Team Formation Guidelines
- Players are considered returning players or unassociated players. Players are considered returning if half (50%) of the team members from their former team return and the coach is returning or a parent of a returning player volunteers to coach the team. These players will be considered on a returning team. Otherwise, players are considered unassociated and will be placed in the available player pool.
- Players will be placed onto teams with consideration towards an equal balance of talent, even team sizes, location of residence, and special requests in hardship cases.
- Team Formation Process
1) Teams will be formed during a set Team Formation Meeting. Each age group will be facilitated by a neutral panel of members that are not related to any player in such age group.
2) Special requests:
a) A player may request not to be placed with a specific coach or team. In such cases, a player must stipulate the team/coach he or she does not wish to play for at the time of player registration. Such requests will be honored, but are limited to one request per player per season.
b) Player’s wishes to play with a friend.
c) Player’s request to meet special needs such as transportation, medical conditions, etc.
3) New teams will be formed from the player pool.
4) Any returning team may reform each season regardless of age progression; however, if a returning group does not have (50%) of its members or if the coach does not return and a parent of a returning player does not agree to coach; then that team is disbarred and the players become part of the unassociated player pool.
5) Previous season’s coaches or assistants are not guaranteed a coaching position.
6) Priorities for team placement of players who register late:
a) In the event there is an overflow of players who register late, the priority of who gets placed on a team is:
i. Players whose parents are club volunteers or sponsors.
ii. Date of registration.
b) It is CSA’s goal to enroll the maximum number of players within GCSA and CSA registration timelines. The club will make every effort to accommodate all players by actively recruiting coaches or increasing team sizes within guidelines.
c) Players that register late and cannot be placed immediately will be placed on a waiting list.
7) Teams that have consistently dominated play for 2 consecutive season may be disbarred or reorganized. A team may be ruled to be a dominant team by a two-thirds majority vote of the Executive Board. Reorganization of a dominant team will be conducted during the next team formation process following the decision.
- The Registrar shall submit preliminary team rosters to the Executive Board for final review and approval prior to distribution to coaches and registration with GCSA. The Executive Board may reject, by majority vote, an entire age class and require the Registrar to revise and resubmit that class. The Executive Board may not order specific changes.
