Entertainment has always been a big part of Jana's life. As the youngest of six children and daughter to a musician father, she naturally fell in love with music and being the center of attention. Jana's parents owned and operated a professional recording studio and performers such as Crosby, Stills & Nash and Frankie Lane were regular visitors to Jana's childhood home. There were always inspirations and opportunities for Jana to perform, even if it was on the fireplace hearth. At the age of six Jana found her inspiration to dance. Bonnie Ratzin taught dance classes at the YMCA in San Diego where Jana took gymnastic lessons. So enamored by Miss Bonnie, Jana would sneak out of her gymnastics lessons to watch dance class. After learning that Miss Bonnie not only lived nearby but also taught dance out of her home, Jana's mother signed her up. One dance class led to two dance classes, which led to three; you know how that works. Pretty soon Jana was dancing everyday studying: Ballet, Tap, Jazz, Musical Theatre and Gymnastics. As a young girl, Jana also sang on TV & radio commercials and several children's albums. Many or her recordings are still used today in classes and recitals across the country. As a Bonnie Ratzin Dancer for 12 years, Jana competed in countless local and national competitions as both a performer and instructor. Some of her performances include the 1988 Super Bowl pre-game show, 1988 Rose Bowl half-time show, the Leukemia Foundation Telethon, the "Big Ten" Kickoff Party, and industrial videos for companies like Yamaha Keyboards. She began teaching dance at the age of fifteen, while continuing to be active on her school's ASB, cheer squad, gymnastics team and drama club. After graduating from Patrick Henry High School in 1988, she continued her college studies at Grossmont Community College. It was here in the Speech Communication department that she met a handsome and charming young man named Ron Romaine. Jana received her A.A. degree from Grossmont College and moved on to San Diego State University where she earned her B.A. in Speech Communication. After her graduation in 1993, Ron popped the question in front of 1500 people during a dance recital. They married soon after and the adventure began! After spending her childhood and young adult life completely involved in dance, Jana decided to take a break, use her degree and try life in the corporate world. After one short year working in the sales department for the Westgate Hotel, she realized that dance was where her heart belonged. Her dream of owning a studio was rekindled and became Jana's single focus. She began teaching at several dance studios throughout San Diego County and was able to train and teach with some of the best talents in San Diego. "I believe it was fate and dedication", states Miss Jana about the path that brought her to the Carlsbad Dance Centre in 1996. It was here that she met one of the more important influences in her life, Ginya Sherlock. Jana spent her time teaching and learning everything she could about the Dance Studio business. Although Ginya was the boss, they shared a special "soul-sister" connection and remain the close friends today. The Carlsbad Dance Centre always felt like home to Jana, so in 2002 when Ginya decided to retire it was a natural fit for Jana to become the new Owner/Director. Over the years Jana has proved to be a gifted and prolific chorographer. Both she and her students have received numerous awards at regional and national dance competitions. Such awards include: Grand National Champion, Dancer of the Year, "Best Choreography", "Most Entertaining", "Sensational Staging", "Best Costume", "Outstanding Technique", and "Top Studio". Recently one of Jana's competition dancers was awarded 1st overall amongst 167 soloists at a national dance competition. Jana is especially proud of CDC's numerous awards for Outstanding Sportsmanship. It's always Jana's hope that her students will dance for the love of dance and receive the same joy and personal rewards that she's experienced for almost 30 years. |

Inspired by his Mother who taught him the "Snake" and the "Reebok", Efren knew at a very young age that Hip-Hop culture was going to be a part of his life. He grew up learning the basics of Hip-Hop dance, always striving to learn new techniques. As a young boy Efren never attended formal dance classes, instead he looked to the older neighborhood kids as his dance mentors. This raw form of learning gave Efren a real understanding of what Hip-Hop means at its roots. Performing quickly became a major part of Efren's life. He was dance captain for his junior high and high school Show Choir and was involved with Honor Choir, ASB, Speech, Drama and Cheer. In addition to performances at the world-renowned Legoland theme park, Efren has also danced in their TV commercials. Because Hip-Hop is a dance style where moves & methods develop, change and disappear at an incredibly rapid pace, Efren often travels to San Francisco or Los Angeles, to attend clinics like the "Monsters of Hip-Hop" and train under some of the industry giants like Chris Judd; a featured dancer on many Jennifer Lopez tours & videos and Jorge Santos; a dancer that performs with Christina Aguilera. Efren also studied and trained with the legendary Wade Robson, who has choreographed and worked with every big name in the music & entertainment business. In 2003, Efren came to the Carlsbad Dance Centre, at first he worked as a substitute instructor but quickly developed his own classes and was an instant hit with both students and staff. Efren puts all of his skills, training and enthusiasm into his teaching as well as his regular performances with Hip-Hop groups throughout San Diego and Los Angeles. Efren continues to learn and grow as a dancer & instructor and is honored to share his passion for dance with the Carlsbad Dance Centre family. He wants all his students to remember; "Dance to Inspire not to Impress". Efren sends out a very special "Thank you" to his family for their patience, understanding and unconditional love. |

