Carlisle trio wins Susquehanna Smackdown Tournament
Susky Champs
Justin Beachy, Ed Benish, and Daniel Anderson teamed up to win the Susquehanna Smackdown tournament on July 12th.  They went 12-0 in games on the day, and beat the likes of Warwick, Chambersburg, Soul 15's National Team, and XDC (CV, Mechburg).  A fun time was had by all, and many teams from around the area participated in the event.

Kyle and Justin
Congrats Justin and Kyle on the All-State Team

Carlisle has 2 named to the Pennsylvania All-State Team
Justin Beachy and Kyle Adams were 2 of 40 players named the top H.S. players in AAA volleyball in the state of Pennsylvania.  Among the ranks of these players are many D-1 prospects, and there were 4 from right down the road at CV on the list as well.  Before Justin and Kyle, only one other Carlisle player was named to this list, R.J. Roth, in 2005.  They all will be remembered as some of the top volleyball players in PA's history.  Congrats again to Justin, Kyle, and the whole Thundering Herd team on a great season!

Carlisle gave #13 NATIONALLY RANKED Cumberland Valley lone loss of the season
Rivals.com recently released their Fab 50 teams in the United States, and 5 teams from Pennsylvania were honored on the list.  State Champ Cumberland Valley was the highest, ranked #13, with runner-up Central York at 18th.  State semi-finalist Hempfield was ranked #40.  Carlisle gave Cumberland Valley their only loss this season, and the Herd were also able to defeat Hempfield in the District Playoffs.  This just emphazises how good this Carlisle team was this year.

Thursday, June 5
Carlisle has 3 named Mid Penn All-Stars
Congratulations to Nate Wysocki (Sr., OH), Justin Beachy (Jr., L), and Kyle Adams (Sr., MH) for making the Mid Penn Commonwealth All-Star team.  Justin and Kyle made the 6-person first team while Nate made the second team.

Friday, May 30
Herd have two named to District 3-AAA All-Star Team

Released on May 30th, Carlisle is pleased to announce that Justin Beachy (Jr., L) made the 1st-Team District 3 All-Star team, and Kyle Adams (Sr., MH) made the 2nd-team District 3 All-Star team.  This is a great accomplishment for both after a very successful season.

Thursday, May 22
Carlisle Falls in District 3 pool play

Although the season ended at the same spot as last year, this year's team was completely different and had many more successes than previous years.  Carlisle was pooled yesterday with #1 state ranked Central York, #4 state ranked Hempfield (defending state champs), and Central Dauphin.  This pool was seen by many to be much more challanging than the other pool.  Carlisle started off slow against #1 Central York losing 3-0, but then saw new life after taking out #4 State Ranked Hempfield 2-1.  Carlisle needed only to beat Central Dauphin to move on, or have Central York take out Hempfield to force a tie breaker, but unfortunately neither occured as Carlisle lost 3-0.  Carlisle finished T-3rd in the pool and T-5th overall.

Kyle Adams and Dan Hoy combined for 52 kills, with Ed Benish chipping in 82 assists.

"We are incredibly disappointed," Coach Mike Beachy stated. "We knocked off Hempfield and really played down against CD. We are a great team. We can beat any team if we play our game. We just didn't take care of it tonight."

Carlisle fell out of the D3 tourney taking Central Dauphin down with them.  Cedar Cliff placed 3rd in their pool also falling out, and Cumberland Valley remains as the only Mid Penn team in the tournament.

This season was definitely a success by all means of the word.  This season saw players step up when they needed to, defeats of State ranked teams (Cumberland Valley, Christopher Dock, Hempfield, Wyomissing), and a very impressive record (12-4, 14-5 Overall).

Carlisle played in the Mid Penn Division Championship game for the first time in school history, losing out to Cumberland Valley 3-2, and losing the 5th game by only 4 points.  Carlisle finished the season with a 7-3 division record taking out Cumberland Valley, Central Dauphin, Cedar Cliff, Chambersburg x2, and CD East x2.  They finished T-2nd in the division and T-2nd in the MP following the end of the regular season.

Carlisle had all 6 seniors (Kyle Adams, Ed Benish, Dan Hoy, Nate Wysocki, team managers Laura Yuengert and Rome Oliver) named as Mid Penn Scholar Athletes.  Also, Laura Yuengert and Dan Hoy were named District 3 scholar athletes having both earned 7 letters throughout high school and both having over a 3.8 GPA.  Laura's is around 4.15 and Dan's is about 4.05 just for the record.  :)  We've got some smart kids on this team.

