Fall 2001 - Undefeated Champions...Again.
trophy.gif
Coming off the second place finish in the Spring and the Final 4 showing in the tournament, the FORCE looked to play fall ball in an "open" division and come away with the league title. Heather and Mike took the fall season off, so some new and old faces joined the team. John came aboard from the Don Beyer Volvo Men's team and was a big contribution. Julie came back for this season and helped the team greatly. And Ashley, in her one night splendor, was impressive in her debut and a "contract" will be extended for Spring 2002. The team "gelled" right from the beginning of the season and rolled through the schedule in undefeated and impressive fashion. The "bare-bones" lineup sweep of RAS Vice Squad showed a lot character and the "ass-kicking" romp over Cap City was a clear indication of the team's grit, fight, and talent. The women were dazzling and strong and the guys displayed the "zoom-n-boom" throughout the season. The average margin of victory, including the forfeit wins, was a 17-4 differential. With this re-newed chemistry and the return of Heather and Mike in 2002, the Spring has the makings to be a very "sweet" season. (And keep in mind...its Thursday gamedays in the Spring). Congratulations to everyone.

The 2001 Spring Season started with 3 straight weeks of "splits". Week 4 saw "Wins by Forfeit" and then Stefani joined us in Week 5. Was it just coincidence that the team then rolled off 6 straight wins, closing the season with just one loss in the last 8 games? A big late season addition to the team was Don, who helped us greatly in the outfield and at the plate. The Force rolled to a second place league trophy...keeping the consecutive trophy streak alive. The "Final 4" appearance in the tournament was nothing compared to last spring's triumph, but the team still made great improvements and had a good time trying to duplicate the "run" of 2000. Look out in the Fall!!!

Fall 2000 - The Dance Continues...

Carrying momemtum still left over from the Spring Tourney, the team rolled through the Fall 2000 season, finishing with an impressive 16-2-0 record. With it, capturing yet another "B" League title...(No Fall Tournament).

Mark joined the team in the fall and immediately helped us out with his bat, fielding, and even some pitching in the last game. And yes, my head is much better. We wished Bob well in his tour of duty overseas. His leadership will be missed. Shari and Mark had their own "dancing" going on as they tied the "knot" during the season.

The fall season also saw a parade of white as we donned the new jerseys. It was great to christen the new "duds" with the league trophy.

In what was supposed to be a rebuilding season with new faces and losses of key players, the Spring of 2000 turned out to be a "SWEET" Cinderella season. Ask Glen how "sweet" it was... Gone were the likes of Alex, Pete, Dennis, Julie, and Veronica. And to fill those voids; Bob, Brad, Mike, Lisa, and Monica were added to the roster.

There was to be no regular season trophy this time around. The regular season ended in a fifth place finish with a 9-8-1 record. As the number 5 seed in the tournament, the CCSP-Force turned it all around and beat the #4 seed-CCSP KLong, the #1 seed-Wild Dogs, the #2 seed-CCSP Posse in the winners bracket final, and the Posse again in the championship game. All games were come from behind victories against teams that had swept the regular season meetings. Call it the Revenge Tour. It was the best timing for a surprising turnaround.

We all will remember those 2 "Sweet" days. Cinderella danced well past midnight...

Playin' Together, Stayin' Together - (Spring 96 - Fall 2000)

In the Spring of 1996, Shari Hall and Bob Perry got together and organized a softball team made up of defectors from a USAir softball team, a select few from SatoTravel, and some other people that someone knew could play. They all donned the kelly green "Crystal City Sports Pub" shirts and played their first season together as CCSP-Hall in Arlington County. They proceeded to win the Class "C" tournament championship that year. And in every year since, the team has won a championship in either the spring or fall seasons or both.

In 1998, the green jerseys were downgraded to car washing material as the Pub handed out the new gray and black jerseys. Jersey color didn't matter as the team continued it's winning ways by capturing the "C" league and tournament titles in the spring of 1998, a "B" season title in the fall, an undefeated "C" regular season title and tournament championship in the spring of 1999, and another fall season championship to follow in our permanent move up to Division 1 - Class "B".

In what would be the last season in the gray-n-black "three quarters", CCSP-Hall saw its biggest change in players in the spring of 2000. The season was one of rebuilding and "gelling" and although the regular season title went to another team, something "clicked" come tournament time. And in what was an unbelievable 2 days, CCSP-Hall captured the tournament title in come back victories in each of the 4 games played.

Riding an incredible "high" into the fall 2000 season, the team got trendy and spent the big bucks for the new white sleeveless uniforms, but kept the gray and black colors in the new logo. Also in the fall, our beloved Shari Hall got married and with that, the team name was changed to CCSP Force. Not only did Shari get Mark, but the softball team did as well---what a bonus!!!

And now it's 2001 and the new season awaits with the additions of Liz, Stefani, and Keith to the roster. And in going into our 6th year, another constant has been the fun that we have all had and the camaraderie that is shared with everyone. We've won and lost with grace, and always with respect for each other. There may never be another trophy, but we'll surely work hard as hell to get another one and we'll always have fun trying!!!
