BSA Celtic Premier Claim the Finalists Trophy at the Elite Invitational

Hi5-2007.jpg

The BSA Celtic Premier captured the Finalists trophy at the Elite Invitational the weekend of 26-27 April, 2008. The BSA Celtic Premier faced WAZA FC Blue from Livonia, MI. in the initial fixture of the tournament. The first half saw WAZA score first to take a 1-0 lead. The BSA Celtic Premier would tie the match just before half time off a direct kick. Aided by a strong wind in the second half, WAZA FC Blue was able to add two additional goals to send the BSA Celtic Premier to defeat 3-1.

The BSA Celtic Premier started slow in the second game Saturday against Beechmont SC. The BSA Celtic Premier would eventually find their form and win 6-0.

It what amounted to a must win game, the BSA Celtic Premier faced Cincinnati West Wildfire on Sunday morning. The BSA Celtic Premier came out in the initial minutes of the game and produced multiple chances. However, the BSA Celtic Premier would not find the back of the net. The defense held the opponents hemmed in their own end for the majority of the half and the BSA Celtic Premier were eventually able to capitalize and net 2 goals before half time. The BSA Celtic Premier controlled the game and would add a third goal in the second half for a 3-0 win and a place in the finals.

Once again the BSA Celtic Premier would face CUSA Courage 95 Premier in the finals. Two quick goals in the first half were all that CUSA would need as the BSA Celtic Premier found scoring opportunities limited.

Congratulations to the girls on the initial tournament endeavor of the Spring 2008 season.

Goalrilla Champions

2007Goalrilla.jpg

The BSA Celtic Premier claimed the champions trophy at the Goalrilla Classic tournament the weekend of 20-21 October, 2007. For the second consecutive weekend the team earned their way into the finals and would earn champions honors with four straight clean sheets.

Group play began on Saturday morning against tournament host Cincinnati West Wildfire. The BSA Celtic Premier would take a 2-0 lead into the half on rebounds after crosses could not be controlled by the opposing keeper. The BSA Celtic Premier would add an additional goal in the second half to close out the scoring. The final minute of play would see the best scoring chance against the BSA Celtic all tournament when Cincinnati West placed a shot off the far post that the Celtic defense was able to clear.

The second game of group play matched the BSA Celtic Premier against Beechmont SC United. After numerous corners were placed in the mix, the BSA Celtic Premier were able to place the ball in the net to take a 1-0 lead. The BSA Celtic would add a second goal prior to half time. A third goal was added in the second half on a drive between the keeper and the near post from the 18. Although the BSA Celtic played uninspired soccer, they were able to control the game throughout, and would add an additional goal for a 4-0 result.

The last game of group play saw the BSA Celtic Premier deliver an impressive offensive scoring attack and stifling defense against Classics Hammer Royal. The speed and skill of the BSA Celtic Premier delivered three goals ten minutes in and provided the opportunity for various personnel formations. Two goals were added in the second half to bring the number of goals for in group play to 12 against 0 conceded.

The MTSC Blue Streak contested the final game against the BSA Celtic Premier. For the first 15 minutes, and aided by a strong wind, the MTSC offense pressured the BSA Celtic. However, the defense stood steadfast and prevented the Blue Streak from finding the net. The BSA Celtic Premier would strike first mid way through the half when a ball in the mix was run in. The BSA Celtic would continue to control the remainder of the fixture and would score a final goal on a counterattack at fulltime after the Blue Streak brought all forward for a final attack.

Congratulations to the girls and coaches on their championship!

