  Skill Builder

Thursday, April 30

 Program Description (Skill Builder):

Each class will meet twice a week for 1 hour. All sessions are at North Side Elementary School. Sessions are taught by parent volunteers. We have developed a "manual" to serve as a framework for what is being taught, but the coaches have flexibility in how they want to achieve those goals. Each class is limited to no more that 20 students (usually 15-18)

We will TRY to honor requests for certain days, BUT we must balance the classes, and can NOT guarantee any specific placement. Sessions will be at 6PM for Kindergarten, and at either 6PM or 7:15PM for 1st and 2nd grades. Kindergarten is co-ed. 1st and 2nd grades have separate girls and boys classes. Classes are on either Mon & Wed   OR   Tues & Thurs. We reserve Fridays as make-up days if school is closed or cancelled due to snow.

  • Every child receives a CDABA shirt to wear during their skill building classes.
  • The season runs for 10 weeks. Anticipated dates for 2009-10 are:
  • Nov 23th - Dec 23th : first 4 weeks of skill building sessions
  • Jan 5th - Feb 12th : remaining 6 weeks of skill building sessions
  • Pizza Party/Awards Night: Tuesday, Feb 16th, 2010 from 6-8pm (all registered children receive a medallion for participation).

 General Information:

Enter and Exit Northside Elementary ONLY from doors to gym (West side of the school).  Do not open any other doors for ANYONE.  There are security cameras in various locations throughout the school for monitoring purposes.  Anyone violating this request will be suspended from the basketball program.

We need to keep our children safe!

  1. We will expect parent participation in practices to give our children the support needed for an exceptional basketball experience.  We do understand that there are some parents that will be unable to help, but ask that those who are able to assist will happily volunteer.
  2. Please keep in contact with your child’s coach and let him / her know if your child will miss a practice.  Our goal is effective communication between parents and coaches to better serve our children.
  3. If you bring siblings of players to the practice, please know that you are expected to keep these children within your arms reach AT ALL TIMES.
  4. Any damage that your child does to the school, YOU will be responsible for restitution.
  5. Our practices are scheduled Monday – Thursday; therefore, if there is a school closing or schedule conflict, we are able to use the Friday of that week for make-up practice or game.
  6. The Skill Builder Program is very unique in that we are developing the student athlete.  Please instill in your child the correct priorities…HOMEWORK COMES FIRST!  Participating in sports is a privilege that comes with responsibilities.
  7. We are looking forward to a fun and rewarding basketball experience with your children.  Thank you for choosing CDABA and if you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Skill Builder Coordinator immediately so that we may work together to resolve any issues.
