· Session to be evaluated by NCAA College Coaches! · Girls, grades 7-12 The Carolina All-Stars Basketball Spring Elite Individual Showcases will be held in an NCAA Certified event on Sunday, April 17th. This is the LAST time during SPRING evaluation period that NCAA Division I colleges are permitted to evaluate players until July 6, 2011. The showcase is design to provide Athletes exposure to college coach recruiters. This will allow players to receive the proper evaluation from college recruiters at various levels (Division I, II, III & NAIA) to help all players showcase their talents and increase their opportunity to play in college. Our showcases will give parents and parents a glimpse into the process of player development, the college recruiting process and the world of high level competitive basketball. The Spring Elite Showcase is the extra edge for those parents and players who wish to have exposure to college coaches. College coaches will be in attendance to observer players. Make it a plan to get ready for the upcoming year by attending the showcase. Register Early (Space will be limited to 100 paid athletes). Wednesday, August 26 Long-time Carolina All-Stars Kristen Lyon commits to play basketball at Western Carolina University KRISTEN LYON COMMITS TO PLAY BASKETBALL AT WESTERN CAROLINA Durham, NC - The Carolina All-Stars/NC Flight Girls Basketball Organization is pleased to announce that Kristen Lyon has verbally committed to play for Coach Karen Middleton at Western Carolina University. Kristen becomes Coach Middleton's 1st recruit in her tenure at Western Carolina. Coach Middleton previously coached at Illinois and 10 years at Stanford. Western Carolina is the defending Southern Conference Tournament Champions and represented the conference in the 2009 NCAA Tournament making its 4th post-season trip in the past 5 seasons. Western Carolina Women’s Basketball Ranked Eighth in 2009 WBCA Academic Top 25 with a combined team GPA of 3.428. The Lady Catamounts ended the 2008-09 season with a 21-12 record, the third “Western Carolina has the right combination of everything I am looking for in a school and basketball program.” Lyon explained her decision. “It has a beautiful campus with strong academics, winning tradition and a coaching staff that I felt very comfortable with playing for the next four years.
Added Carolina All-Stars Director Ty Cox "It has truly been a joy to have Kristen in our program for so long and we are very happy for her and her family today. I am extremely confident that she will do well in whatever she chooses in basketball and in life. Kristen is a uniquely special young lady." Kristen is a very versatile 5'10" guard from Durham Jordan High School (North Carolina). Kristen is extremely strong physical player with a nice shooting touch that also finishes well inside. She works hard on both ends of court and plays with a high level of basketball intelligence. Kristen is truly one the special players in this class. As a junior at Jordan, she led the PAC-6 Conference in assists and was 2nd in scoring. As a sophomore, she led the PAC-6 conference is rebounding and was 3rd in scoring. Last season, she recorded 11 double-doubles and had season highs of 25 points and 17 rebounds. Plays travel basketball with Carolina All-Stars and NC Flight. She was a member of the Carolina All-Stars Team that won the 2009 AAU Open Division State Championship and NC Flight Team that won the 2008 AAU Sophomore Super Showcase Championship at Disney last summer. She was named to the 2008 & 2009 PAC-6 All-Conference and Herald-Sun Newspaper All-Area Teams. Kristen needs less than 200 points this season to become Jordan’s All-Time Leading Scorer. Her high school coach is Michael Mulligan. Kristen is the daughter of John and Desiree Lyon and has an older brother John, III (Sophomore Football Player at Harvard University) and younger sister Justine (A 3 year member of AAU Nationally Ranked Carolina All-Stars 2015 Team) and younger brother Samuel. Kristen has played and trained with the Carolina All-Stars since the age of 12. Some of the other schools Kristen considered were Gardner-Webb University, Elon University, Virginia Tech, UNC-Asheville, Radford and Charleston-Southern. Kristen will sign her national letter of intent during the early signing period in November. Kristen is the 3rd member from the 2010 16U Team coached by Kevin Smith to commit to a Division I school. Point Guard Shannon Smith has committed to play at University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill and Post Lindsy Wright has committed to play at Wake Forest. Post Lauren White and Guards Kelsey Harris and LaCherish Reed are all still considering a number Division I opportunities.
Monday, June 29 CAROLINA ALL-STARS/ NC FLIGHT SHANNON SMITH COMMITS TO PLAY FOR COACH HATCHELL AT UNC-CH
The Carolina All-Stars/NC Flight Girls Basketball Organization is pleased to announced that today Shannon Smith committed to play for Coach Sylvia Hatchell at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill beginning in the fall of 2010.
Shannon is a very talented 5'7" point guard from Gastonia, NC with a strong handle and high basketball IQ. She sees the floor well, delivers pinpoint accurate passes and has the ability to shoot from 3 point range off the dribble. During the 2008-2009 season, Shannon was the only non-senior to be named to the AP All-State 1st team. She averaged 26 points, 7 assists, 5 rebounds and 3 steals per game. Her season highs were 42 points and 12 assists (3 twices). Shannon is a tremendous competitor and proven leader and winner. Her NC Flight/Carolina All-Stars travel teams have claimed Northe Carolina State AAU championships in each of the last 4 years and captured the 2008 AAU Sophomore Super Showcase Championship last summer in Disney. Shannon helped lead her Forestview High School team to the 2009 AAA state championship game. Shannon was also named the 2009 State Player of the Year by the North Carolina High School Coaches Association. Shannon has been trained and is coached by her dad, Kevin Smith who is the co-director of the NC Flight/Carolina All-Stars Girls Basketball Organization. Her high school coach is Ken Beatty of Gastonia Forestview High School. Shannon is the daughter of Kevin and Ramada Smith and has an older brother Kevin and younger sister Lauren. Lauren plays on the 2009 13-Under State Championship Team.
Tuesday, May 5 11 and Under Carolina All-Stars 3rd Straight NC AAU CHAMPIONSHIPThe Carolina All-Stars 11 and Under team finished the weekend with their 3rd straight North Carolina AAU State Championship. While doing this, they remain undefeated in the State of North Carolina in there age group 3 years in a row. Way to go girls!!!
