The Old Boys Game and Old Boys day is scheduled for Saturday 3rd October and will comprised a number of presentations and Hall of Fame entry. The day is a great opportunity for all to get together and meet up irrespective of whether people are playing or not. So please get onto your old teammates and lets make this the biggest Old Boys Day yet. The Hall of Fame Nominations are now open and will close on the 18th September so please get them in!

A message from Captain Too Tallup
Hello all,

The 2007/8 Celtics were a pretty solid all round team, and in order to do ourselves justice in October and take the 'Bowl score to 3-1 it's time to organise our pre match get-together.

The intention is to have an unkitted run through with as many as possible of the team on Saturday 6th September in Leeds. In order to allow travel from I'm proposing a start time of 1pm with training to run for a couple of hours. Venue will be Hyde Park as usual. As is customary this will be followed by some form of evening entertainment.

Please confirm if you can make it, sending your mobile number for contact purposes if possible.

If you need cheap accommodation I'd suggest finding 2 friends and staying here:

Its OK, close to the town centre and £35 for 3 people. Travelodge down by the Station is £60 for 2.

Squad:

Yallup and Gornall to Skipper Celtic Bowl IV
Hyth

Ross Yallup has been confirmed as Oldboys Captain 2008 to take on the 07/08 Celtics of Matt Gornall. The game is to be played on the 4th October 2008.

The series currently stands at 2-1 to the Oldboys after their 'get out of jail free' victory last year. Despite losing virtually every statistical catergory, Nik Brown's team pulled out a 12-6 victory to reclaim the Karl Bourne Memorial Shield.

The game will be the centre piece of the Old Boys day also to include the evening event and the announcement of the next three Hall of Fame inductees. Please check out the Hall of Fame Section to see the bios and comments of the 2007 inductees.

Last year saw the first 'Featured Team' with Jim Rawstron's excellent presentation on the 1990 team. This year we will look back on the 1996 Collegebowl winning team.

We want to make this year bigger than ever before so please get in touch with ex-team mates (especially the 1996 team) and get people involved.

The Ball Gets Rolling
2
Big Match Up
With the all time series tied at one a-piece the countdown has started to the third Celtic Bowl. This years Celtexs team will be captained by Nik Brown. Nik covered every inch of the Celtics field as part of a Championship winning line with a legendary scattering of yellow flags in his wake. For the Celtics Hugh Morgan will lead the team out one last time in his third Old Boys game and final season. The Old Boys Day is set for Saturday 29th September.

This years event will include a more organised evening event including the launch of an official Hall of Fame. More details to follow.

Come on you Old bastards..........beat the young pretenders!

And for any of the opposition that might be reading this, I leave you with these words once uttered by a wise old sage:

"Old age and treachery will overcome youth and skill, every time."

Ref's Announced
This years old boys game will be reffereed by an experienced crew to keep an eye on things. Ex-Head Coach Rich Handby returns from last year and will be joined by Yorkshire Rams' Craig Waite. Ex-captain and trained killer Andy Newson will act as line judge. And finally machete wielding, retired head Coach Orlando Weekes will round up the crew. This no nonsense crew will be sure to keep a close eye on the game so messers Brown, Morgan, Stevens, Robezniks and Prewitt beware!

2006 Old Boys Game.
On September 30th this year two worlds will collide at The Graveyard, Lawnswood Field as the Leeds University Celtics Old Boys, the 'Celtexs' take on the 05/06 Celtics. Following on from last years hugely successful game both teams will be desperate to grab both the bragging rights and the Karl Bourne Memorial Shield for the coming year.

The 05/06 team are looking to avenge last years defeat where they went down 20-14. Ironically enough that turned out to be the only game the Celtics lost on their home field all year as the marched to the playoffs. Now departing captain Ed Morgan is bringing his team back together for a final appearance in the Black and Green. The Celtexs this year are captained by Phil Green. Offensive lineman Phil was a member of the original Celtics team and continues to play senior league football today.

The game will kick off at 1pm on Lawnswood Field. We hope that as many ex-players as possible will be able to make it down for the day, if not to play then to see old faces and watch a good game of football.

Further details will be announced over the next couple of weeks.

FIGHT ON!
