Ram's Sweep of Herd forces three way tie for 2nd in the Commonwealth
ashley
Ashley Johnston (Sr, MH) had her best night as a Ram vs. Carlisle 10-20-09

Central Dauphin High School Tuesday October 20th-  Both teams knew what was on the line last night.  The Herd was coming off of a come from behind 5 set win at Chambersburg last week and could lock up 2nd place with a win over CD.  The Rams could force a three way tie with Carlisle and Chambersburg with a win over the Herd and continue their climb up the Mid Penn Commonwealth division under Coach JB.  In 2007 the Rams were 4th, 2008 3rd and the goal of reaching 2nd was within reach last night.

Both squads didn't disappoint with a back and forth match that saw the Rams get the final two points in games one and two and blow our the Herd in game three for the sweep.  CD started out slow in game one falling behind 2-8 before a time out was called to refocus the group.  CD clawed their way back into the game and found themselves tied at 23-23.  "I was already working on the game two line up thinking we had lost game one when we really started to hit every single play" said Coach JB.  "It was nice to see the team finally come together and play for each other".

Game three saw the Rams open up a big lead and never let the Herd into the game.  Match point was scored on a Krysta Hetzel back slide for a kill and the Rams had forced the three way tie.

Several Rams had their best match of the season when it was needed the most.  Kiersten Bricker (Jr, OPP) stepped up with her best effort chipping in 5 kills and two aces on the evening.  Allie Donahue (So, S) is getting over her cold and her play continues to improve with a 5 kills, 4 ace, 3 block night for the Rams.  Melissa Dorsey (Sr, OH) playing in her final home match as a Ram posted an impressive .578% hitting last night with 11 kills, no errors on 19 attempts.  "I would not want to play us right now" said Coach JB after the match.  "We are getting back Melissa Dorsey who I thought could have been the MVP of the Commonwealth divisioin this year if she was healthy.  We are clicking together and we are going to be a tough out for whoever we run into at Mid Penns".

CD returns to action on Thursday to finish the regular season at CD East, jv match at 6.  The varsity squad then heads west to North Allegheny for a big varsity tournament on Saturday.
