In addition to Player of the Year Rhian Jones of Haverford, the 2007 All-Delco field hockey team includes:

Jamie Caniglia, Radnor: A senior midfielder, she led the Red Raiders in assists as Radnor qualified for the Class AAA district tournament for the first time. “She was our playmaker and the backbone of our team,” said coach Angel DiRocco. “She is just a real solid player.”

Emily Edwards, Haverford: A senior forward, she scored 14 goals as the Fords advanced the quarterfinal round of the PIAA Class AAA Tournament. She scored Haverford’s goal in the overtime loss to Penn Manor in the state tournament. “She’s so fast and a great competitor,” said coach Linda Jones. “She opened up the field all season with her determined and hard running on and off the ball.”

Stephanie Fichter, Cardinal O’Hara: A senior midfielder, she scored threee goals, had four assists and led the team in steals as O’Hara advanced to the Catholic League final. A four-year starter, she moved from attack to midfield and was a trail player on penalty corners. She was named Catholic League most valuable player in voting by the league’s coaches. “She’s a true team player,” said coach Nicole Nelson.

Emily Garrity, Strath Haven: A junior, she earned All-Delco honors for the second consecutive year. She scored seven goals and had a team-leading 11 assists as the Panthers finished second in the Central League to Haverford and advanced to the second round of the district tournament. “She was a major part of our transition from defense to offense and was our most difficult player to defense,” said coach Amanda Lawson.

Annie Gilhool, Chichester: A senior, she scored 12 goals and had 15 assists as the Eagles earned a share of the Del Val League championship — the school’s first field hockey title in 20 years. “She was the biggest reason for our success this year,” said coach Jamie Blumenthal. “She’s an extremely hard worker and a true leader.”

Emily Grabias, Interboro: A senior midfielder, she helped the Bucs to a share of the Del Val League championship. “She was an anchor on our defense and played offense as well,” said Interboro coach Diane Faison. “She played on offensive corners and attacked (opponents’) corners. And her play at midfield was crucial. If we didn’t have her out there, we wouldn’t have done as well as we did.”

Jessica Maroney, Penncrest: A junior goalie, she had an 88 percent save percentage backing up an inexperienced Lions defensive unit. She was Penncrest’s most valuable player and was named the All-Central goalie. “After our games coaches would mention how good they thought she was and how they wished they had her for their goalie,” said Penncrest’s interim head coach Sue Boyer.

Meghan McCullough, Academy of Notre Dame: A sophomore midfielder, she was a strong presence all over the field as the Irish earned the Inter-Ac League championship. She scored three goals, including the game-winner when Notre Dame played at league runnerup Germantown Academy. “She’s a seasoned player and controls all of the play,” said Notre Dame head coach Adele Williams.

Veronica Radice, Haverford: A senior midfielder, she scored seven goals and demonstrated excellent defensive skills for the Central League champion Fords. One of her best performances came in Haverford’s overtime state tournament loss to Penn Manor. “She had the ability to pop up into the circle and score key goals,” said coach Linda Jones.

Rachel Walsh, Archbisop Carroll: A senior midfielder, she earned All-Delco honors for the second consecutive season. Her defensive skills helped the Patriots shut out four Catholic League opponents and limited two playoff opponents to one goal apiece as Carroll earned its third consecutive Catholic League championship. She will play at Saint Joseph’s University.

Amy Wharton, Strath Haven: A senior midfielder, she scored seven goals and had eight assists (second-high on the team) as the Panthers posted an 18-2 record while advancing to the second round of the Class AAA district tournament. “She started every game for four years and was a leader on the field,” said Haven head coach Amanda Lawson. “She was our most defensive midfielder and teamed with Garrity to help make our transition game work.”

Kim Zamojcin, Archbishop Carroll: A senior, she scored 22 goals in helping the Patriots earn their third straight Catholic League playoff title. She was most effective in her team’s biggest games, scoring three goals in the win at Archbishop Wood, getting her team’s only regulation goal in an overtime win over Wood in the semifinal round of the playoffs and scoring twice in the championship win over Cardinal O’Hara.
