Centerville American Little League: 2012 Season Divisions
(Ages 13-14): This division is for players who are 13-14 years of age and gives them their first opportunity to play on a 90ft diamond. They play traditional baseball with lead-offs, pick-offs, and a wider style of play. The division winner earns the opportunity to play in the District 14 Junior Tournament of Champions in the post season. Games are 7 innings and typically last 2 to 3 hours. Players at this level participate in tryouts and are drafted to a team.
Majors
(Ages 10-12): Also know as Little League Baseball, the Major Division provides players age 10 to 12 an opportunity to play a more traditional type of baseball game in our premier program with 9 players on the field and a 9-man batting order. Balls and strikes are called in this player-pitch division that features a faster pace of play. Players develop a good understanding of situational play and have the opportunity to apply all the lessons from their experiences in the instructional levels. The division winner earns the opportunity to play in the District 14 Major Tournament of Champions. Games are 6 innings and typically last 1.5 to 2.5 hours. Players at this level participate in try-outs and are drafted to a team.
Minor A
(Ages 9-11): Our Minor A level is our level of instructional baseball for players 9 through 11 years old. (8 year olds may request to try out for the Minor A level.) Preparation is focused for readying players for the Major Division. This is a player-pitch division with balls and strikes called and the continuous batting order is used. Situation play, pitching, and position development are all taught as part of this level. Scores are kept for every game and the division champion participates in the District 14 Minor Invitational Tournament in the post-season. Games are 6 innings and typically last 2-3 hours. Players in this level are encouraged to participate in try-outs and are drafted to a team.
Minor B
The next step up from T-Ball, comprised of 7 year olds, most 8 year olds, and some 9 year olds (8 and 9 year olds can play Minor A if they try-out and are drafted). This is basically an instructional league, to help the children master the basics and learn the basic rules of baseball. Some of the special rules for this league include:
* Coaches use pitching machines to pitch to players on their own team
* Each batter gets up to 7 pitches
* Inning ends after 3 outs or once through the team batting order
* No Stealing
* No official score or standings are kept
T-Ball
(Ages 4-7): This is an introductory instructional division developed primarily for young players and those just learning the fundamentals. Rather than using the pitched ball, T-Ball utilizes an adjustable batting stand or "tee" from which the ball is hit. Players are introduced to the concepts of teamwork and the fundamental skills of the game. All players play every inning and everyone bats each inning. Games are 4 innings and typically last 70 to 90 minutes. No scores or standings are kept in this division.
