Central Carolina Scholastic Summer League announces scholarship winners

The Central Carolina Scholastic Summer League is proud to announce the recipients of its 2009 scholarship awards. Five players, each of whom is a 2009 high school graduate who has played in the league, will receive $1,000 apiece to continue their education.

Landon Talley of Knightdale High School earned the league’s highest distinction, receiving the Matt Winters Memorial Scholarship named for the former Granville Central High School shortstop who died in a swimming accident in May.  The CCSSL’s other four scholarship winners are Jacob Coggins of Western Harnett High School, Joey Grady of Pinecrest High School, Jeremy McLeod of Southern Lee High School and Cam Richards of Knightdale High School.

Scholarship winners received recommendations from their coaches and school administrators, and they wrote essays about how playing in the CCSSL impacted their overall personal development. The CCSSL Board of Directors chose the winners, basing its selections on the character and academic achievements of the student-athletes as well as their accomplishments in baseball.
