CA Defuses TNT Dynamite 1-0

Lansing - On a cold and blustery Friday night, our CA United girls encountered their local rivals, the TNT Dynamite, in a game played at the Kenneth Hope Soccer Complex.

CA got off to a quick start and dominated play early. With a strong showing from the defensive line and athletic play by Taylor and Olivia in the midfield, CA was able to thwart the TNT attack, while Kelsey, Liz and April created numerous scoring chances up top. Despite the girls' strong effort, the stanza ended with the score still knotted at 0-0.

The second half saw a more balanced contest, as each squad struggled to seize the advantage. With Sarah back in goal, however, TNT was unable to find the back of the net on any of their chances. Then, as the game neared its end, CA was finally able to break through. Kelsey was fouled just outside the box by a TNT defender, and played an outstanding shot over the TNT keeper's head for a 1-0 CA lead. An energized CA squad kept their opponents from threatening again in the game's final moments, and CA emerged with a hard-fought 1-0 victory. Great job, girls!

CA Wins Capital Area Classic Tournament

Congratulations to our CA United girls on capturing the championship of the Captial Area Classic!

CA United swept through the tournament with 4 consecutive victories while not allowing a single goal. We began pool play with a game against an outmatched Hamburg United squad, which was controlled by CA throughout for an impressive 3-0 victory. In our second match, against CATS, CA took a 2-0 halftime lead on goals by Liz and Kelsey, and stretched the final margin to 3-0 in the second half when Kelsey scored again. In their last game of pool play CA confronted a determined Farmington team, but early goals by Dani and Kelsey gave CA another 2-0 halftime lead, and a nice header by Taylor off a corner kick ensured a third straight 3-0 victory.

In the championship match CA was pitted against the Lapeer Bandits. By this point our team was seriously shorthanded, having lost our keeper Sarah to an injury (with Olivia gamely agreeing to take her place), and having to play our 4th game in two days with only two subs. Despite this, we were able to keep Lapeer from ever truly threatening, and late in the game Kelsey finally broke through a dogged Lapeer defense with a shot and a score for a 1-0 victory and the tournament championship.

Great job girls!!!
