Cedar Creek Eagles: Eagle Golf & Tennis
Golf News: 1/14/11 Yesterday was very cold. The temperature never rose above 40. The boys were very uncomfortable during their "warm-up" at 7:30 in the morning. There was much complaining. So what did they do? How did they play? All five of the boys who have previous tournament experience this year (Jared, Jerrett, Nathan, Conner, and Zach) shot their best round so far. The two new members (James and Gerald) also had impressive scores for two new freshmen. How did we do as a team? Our team score (best four of five) was under 500 for the first time this year. Not only was it below 500, but the 403 almost broke into the 300's. As a result of the improved scores, the Cedar Creek Boys' Golf Team finished 4th in the tournament, only 4 strokes from a trophy and medals. Jared Shaw tied for third place as a low scoring individual. Congratualtions to the boys. Our new outerwear worked well. Our next scheduled event will a girls event in Comfort, Texas at the Buckhorn Golf Club (2+ hour drive). The boys play again on February 7, at the Lakeway Golf Complex in the Lake Travis High School JV tournament, while the girls travel to Kerville on the same February 7. The next event will be a mixed event in San Marcos on February 21. This will be a two person scramble. Our next practice will be next Tuesday after a three day weekend. I hope the weather breaks and all get to play some golf this weekend. All team players get on for free at Wolfdancer and an accompaning parent can play for $25 plus tax. Please call for confirmation of available space first (308-4770). December 2010: The boys’ golf team has participated in three tournaments during the month of November. On November 2, they traveled to the Lost Pines Golf Course to participate in the Bastrop High School JV tournament. The team finished just a few strokes out of third place, and sophomore Jared Shaw played to a third place medalist finish. On November 3, the team traveled to the Pflugerville Connally tournament held at Blackhawk Golf Club. All five players walked all 18 holes in cold, windy, and wet conditions. All five players improved their scores from the previous day, but against stronger, more experienced competition, did not finish as well as they would have liked to. The highlight of the fall season concluded November 15, when the boys hosted their own tournament at the Wolfdancer Golf Club located at the Hyatt Regency Lost Pines Resort. The event attracted several district opponents and also two-time defending Texas state champion Westlake High school. The team from Austin High School finished third, Bastrop High School finished second, and the Westlake team finished first. The golf program at Cedar Creek High School is looking forward to the spring season when the girls get to kick off their first competitive season for the Eagles. Currently there are seven boy players and three girl players. Stay tuned for updates. SUPPORT THE CEDAR CREEK ATHLETIC DEPARTMENT AND BUY MUGS.
