The Pause to Refresh !

Now that we've wrapped up a very nice season in DELCO, it's time to reflect and then look forward. First, the reflection :1) The Rowdies are very, very good..when they want to be AND The Rowdies are easily dissuaded from wanting to be. 2) An 8 game win streak overcoming some reasonable hurdles, getting to the top of the table after an uninspiring start showed that there are a bunch of kids with allot of heart.3) We brought onboard four good kids and four really nice families and never missed a beat, a testimony to the Rowdiemommas 4) We are not technically proficient as a team, some of the kids who are more physical are able to overcome that and contribute, but, it's really holding others back from playing a bigger role. 5) We are only going to get better tactically by increasing our level of competition and technically by picking up our training intensity. 6) Some boys need to spend a bit of the break with a ball @ their feet instead of a controller in their hand. Now : a look @ the Spring. PROBLEM: We just simply can't play MASL anymore, we can't get better playing against those teams week in and week out. SOLUTION:  play in the MAPS league out of south jersey. WHY ? we'll get all the competition we can handle in their top division, which will help us stay on the upswing. We'll actually get some Sunday home games and the road trips won't require an overnight stay on the Blue Water Tours Wonder Bus. (a/b 90min max each way) MAPS will use neutral site games to avoid those memory makers. We need an early season tournament to get us kick started, again with level of competition as the key, then jump into MAPS and prepare for another run @ State Cup...Until then, eat that free range turkey, shoot a little hoops and have a great holiday season...cut Santa a break if he doesn't bring everything on your list...you can't have everything...or there'd be nothing to work for.

Top 10 Reasons to Coach Youth Soccer...
10. To get the chance to fend off a volenteer AR, who is not only a rules expert, but, a former UFC champion. 9. To spend Sunday night designing training sessions while cleaning the 4 major fast food groups out of your SUV. 8. To master the concept of the offside law. 7. To explain the concept of the offside law to officials 6. To drive to new parts of the country, meet new and interesting people...and get screwed by them. 5. To explain to parents that they have several years to wait until little Ricky is Ronaldinho. 4. The love, respect and adulation of your fellow coaches. 3. To watch the players you've spent countless hours training, totally ignore everything you've ever said. 2. To watch a team up 5 goals lose their minds @ being called 10yds offside...And the #1 Reason to coach youth soccer....THE MONEY. A little tongue in cheek, the truth is: what would you do without it? golf, fish ...both just as frustrating and alot more expensive. The lessons learned on that pitch are invalueable, we learned we are as good as anyone in our division...and consequently as bad. We have met the enemy and he is us. The only team we've played this year that we need to be scared of....IS US. Teams don't score on 4 corners in a season much less a half....good thing we covered that in our pre-match work. We are going to be as good as we will let ourselves be, the physical mistakes we can cope with, it's the same mental mistakes that kill, over and over. Oh well, live to fight another day, there's got to be something left we haven't seen.
