We played hard today and just came up short, a little short. I don't know how Coach John does it by manufacturing touchdowns, but he sure does. On defense we need to just do our jobs by getting to our point, tackling and wrapping. We played a good team today and needed a little more time to score. We are half way through the season and 2-2, we either have to kick it in gear or else we will be watching in November instead of playing.

We are turning into a real football team before your eyes. We dominated in all phases of the game today. As far as my special little play, let me say that the third time is a charm and changes the karma of the whole game. We did not have the mental penalties that we had last week. We do need to work on holding though and make sure we have our hands inside the frame of the opponents’ body. Mothers, please hug your players’ a lot this week so they think that they do not need to hold others. We wound up on the long end of the turnover battle and that sure makes the field position battle good from our stand point. Our backs ran hard today. I was afraid, I was going to have to change Colton's name to “twinkle toes”, the way he danced down the sideline. Firing out quickly worked again this week, good things happen when we play low and block. I am so proud of your sons and you need to be too. Great Game!!!!

Jaguars 13 - Tigers 0!!!!
Let me start by saying we are turning the corner to becoming a real football team. Yesterday's(09/19/09) win was unbelievable from my viewpoint. I am so proud of the players, they were outstanding.
When I first got our schedule, I had penciled in the Tigers game as a loss. Two years ago when we were lightning, the Tigers were league champs and when we played them, their offense went thru us like a hot knife through butter. However, our offense was able to move the ball on them and score and keep the ball out of their hands on long drives, but could not keep up with the points the defense was giving away. This should be the comparable team as they are now 4th and 5th graders. Last year we played Battleground for the championship and beat them, yesterday's coaching staff for the Tigers were that same staff that we played last year and I know they wanted revenge so after our first game performance I figured we were toast.
We controlled every element of the game yesterday. We blocked and we tackled. We ran the ball. We created turnovers. We penetrated on defense. "Fire Out Quickly" does work.
Not Such a Great Start... but Promising

I think we can all say that the playing that was demonstrated today versus the Jamboree was worlds apart. We have come a long way, but we still have a long way to go. Some of the players still look like a deer in the headlights of an oncoming 60 mile an hour Semi. We lost the ball 3 times today on just lack of ball security. On both offense and defense we have players just standing up and watching instead of blocking or penetrating. We will work on this in the coming week on blocking and firing out. Mr. Fence may become some player’s best friend this next week. I am not sure if you could observe it from the stands, but we have a real problem with substitutions. Players entering the game are coming in for the wrong player or some players are just leaving the field without being replaced. That is a coaching problem and I will ask Coach Rick this coming week to please be in charge of all substitutions on both offense and defense. Our goal on defense today was to obtain a turnover, we did not reach the goal today, but it will come. Some players played their hearts out, but it takes all 11 guys doing the right thing on each play. We will get better. We did drive the ball 3 good runs today but fell short.
