END OF YEAR AWARDS
ATHLETES OF THE YEAR
McKenzie Burkhart and Taylor Booze have been named the Athletes-of-the-Year by the Central Carolina Conference for the 2012-2013 school year.
McKENZIE BURKHART (Female Athlete-of-the-Year)
A senior at Central Davidson High School, McKenzie sports a 3.7054 GPA in the classroom along with her many athletic accomplishments. She participated in volleyball, basketball, and softball during her senior year. She was named the team's MVP for volleyball for the second year in a row along with being named to the All-CCC team for the fourth year in a row, and the CCC Player of the Year for her second consecutive year. In basketball, she was named the team's MVP for the second consecutive time, along with making the All-CCC team for the second time in a row. Softball season saw McKenzie make the All-CCC team for her second consecutive time, with more awards possibly ahead at the completion of the season. She was named to the All-District and All-State teams following her junior season. A big thanks to Gene Poindexter for providing information seen here.
TAYLOR BOOZE (Male Athlete-of-the-Year)
A senior at East Davidson High School, Taylor was named to the All-CCC team in football and basketball. He was the runner up in the Player of the Year voting in basketball.
CHARLES ENGLAND SPORTSMANSHIP AWARD
For the third consecutive year, the coaches of the CCC schools have selected West Davidson High School as the winner of the Charles England Sportsmanship Award. The Lexington Rotary Club sponsored and presented this award for the 2012-2013 school year on May 29 at a joint luncheon meeting of the Rotary Clubs of Lexington and Thomasville.
GEORGE CUSHWA EXCELLENCE IN ATHLETICS AWARD
Central Davidson High School is the winner of the 2012-2013 George Cushwa Excellence In Athletics Award for the second year in a row. The award, sponsored by the Doak Finch Foundaton and presented by the Thomasville Rotary Club on May 29, is based on the best overall performance in all Central Carolina Conference sponsored sports for each school year. Central Davidson finished ahead of West Davidson and Salisbury to earn this prestigious award by finishing first or second in 13 of the 18 conference sports.
