B.M.O.D

RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Check the league website after 3:30 PM to see if all games have been cancelled due to weather and poor field conditions.  If no games, you are done.  If the games are a go, please arrive at least one half hour before game time.
  2. Make general policy decisions at the complex including playability of the fields due to weather conditions.  If rain makes the fields unplayable by game time consult with the managers and cancel the games.  If some fields are playable you may decide to play the games on those fields.
  3. The accepted protocol for preparing wet fields for play is as follows:
    A.  Remove standing water by using the large sponges or by using the wet vacuum.  NEVER, NEVER, NEVER allow persons to use the field rakes or shovels to push water off onto the grass and never scoop out mud and move it off the field.
    B.  Use the field rakes to break up the surface of muddy areas and let them stand for about 10 minutes to air out.`
    C.  Sprinkle a SMALL amount of Rapid Dry (located in the Field-house) on the broken up muddy areas and let stand for about 5 minutes.
    D.  Rake out the treated areas.  Repeat steps B through D. if needed.
NOTE: using too much Rapid Dry will make the playing surface hard like rock.
  4. Unlock the boardroom above the concessions stand and turn off the alarm.  The alarm codes and door key lock box codes are found in the BMOD notebook.
  5. Make sure the scoreboards work and the scorers have the official field scorebooks.  The scorers are responsible for returning the scoreboard controllers and field scorebook to the plastic cabinet in the boardroom.
  6. Unlock and check the restrooms.  There is no alarm on the restrooms nor the Fieldhouse West side door. Make sure they are stocked with toilet paper.  Additional rolls of toilet paper are located in the plastic cabinet just inside the door that leads from the restroom corridor into the main Fieldhouse area.  To turn off the alarm for the Fieldhouse you must enter through the East Fieldhouse door.
  7. Once a game has started, the umpire is in control of the field.  If you determine that a field is unplayable or dangerous after a game begins and the umpire has not moved to call the game then you should approach one of the team mangers and request that they call for a time out.  You should then approach the umpire and explain that in your opinion the field is no longer safe for play and request that the umpire stop the game.  You may also advise the umpire that if he/she fails to stop or suspend the game that you will document their actions in an incident report and they may be liable for any subsequent injuries or field damage.
  8. If lightning is seen, all games must stop immediately.  Players and volunteers may seek shelter in the dugouts.  The games may not start up again until 20 minutes has passed since the last seen lightning.
  9. Visit each game or practice to ensure that all safety rules are being followed.  Specifically the following key safety rules:
    A.  No on-deck batters until the Junior level in BB or SB.  That means no player may have a bat in his/her hands until they are actually up to bat.
    B.  A player warming up a pitcher must wear a catcher’s mask.  This includes in the bullpen and on the field while waiting for the regular catcher to get into gear.  This also applies to the player who is catching balls thrown in to a volunteer who is batting fielding practice.
    C.  Players may not have food in the dugouts.  Water, sports drinks and sunflower seeds are allowed.
    D.  Players must remain inside the dugout building when not actively playing on the field.
    E.  Volunteers may not play catch with players unless it is part of a fielding drill.
    F.  Volunteers may not catch for a pitcher who is warming up.
  10. If requested, assist umpires on any situation.
  11. Take good notes of any altercation that may occur and file an Incident/Non-injury Report.  Incident report forms are located in the BMOD notebook; use the backside of the form for a narrative of the incident.  Notify the league president of the incident and place the incident form in the inside front pocket of the BMOD notebook.
  12. If an injury occurs to a player, volunteer or spectator that requires medical attention supply the person with the Injury/Incident information packet found in the BMOD notebook.  Be sure the incident report is completed and placed in the front of the BMOD notebook.  Advise the injured party or their parent that the claim form must be completed as directed in the instructions and returned to the league safety officer.  Notify the Safety Officer of any injuries requiring medical attention.
  13. Escort any ejected person (Manager, coach, parent or player) out of the park if directed by an umpire.  If the ejected person is uncooperative, call the police.
  14. Notify the appropriate Divisional VP and Umpire in Chief of any ejections.
  15. Turn field lights on at dusk and off by the 11:00 PM curfew time.
  16. Assist in the concession stand if needed.
  17. Make sure that the teams rake out the entire infield dirt areas and cover the pitcher mound and home plate areas on each field.
  18. NOTE: RAKING IS NEVER DONE INTO THE GRASS.  All raking must be done parallel to the grass or baselines.  Raking may be done to pull material from the grass areas back into the dirt areas.
  19. When closing, make sure that the teams have locked the field sheds and that no tools are left out.  If this or the field prep work has not been done, you may call the team managers back to the field to complete their work.
  20. When closing, lock the Fieldhouse, bathrooms and the board room above the concession stand after setting the alarms.  Make a note of any field sheds left open and report via email to the President.
  21. Assist the closing Concessions Manager with counting, verifying and preparing the deposit.  Follow the Concessions Manager to the bank to make the deposit.
  22. Make sure the front gate is locked.
  23. If you have any questions or concerns, contact the league president or another executive board member.
