CENTRAL WRESTLING NEWS

 CENTRAL WRESTLING CLUB NEWSLETTER

Welcome to the Central Wrestling Club 2009-2010 Wrestling Season.

Club History:

Our Wrestling club was founded in 2004 by Mike McMichael & Scott Biddle after years of driving their kids to Winfield to be able to participate in Wrestling. It was also the start of getting Wrestling back into the Central Burden School District. In 2006, Wrestling was added at the Junior High Level and in 2008 was added at the High School Level. In the first year of High School competition, (2) Central Freshmen were Regional Champions and placed at the 321A State Level. (Ky Biddle & Tyler McMichael)

We are one of the smaller Youth Wrestling Clubs in the State, but it does not mean that we are not competitive. During Qualifying rounds at the end of the year we are always well represented.

In our brief history our Wrestling Club has qualified 45 Wrestlers for the State Championships, placing 27 of those and bring home 3 State Championships. (Kasey Biddle – 2, Tyler McMichael -1)

We also have many talented young wrestlers and anything is possible with hard work. Last year we had a first year Wrestler (Daniel Long) that won a 6 and Under Novice State Championship.

Club Dues and Tournament Entry Fees:

Wrestling can be a very expensive and time consuming event. To alleviate the financial burden, last year the Wrestling Club Board voted to pay all entry fees into tournaments for the Wrestlers. (These typically run $15 - $20 a week)

In return we ask that if you sign up for a tournament please show up, the Club will be out the money.  If negligent patterns develop we will be forced to handle entries differently.

In addition this year, the Wrestling Club Board agreed to pay for the USA Wrestling Cards for each Wrestler. Every Wrester must have one to participate and with this card there is Insurance coverage in case of injury to the Wrestler at practice or at tournaments. The cost of this card is usually $35 per Wrestler for the year.

To offset this cost we most likely will conduct a Club Fundraiser of some kind, and we are open to suggestions. One idea so far is to have a Bake Sale at a High School Basketball Game.

Tournaments:

There are tournaments scheduled almost every weekend during the year. All tournaments are optional to sign up for and not mandatory.

Also at the beginning of the year there are several Tournaments that will have a Novice Division (First and Second Year Wrestlers). The coaches will ensure that your kid is placed in the right division based in their experience.

Tournaments also bracket into several brackets based on age/weight and experience, so in most cases younger and inexperienced wrestlers will always be in a competitive bracket

Practice:

Please show up to practice in time to be ready to start on the designated time.

Wrestling also requires kids to be in shape, so there will be times when we will be doing a lot of running.

Practice is meant to be fun, but yet the wrestlers must keep quiet and listen to the coaches. We cannot have kids being disruptive in practice or it serves as a distraction for the other wrestlers. When practice starts getting disrupted the best form of discipline will be running either for individuals or the entire team.

 Coaches:

If anyone is interested in Coaching, please step forward. There will be times when we do not have enough coaches at practice or at tournaments. Additionally, Mike McMichael our head coach has a son in High School Wrestling and every Saturday he spends with the Club means he is missing watching his son Wrestle at High School Events.

To coach in tournaments you will need a background check and a coaches card. (Both paid for by the Wrestling Club)

Club T-Shirts & Hoodies:

This year as always we will be ordering Club T-Shirts and Hoodies with the Club Logo on them. We will be taking orders in the next week for any Wrestlers, Coaches, Parents or siblings that may want one. We can usually get these at a very reasonable price.