Kerri is proof positive that starting a dance career in your early teens does not preclude you from becoming a beautiful and accomplished dancer. She began her training at the Class Act dance studio in Paso Robles, Ca. Armed with inspiration from her instructors and a strong work ethic from her family, Kerri quickly progressed to become a skilled young dancer. In 1995 she was accepted to the Aspen Summer Ballet School. In this program she received extensive training in the Balanchine ballet technique. At the conclusion of the season Kerri was selected by the Balanchine Trust Fund to perform in a original variation of Serenade. The Aspen Summer Ballet School also honored her with the gold "Aspen Leaf" award in recognition of being the most improved dancer in the program. After her time in Colorado she returned to Paso Robles to train at Class Act for the next several years. During that time she had the chance to learn from notable instructors such as, Kathleen Fitzgerald-McCough, principle dancer with The Royal Danish Ballet along with Emmy award winning and world-renowned choreographers, Suzi Miller-Fuentes and Doriana Sanchez. After high school Kerri auditioned, along with over five hundred dancers, for one of twelve spots with the prestigious The Edge Performing Arts Studio in Hollywood, CA. She performed professionally, throughout the U.S. with recording artist Mya, KC & JoJo, "Weird Al" Yankovic and Bone, Thugs & Harmony. In 2000, Kerri returned to Paso Robles High School to teach dance and later transferred to Atascadero High School and started the school's first dance team program. In just their second year as a team, Kerri led her girls to an impressive Bronze medal in a statewide competition. In 2006, Kerri relocated to San Diego and began teaching for Culture Shock before taking a short break from dance to concentrate on her corporate career. In 2008, she met with Jana and was quickly added to the CDC staff! Kerri continues her dance training by attending Master Classes in Los Angeles every chance she gets. Kerri now resides in Carlsbad and like many dance teachers she also has a "day job". Although very different from teaching dance; she enjoys her position as office coordinator for a chiropractic clinic in Encinitas. Kerri loves spending time with her family & friends, going to the beach, traveling, camping and going to art galleries. She believes that in order to keep life "fresh & exciting" you should always be up for something new. In the world of dance, Marco started off small and a bit later than most kids but with hard work and lots of enthusiasm he's become an accomplished, nationally recognized, award winning dancer and teacher. Marco first discovered his love for dance at San Dieguito Academy when the school decided to add lindy-hop as part of their physical education curriculum. Marco found that his mind and body had an innate connection to this new activity and he was instantly in love with dance. Under the guidance and training of Chelsea Mayne and Jonny Lloyd, Marco flourished in lindy-hop. It was during this time that Marco and his instructors noticed his natural ability to lead & teach others. In his sophomore year he formed his school's first Lindy-hop Club and remained the president until graduating. In 1998 Marco was looking to expand his training and performance opportunities when he joined a local professional hip-hop dance group called Hop Star. Although still in school and enrolled in many AP classes, he managed to balance his academics and dance training. Just three days after joining Hop Star, the dance troupe was selected to be part of an international video campaign for Panasonic as they introduced the stunning visual technology of HDTV. Marco's dance career was launched and he performed professionally in everything from lindy-hop to swing to hip-hop shows. After graduating with honors from SDA in 2000, Marco traveled the US from coast-to-coast with Hop Star; they frequently performed to stadium size crowds and always brought the house to their feet. In 2001, Marco and Hop Star performed for Fortune 500 companies like Qualcomm, Volkswagen and others. He's also danced with several entertainment industry big shots like: The Brian Setzer Orchestra, KC and the Sunshine Band, Royal Crown Review, Earth Wind & Fire and Big Time Operator. In the fall of 2001, Marco began a five year stretch working with kids in the Encinitas Union School District. Teaching children to dance has shown him the importance of being a mentor and role model. These realizations had a profound personal affect on Marco and contributed to making him a better person and teacher. While training with acclaimed choreographers such as Jeremy Lamont, Daniel Valentine, David Silvas and Leslie Scott, Marco started a hip-hop group called "Conspiracy Theory". A few of Marcos proudest moments in dance include directing Conspiracy Theory to a 3rd Place Bronze at the 2006 US Hip-Hop International Competition in Los Angeles, and then returning in 2007 to capture 1st Place Gold, "Helping my students reach their highest potential and become champions was a very special moment", states Marco. Since coming to Carlsbad Dance Centre, Marco has enjoyed working with the kids, their parents and the CDC staff. When not teaching, dancing or attending master classes, Marco enjoys hanging at the beach, going to the movies or dining out with friends. |
