T.J. Gray

T.J. Gray has been selected as this week's Gary Edwards Country Financial Basketball Player of the Week. The award alternates each week between the Carlinville boys and girls' basketball teams.

Gray, a 6-foot-2 senior forward, has been the “sixth” man for the Cavies all season providing a spark off the bench with his defense and rebounding. Gray had 6 points and 5 rebounds in Carlinville's 55-50 Regional win over Hillsboro. He has played in 28 games this season and is averaging 6.6 points and 6.7 rebounds along with 1.5 steals per game.

“T.J. made several big plays at the Regional on both the defensive end and offensive end,” Carlinville head coach Alan Cooper said. “He had a big three-point play in our comeback win against Southwestern. He has given a refuse to lose effort that has sparked our team's effort all year.”

Barry Stewart

Barry Stewart has been selected as this week's Gary Edwards Country Financial Basketball Player of the Week. The award alternates each week between the Carlinville boys and girls' basketball teams.

Stewart, a 6-foot senior guard, helped the Cavaliers to a runner-up finish at the Macoupin County Tournament. He scored a career-high 25 points in a 66-47 win over Staunton and had 24 points in the tourney finale against North Mac. He scored 78 points in 4 games and topped 1,000 career points in the championship game. He is averaging 14.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, 2.9 assist and 2.3 steals per game this season.

“Barry reached 1,000 points and that is a real accomplishment,” Carlinville head coach Alan Cooper said. “He is a player who is a natural scorer but does not play with that mentality all the time. He shares the ball and has become a more complete player the past two seasons. I look to enjoy his last month in a Cavalier uniform.”

Kinney Myles

Kinney Myles has been selected as this week's Gary Edwards Country Financial Basketball Player of the Week. The award alternates each week between the Carlinville boys and girls' basketball teams.

Myles, a 6-foot-1 junior forward, had 10 points and a team-high 9 rebounds in Carlinville's 66-47 win over Staunton Monday night. He also led the team with 7 caroms in their win Saturday over Mt. Olive. Myles is averaging 6.7 points and 4.7 rebounds per game this season while shooting 52 percent from the floor.

“Kinney has come a long way. He was our 7th or 8th man last year and played sparingly. This year he has stepped in and filled a starting role and continues to improve,” Carlinville head coach Alan Cooper said. “With the loss of T.J. Gray to an injury this past week, Kinney has been expected to pick up some of the rebounding slack and play longer minutes.  He has done a terrific job and I expect for that to continue thru the last month of the season.”

“Elijah is in his second year as a starter for us and continues to make us go,” Carlinville head coach Alan Cooper said of Barber. “He was great in the championship game. He puts pressure on teams on both ends of the floor, pushing the ball on offense and pressuring the ball handler on defense.”
