is the inaugural campaign for this ball club in the New Brunswick Mens' Open Baseball League.  With 16 teams competing in 2008 the league has nearly doubled in size (there were just 9 in '07) since the New Brunswick Pirates took home the crown last August.

Good luck to all our opponents this season, and let's PLAY BALL!!

LET'S GO G-MEN!!!

Shah earns Giants' first W, 5-4; Lose to Cardinals, 5-1

The G-Men picked up the first win in team history on Wednesday, defeating the Royals by a score of 5-4.  SP Akash Shah went the distance after yet another rocky first inning.  This time he was touched for 3 runs before settling in to strike out 10 batters while walking 4 and allowing just 1 run over the final 6 innings.

However, the Giants were dealt their fourth loss of the season Thursday, losing to the Cardinals 5-1.  SP Puneet Butter turned in another overall solid outing, walking only 2 batters with 6 K's.  Hats off to the Cards though; definitely a solid all-around baseball team.

There still isn't too much hitting going on yet - only 2 and 3 hits in the previous two games, respectively - but the bats will come around.

Four games scheduled this week, and the Giants look to climb back to the .500 mark.

Giants lose again, 10-8

The G-Men dropped their third straight to start the 08 season, losing 10-8 to the Jersey Cyclones at Memorial Stadium last Thursday.  Too many mistakes by the Giants in the field and on the basepaths cost them the game.

Giants SP Puneet Butter seemed as if he was being forced into playing darts on the mound, but it seemed to be a small bullseye for both pitchers.

Also, it seems as though the sticks are beginning to come around.  SS/RP Brian Mlizcek reached base all 5 times and went yard again.  Tim Stoner also had 3 hits and knocked in a pair.  2B Matt Riznik was also on the bases all night with 2 RBI.

Next one Wednesday, May 28 6:00 pm at Memorial.  Shah is on the hill for a much needed W.

Stay tuned...

Giants rally falls just short; A's get the W, 5 - 4

Following yet another night of rainouts accross the schedule on Tuesday, the Giants finally got one in Wednesday night, a make-up game from opening night against the Woodbridge A's.

A very literal game-time decision after the teams' managers worked together before the game to patch up a sloppy field was made with rain clouds moving in.  Hopefully someone drags that field soon, because it could definitely be a pretty decent field with a little TLC.   Anyway, on to the contest...

Giants' SP Akash Shah had a rocky first inning after being rushed to the mound by the umpires.  The A's scored 5 times in the top of the first with 4 hits, 3 walks, and an error.  That's all the A's would manage to get though it would prove to be enough - Shah scattered just 3 hits and 3 more walks (and broke about another half-dozen bats) over the remaining 6 innings.

The G-Men as a whole continue to struggle at the plate in the early goings.  A's SP Artie Beyer struck out 14 batters on the night.  Plain and simple, he threw strikes and we didn't hit em.  Definitely to be expected early on, and the strikeouts will certainly go down as more of the rust falls off.  Hats off the Beyer though, he got the job done.  A few bright spots though - SS Brian Mlizcek was 2 for 3 with a blast over the left field fence, and RF Jeff Totin doubled twice and knocked in 2 runs in his NBMOBB debut.  Definitely some flashes of good things to come if the puzzle pieces continue to fall into place.

The Giants take on the Jersey Cyclones Thursday, 6:00 pm at Memorial Stadium, providing the weather holds off...

Monday, May 19
No games Monday...again.

So at this rate, the G-Men and just about every other player in the NBOMBL is ready to flip out because WE JUST WANT TO (insert expletive) PLAY ALREADY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  Next one scheduled for tomorrow night, Tuesday 8:30 at Memorial Stadium where the Giants host the defending league champion New Brunswick Pirates.

Thursday, May 15
Thursday's game PPD on account of...incompetence.

So, for the second time in the first week of an overwhelmingly anticipated baseball season the G-Men's scheduled contests were rescheduled.  This time, the weather was beautiful, however my understanding is that a maintenance error caused the sprinkler system at Renaissance park to malfunction and the field was unplayable.  Raindate TBA. Stay tuned, four games on the schedule next week.  Hopefully we get to play one.

Giants fall to Rockies, 7-3

The G-Men lost on Wednesday to the visiting Somerset Rockies by a final score of 7-3. After a fugly first few innings, the Giants were simply unable to climb out of the hole they dug for themselves.

A grand total of ten errors by the Giants' defense combined with the fact that we left a small village on the bases offensively (9 total LOB) resulted, not surprisingly, in the loss.

The pitchers threw well...real well. Starter Akash Shah gave up only 4 hits and one earned run, and walked just one batter while striking out 4 Rockies in 5 innings. Puneet Butter surrendered 3 hits, 2 ER and 2 BB in two innings of relief.

Once the G-Men were able to shake off a few layers of the rust caked on their skills, they displayed a handful of promising moments. Chris Arce and Puneet Butter had 2 hits apiece, while Tim Stoner and Mike Piccirillo knocked in the Giants' 3 runs (1 and 2, respectively). The G-Men tallied 11 hits in the game, but it just wasn't enough to overcome the mistakes they made early in the game.

The G-Men take on the South Plainfield Mariners Thursday night at 6:00 at Renaissance Park in North Brunswick...

Down came the rain and washed the first game out...

Quite unfortunately, opening night of the NBMOBL was postponed due to rain.  Certainly heartbreaking for most of the Giants' players.  The contest originally scheduled for 6:00 on Mon, May 12 at Renaissance Park vs. the Woodbridge A's will now be played Wed, May 21 - same time, same place.

Our first game will now take place at 8:30 on Wed, May 14 at Thomas Edison Park where the G-MEN will host the Somerset Rockies.
