CBA upsets Bethlehem in Sectionals



John Bassett had two goals, including the game-winner, to lead 5th-seeded CBA to an upset over 4th-seed Bethlehem 4-2 in the CDHSHL quarterfinals at Bethlehem.
Dean McMahon had two assists and Dakota Smith stopped 31 shots for the Brothers.

LAKE GEORGE -- Down by one goal heading into the third period, Queensbury's Kyle Fitscher scored off a Kade Kirby assist to tie things up, but CBA's Evan Van Epps scored the eventual game winner off a John Bassett pass.
Dakota Smith had 34 saves for CBA. Dean McMahon had the first goal for CBA on assists from Van Epps and Bassett.

Big week for CBA hockey

CBA Brothers won the last two Capital District High School Hockey League games in thrilling style.

Evan Van Epps scored at 3:10 of overtime to lift visiting CBA past Glens Falls 2-1 in a Capital District High School Hockey League game on Thursday night. The Brothers (5-6-1, 5-3) took a 1-0 lead on Dean McMahon's goal 1:16 into the third period. The Indians (6-5-2, 3-2) came back to tie the score at 1 on Matt Girard's tally 1:32 later. Kyle Stockman had 35 saves for CBA and Tyler Mello stopped 15 shots for Glens Falls.

On Saturday night, the Brothers played a solid game with contributions from many players.

Kyle Stockman finished with 25 saves for the Brothers.

The Brothers extended their winning streak to 3 games with a 2-1 victory over Burnt Hills Friday at the Albany County Hockey facility. CBA wins Times Union Center game vs Guilderland

In the first of two high school hockey events at the Times Union Center this year, CBA on Saturday defeated Guilderland/Mohonasen 6-4.

Evan Van Epps had two goals and an assist and defenseman John Bassett had two goals to lead CBA. Andrew Mundweiler of Guilderland/Mohonasen had 2 goals and an assist.

The game was held prior to the Albany Devils hockey game against Springfield.

“We are here to win games, and we also want to give back to the community,” said Christopher Ciceri, Albany Devils’ CEO, about the high school games.

Wilgocki honored at Section II finals
 

David Wilgocki, pictured with mom Valerie and coach Jason Tapp, was honored during pre-game ceremonies at the Section II finals Thursday night. He was named to the 3rd team of the Capital District High School Hockey League. David also was awarded his trophy for being the Most Valuable Player of the Lake Placid tournament. Saratoga won the game 3-2, which was reflected in our Web site poll where our intelligent hockey fans predicted Saratoga would win over Shen by a 2 to 1 margin. 

Congratulations to Steve Basile, Evan VanEpps, John Bassett and Ted Meybaum for receiving Honorable Mention for Section II.

Volunteer awards

 

 

 

Players in their dress blues were honored at the annual hockey banquet Wednesday, March 16.

Each player was presented with a plaque and a copy of the team video. Seniors were honored and awards were given out:

Congratulations to team mom Val Wilgocki and Booster Club President Carm Basile for earning volunteer awards. Val earned the Neil O'Connor Award. This award is presented to a volunteer who has over time shown a commitment through service to the CBA Hockey program. This individual has worked quietly and tirelessly on behalf of the program, expecting nothing in return. Carn also earned a volunteer special appreciation award, which is presented to an individual who has given special efforts to the CBA hockey team.

Paul Lovejoy Memorial Award: Ted Meybaum

This award is in memory of Paul Lovejoy, Class of 1971. This annual award is bestowed to a varsity hockey player at CBA who has made an outstanding contribution to the hockey team.

Most Improved Player Award: Cody Greenwald

This annual award is made to the varsity hockey player at CBA who has worked to improve his playing ability through the course of the season while maintaining his commitment to the team.

Most Valuable Player Award: Steve Basile

This annual award is made to the varsity hockey player at CBA who has meant the most to the team. This is a well-rounded player-person who sets the highest example through his attitude and ability.

Dennis Patrick Murphy Award: Evan VanEpps

Dennis Murphy is the founder of the Christian Brothers Academy Hockey Program. This annual award is given to the varsity hockey player at CBA who demonstrating the same level of dedication and commitment to his team, school and family that Dennis Patrick Murphy showed to all of us.

Coaches Award: Casey Hladik

This award is presented to the varsity hockey player at CBA who has earned special recognition from the coaching staff for dedication and commitment to the team

NYSPHSAA Honor

On October 6th, the New York State Public High School Athletic Association will designate Christian Brothers Academy as a Scholar/Athlete School of Distinction. During 2009-2010, every CBA varsity athletic team earned a GPA of 90 or better during their season. Of the 775 participating schools in the state, only nine achieved this distinction last year.

Brothers Sweep North Country - WIn Canton Golden Bears Tournament

CBA were the winners of the Canton Ice Hockey Tournament on 12/10 & 12/11 beating Posdam 4-1 and Canton 3-0.  Good job Brothers!!
