Carpe Diem Coaches= Experienced Coaching
Carpe Diem Coaches are experienced current or former players and coaches. We are confident we can coach your child at any level.
Eric Shick- Director of Carpe Diem
Eric has been coaching volleyball for 9 years now at the Club level. He coached with 2 other clubs in Columbia before starting Carpe Diem in the fall of 2000. During the years of 97, 98, and 99 he was the manager for the USC Women's Volleyball team and got to watch collegiate coaching at its best from Kim Hudson. Eric also plays both indoor and outdoor at the Open level in Columbia.
Andy Edgren-
Andy has been coaching volleyball for over 14 years. He started his volleyball career by playing High School volleyball where he grew up in Pennsylvania. After coming back from China, Andy became the Head Coach at Ben Lippen High School here in Columbia, where he took them to the State Championship in 1995. Andy has also coached Club in Florida for Daytona Juniors and Spruce Creek Jrs before coaching with Carpe Diem last year. He too plays indoor and outdoor volleyball at the Open level here in Columbia.
Andy does camps during the summers only.
Brent Petersen-
Brent began his career of coaching at USC where he was the captain and coach of the Men's Club team for 2 years during his time at USC, where he received his Masters in PE. Brent is currently the varsity coach at Ridgeview High School. He has been coaching club for Carpe Diem and Magnum Volleyball Club since the fall of 2000.
Brent is a teacher and loves to do camps. He is very energetic and relates to kids well.
Nicole Gilstrap-
Nicole has quite a resume. She comes to us from the Upstate where she coached with the Foothills Juniors club for the past two years. Before that she played setter at Pickens high school where she was AAAA Player of the Year in her Senior year, All-state and a member of the campionship team. She then played college ball at Mars Hill where she broke the record for the most assist in one year at 1400 and then in her senior year broke the record for the most assist ever at the school with over 4600. She was All- Conference, All-Tournament team, SAC Conference Most Valuable Player, and she led the team to a record of 18-0 and then led the team to be conference champions. She has been coaching club for 4 years for Carpe Diem.

As we start the new season, we are looking for qualified coaches to help us expand the club. Please call Eric at 730-6100 if you are interested in coaching for us. Previous coaching experience is necessary.
