In House News Fall 2009

Here is some basic info about our program:  We play on Saturdays at GFMS.  The U4 receives a t-shirt, and need shin guards, cleats are recommended, and a size 3 or 4 ball.  Players should have something to drink.  We make fields with cones and flags and teach fundamentals in a fun way.  More advanced players can also play 3 v 3 at the end of the session.  They'll probably play from about 11:00 to 12:00 Sat mornings.

U/5 and U/6 receives a shirt, shorts, socks.  Shin guards needed, cleats recommended, size 3 or 4 ball and a drink.  They should practice once during the week, I recommend joint practices where several teams or a whole division practice together.  If you can't make it one night, try practicing with another team a different night.  It's about teaching the players fundamentals. Some coaches also do practicing before games on Saturdays so it's good to arrive a half hour before games.  We'll play from about 12:30 to 1:30 at GFMS.  We also use cones and flags for fields and play 3 v 3 Microsoccer.

U/7, U8/9 and U10/11 all receive a shirt, shorts and socks.  Shin guards needed, cleats recommended, size 4 ball and a drink.  The U/7 will play at about 1:30 Saturdays and will play 3 v 3 and maybe 5 v 5; they also do a travel orientation program in the Spring.  The U10/11 will play at about Noon at GFMS Saturdays on the larger field which we divide with practice nets into smaller fields.  The U8/9 plays at about 1:30 Saturdays at GFMS also on the larger field divided by practice nets.  These teams or age groups should practice once during the week depending on coaches availablity and should arrive a half hour before games for warm up.  I believe the U8/9 will have a group practice Wed nights at GFMS, not sure the time yet.

Coaches and assistant coaches need to register in their family account on www.carmelsoccer.com so I can assign them to a team.  They also must do the Risk Management link on www.ehysl.org every 2 years.  This is for everyone's safety and protection.  The season will start the Saturday after Labor Day and is basically every Saturday into early to mid November, there may be a holiday mixed in; a schedule will be posted on our website soon.  A coaches mtg will be held shortly, probably the first or second Wed in Sept at Patterson Rec including a video about Microsoccer for new coaches.  I'll need to take a photo of each coach for an ID card you will receive if you pass the Risk Mgmt.

Recommended players arrive one half hour early for warmup (not U/4).
Shin guards required, cleats recommended plus a soccer ball (size 3 for
youngest, size 4 ok).  Hotline for rainout info (845) 529-0224.  Once
teams approved, then families can view teams through family account on
website www.carmelsoccer.com.  Practice times to be determined by
coaches, joint practices recommended.  Keith Bowman planning a U8/9
group practice on Wed nights at 5:30 at GFMS.  Dave Sweet planning U/7
practice night probably Tues nights at 6:15 at GFMS.  Flags and cones
used for fields from U/4 through U/7.  Picture day 10/17/09.  Red Bull
player appearance 9/26.  Schedules will be posted to website In House
link when ready.

SUMMARY OF INHOUSE TEAM FORMATION POLICY
Teams will be set up to assure parity and avoid 'stacked teams'. Requests for players team placement will be honored only in cases of special need that can be verified. Board Members, Coaches and Assistant Coaches fall into this category. Coaches and assistants will have their childern on their teams.

The number of teams formed will be based on player registrations, field availability and number of adult volunteers. No teams will be formed without adult volunteers. High School and other young players will be encouraged and recruited to train and coach games but they will not be responsible for team administration.

Age Groups will run from August 1 to July 31 and will follow FIFA guidelines. These are the standard US Soccer Age Groups and will correspond with Travel Age Groups. It will better prepare players for Travel and make it easier for Travel coaches to determine which players are eligible for their teams. It will also enable players to make new friends outside of their ususal school age/grade groups.

After teams are set up, no new players will be added to existing teams without the expressed approval of the Inhouse Director. If there is no room on exisitng teams, the new applicants will be place on a wait list until new teams are formed and coaches recruited. New schedules will also have to be created.

MICROSOCCER 3V3
The Club is commttied to skills development and learning basic soccer at a young age (U5, U6, U7). US Soccer, NSCAA and experience coaches in the Club have found that playing 3v3 provides more per player touches to develop skills. It also provided an easier way for the players to learn the game and for coaches to teach.

We've asked the coaches to also on teaching basic rules such as restarts fron the center (now called placekicks), throw ins, goal kicks and corner kicks. Players need to know these basis rules. Very easy to teach in groups of 3. We've also asked them to be sure the sweeper/keepers go forward in support of the attack rather then play 2 attackers against 3 defenders. If they don't have the understanding we need to teach this basic tactic. Developing foot skills and attacking mentality are essential for keeper development in today's game. We also want to encourage players that are in defensive positions go forward, create some chances on goal for their teammates and shoot themselves. Don't need to push them too hard, just encourage and let them play. Above all, mastery of ball skills enable the players to develop a love for the game that they carry throughout their liftimes.

For games where teams that have too many subs, they can start a 2nd game of 3v3 and have assistant supervise.

INHOUSE PLAYER DEVELOPMENT: PREPARING PLAYERS FOR TRAVEL
In order to enhance player and coach development, we will be identifying Inhouse players and coaches for next season's new modified Boys and Girls Travel teams. We will be focusing on the U7/U8 age group. All all other age groups U9 through U12 who have players interested in trying out for an exisitng Travel team are included. Any Inhouse parents who have childern interested in playing Travel or who are interested in coaching should contact us via our email address or leave a message on the hotline. Click TRAVEL on the left for more information about our Travel program.
