An exciting but sad day for me to see our 18's boys team close out the 2007-2008 Carolina Region Men's Volleyball Season at this years Regionals Championships. The boys played very well and the team and player improvements this season are outstanding. Coach Calloway has really done a great job with these guys not only from a skills and technical standpoint, but more importantly a teamwork and maturity level never accomplished within this club. I can't say enough about how proud I was to be associated and supporting this team. The team won at least one game from each of the teams and came a few points from getting into the playoffs. GREAT JOB.
On a sad note for me....this could be the final time that a few of our players play for our club. Four of the six players this weekend will be leaving us to attend College next fall. Matthew Hawk, Steven Buning, Zachary Calloway and Taylor Burget have played their final games as CYBVC members.
I first want to say I would be proud to call any of these young men my son and want to praise the Parents and families for a job well done. Second, I will miss all of them and wish them the best of luck in the future. Matthew Hawk has been with our club since day one. I'm pretty sure that Matthew was 8 years old and not too much shorter than the giant of a man that he is today. His large strong exterior and his quiet demeanor is a perfect complement to the large heart that resides inside. Zach Calloway joined our club in 2000 and started what I'd like to call the Calloway Era. Zach and his brother JC move our club into a higher dimension in height. Zach's smile and scowl are two things I'll always remember about him. Steven Buning joined us in 2002 and again raised the bar for our club. Nobody then or today has a passion for volleyball like Steven. I truly believe that I could contact Steven at any time night or day and talk Steven into a game of Volleyball. I don't think we've ever had a boy more dedicated and willing to play, practice, coach the sport like Steven. And last, Taylor Burget. I found him playing pickup at a local health club, a transplant from my home town that played High School Volleyball and had experience and desire to play, so even though he would be playing with younger less experience guys...we are all so glad he did. His play and excitement for the game brought all of the guys together in a season that would have been bumpy without him. Thanks to all of these boys and families that have spent their hard earned time and energy with our club and supporting boys volleyball. -Brian

This was the seasons first Boys tournament and our boys made us proud once again. Three boys teams participated with the addition of two girls team to make the day almost perfect for our boys. A slow start and a few losses couldn't hold them back from getting to the finals and winning a game against a tough and undefeated Alexander 15's Aces Girls team. In the end, the boys just couldn't win game three but put up a good battle....Good job once again to all the boys and coaches. After losing the opening match 2-1, the 14's boys improved every game and waited uptil the finals to drop their next match. Cool play by veterans Lucas Siegel and Joseph Lucido steadied the team all day while the rest of the crew pitched in when needed. Big serving runs by Nick Hawk and Stephen Chen helped drive the guys through playoffs. Hustle and gritty play by Cole Harris, brothers Patrick and Richard Guzan showed all the teams what we are made of.
Great job boys. Thanks to Coach Jim and Steve for keeping the boys learning and having fun and to all the family support.