HiFive Cincy Challenge Finalists

Hi5-2007.jpg

The BSA Celtic Premier captured the finalists trophy at the HiFive Cincy Challenge over the weekend of 13-14 October, 2007. The BSA Celtic Premier opened the tournament against Revolution Select from Buffalo Grove, IL. The third ranked team in Illinois, 40th in the country, controlled the ball for the first 10 minutes of the game. The BSA Celtic Premier stepped up their play and was able to take control of the game for the remainder of the half. Neither team however were able to score and the half ended 0-0. No scoring occurred in the second half between the evenly matched teams until midway through. Revolution Select was awarded a penalty kick after the BSA Celtic Premier was called for a foul in their own penalty area. Revolution Select was able to convert the penalty kick just past the diving Celtic keeper for the game winner, 1-0.

The BSA Celtic Premier met NK United 95 Blue (KY) in their second fixture. The BSA Celtic Premier controlled the majority of the game and took a 3-1 lead into the half on the strength of crisp, acccurate crosses and well struck finishes outside the reach of the opposing keeper. Each team added a goal in the second half for the final result in favor of the BSA Celtic Premier, 4-2. The win placed the BSA Celtic Premier in the semi-final game against Worthington United Blue (OH).

The BSA Celtic Premier dominated play throughout the semi-final game and took a 1-0 lead into halftime when their two strikers combined on a nice one-touch pass and composed breakaway goal. The BSA Celtic Premier was unable to extend their lead after numerous scoring chances failed, multiple goals were called back, and aggressive play by the opposing keeper kept the ball out of the net. The 1-0 win propelled the BSA Celtic Premier into the finals against tournament host Warren County United 95 Blue (OH).

The beginning of the finals saw the tournament host apply continued pressure on the BSA Celtic Premier defense. The defense withstood the Warren County attacks and the BSA Celtic Premier was able to score on a determined breakaway goal as one of the BSA Celtic Premier strikers beat two defenders and the keeper. The goal energized the undermanned BSA Celtic Premier as they controlled the remainder of the half and into the second. Warren County would find the equalizer 8 minutes from time as the rotation of only two BSA Celtic Premier substitutes began to show signs of fatigue on the girls. Warren County would score the game winner 2 minutes later to take the championship 2-1.

Congratulations to all the girls for their outstanding performance, energy and heart.

The BSA Celtic 95 Premier claimed the Finalists trophy in the 2007 Arsenal Challenge Cup U12 Gold Division. The girls began group play Saturday morning with a well played and close game against KFC Outlaws Blue from Knoxville, Tennessee. No score was posted for the majority of the game until near the end of regulation when the BSA Celtic 95 Premier found the back of the net off a restart to claim a 1-0 victory over the number 3 ranked team in Tennessee. Saturday afternoon saw the girls start strong with two goals in the first ten minutes of the game against NK United Red 95 (Kentucky) and an eventual 4-0 win.

Sunday morning pitted the girls against LUSC Premier, against whom they had not faired well in the past. After weathering attacks in the initial minutes of the game, the BSA Celtic 95 Premier settled down and was able to score midway through the first half to take a 1-0 lead. The girls added another goal in the second half before LUSC Premier scored to cut the deficit to 1. The BSA Celtic 95 Premier were able to stave off LUSC Premier’s spirited attack in the final minutes to win 2-1 and advance to the finals against cross town opponent CUSA Courage 95 Premier.

The initial minutes of the finals began with each team unable to mount any serious scoring chances. The pace of play picked up but neither team was able to score and the half ended 0-0. The BSA Celtic 95 Premier ended the tie with a goal in the second half only to see CUSA get the equalizer. Regulation ended in a 1-1 tie and neither team was able to score in either 5 minute overtime period. The BSA Celtic 95 Premier fell in penalty kicks 2-3.

In the second half, the Celtic 95 continued to hold the edge in possession and broke through to take a 1-0 lead about midway through the second half. With the game winding down, OP White was able to find the equalizer and the game moved to overtime. The second half saw the Celtic 95 continue to pressure the goal but unable to finish with several shots just missing the goal. PASA added two more goals later in the half until the Celtic 95 broke through with a late score to swing the momentum. Time ran out on the effort and the Celtic 95 fell 3-1.
