CDO Soccer Club - Perspective!
Training Options - Who coaches the teams?
CDO Soccer Club offers a full range of coaching options, from enthusiastic volunteers seeking to learn more about the game through our in house initiatives, to professional trainers with advanced licensing and playing experience. All options are open to all teams, so professional instruction is not just for a select group of players - prior to the season, teams can opt for professional help if they wish and at a realistic price.
A big part of CDO is coach education, working with all coaches seeking to expand their knowledge of the game and help give back more to the local soccer community. CDO has licensed over forty volunteer coaches in the past two years, more than any other club in Arizona.
Philosophy
Simply put, we try very hard to keep youth soccer in perspective. The center of all of our coaching is the understanding that every player and each team is different. Some players and teams are seeking to play at a more competitive level, other just want to play, learn and enjoy the game of soccer!
We evaluate the needs of all CDO players and work with everyone to reach their personal goals within the sport. We have had numerous players go on and play at a high standard, as well as have players start with CDO as young children and remain with the club all the way through high school graduation.
We do not make promises of college scholarships and winning all of our games, because we cannot do that in the same way no other club can. We do promise that we will strive to provide the right environment for all of our players, and help everyone find the right path to their future in the sport.
Coaching Methods
First and foremost, we look to develop a love for the game of soccer in players, and teach the principles of soccer as well as those of fair play. Each team is challenged based upon their level of ability and objectives within the game - some are seeking more of a recreational experience, others want to challenge amongst the best in the city and the state.
This is done by coaching each topic in blocks of time, the same way subjects are taught in school. It would be easy to work on the things that did not go well in the previous game, but to have continuous learning and to help children retain the information more easily, we encourage coaching sessions that build on from each other.
By setting performance goals, we can measure how much players have learned far more easily than by simply looking at the score. It is possible to lose a game 2-0 and have played very well defensively - if both goals were well created or pieces of excellent individual skill for example. There may have been 20-30 occasions where the players and team defended successully, so our measure is through reaching our performance goals, not simply the outcome of the game. This helps players put outcomes into perspective, in that much as we want to win games, our performance is the key factor.