Overall, this team will definitely go down in school history as being one of the best Boys' Volleyball teams at Carlisle High School.  Although the Herd were not able to receieve a banner, the respect that has been earned, the personal success, and the fact that the team has been able to come together to achieve a common goal is success enough.

Carlisle will return a core group of juniors next season including L Justin Beachy, Setter Terry Davis, DS Billy Davis, OPP Daniel Anderson, and MH Eric Love.  Carlisle will also see output from Josh Black and Dalton Bowser as well.  Carlisle will have to have many players step up in the absence of hard hitting MH Kyle Adams, OH Dan Hoy, OH Nate Wysocki, and Setter Ed Benish.

Thanks to Coach Beachy, Coach Gareth, Coach Kelly, Mr. Null, the mangers, Berkey and Waiter, HUTCH!, Mrs. Hoy, Mrs. Wysocki, Mrs. Adams for the concessions, all the other parents that supported and helped, the officials, AND ESPECIALLY all the fans that came and supported us throughout the season at both home and away matches.

Carlisle cruises past Wilson in District 3 Prelims
Carlisle blanked Berks-2 seed Wilson in the Play-in game of the District 3 AAA Playoffs.  They won 3-0 (25-18, 25-14, 25-20).  The Herd saw sophomore Josh Black step up strong in the absence of Daniel Anderson, and he did a great job recording 4 kills and getting 3 blocks.  Kyle Adams kept the Carlisle attack going strong with 14 kills and also had 5 blocks at the net.  In double digit kills was Dan Hoy who had 10 kills and 2 aces.  Also contributing for Carlisle was Ed Benish (34 assists, 3 blocks), Eric Love (5 kills, 3 blocks), Justin Beachy (5 aces, 9 digs), Nate Wysocki (4 kills), and Billy Davis (7 digs).

Thursday, May 15
Herd lose to CD, then rebound strong against CC
Carlisle started out sloppy against CD, and lost 3-1 in close games, but then were able to dominate at the net against Cedar Cliff and win 3-0.  Carlisle moves into District 3 playoffs as the number 3 seed for the second straight year and will face Berks-2 seed Wilson in the play-in round of Districts next Monday at 7:30 at Central York High School.

Mid Penn Title slips through Carlisle's hands

Carlisle was on the losing end of a great effort on Tuesday night, in the game that would decide the Mid Penn Commonwealth Champion.  Carlisle started out slow early, but then got things going as the match progressed.  Cumberland Valley saw the return of D-1, George Mason bound, Andrew Dentler in the match, who posed a threat at all times.  Carlisle lost the first game 25-15, then started strong and pulled away with a 26-24 win in the second game.  CV fought back and won the third game 25-17, and then Carlisle won the fourth game 25-22.  This was Carlisle's fourth 5th game match of the year, and for the third time, Carlisle came out on the losing side.  Kyle Adams (Sr, MH) again was dominate at the net with 17 kills, 7 blocks, and 9 digs.  Also contributing were Nate Wysocki (Sr, OH, 9 kills, 7 digs), Eric Love (Jr, MH, 8 kills, 3 blocks), Ed Benish (Sr, S, 38 assists, 4 blocks), Justin Beachy (Jr, L, 24 digs), Daniel Anderson (Jr, OPP, 4 kills, 2 aces), and Billy Davis (Jr, DS, 8 digs).  Carlisle finishes tied with Central Dauphin for 2nd in the division, and will play them in the first of two games on Thursday at the Mid Penn Seeding Tournament.

Herd Seniors go out with a bang in their last home game

Chambersburg came to town on Thursday night and Carlisle was definitely ready to play.  Carlisle won easily in 3 games and all players saw action.  Carlisle was led by Kyle Adams (15 kills, 2 blocks, and 8 digs), Nate Wysocki (5 digs, 1 kill (on one swing, it was a beautiful cut shot)), Dan Hoy (7 kills, 4 digs), Ed Benish (38 assists, 2 aces), and Allan Heard (2 digs).  One of the most memorable moments of the night would be Dan Hoy's amazing "shoot" hit.  Thanks to all of the great fans we had last night in surely one of the most packed gyms we've had for a volleyball match.  Carlisle will square off with Cumberland Valley Tuesday night for the Commonwealth Division title.

Carlisle takes out Cedar Cliff

Carlisle outlasted Cedar Cliff in a marathon of a match Thursday night 3-2.  The first game finally finished 37-35, and everyone knew it was going to be a long, tough match from the get go.  Carlisle won the 2nd, 4th games, while Cedar Cliff won games 1 and 3.  This was Carlisle's 3rd 5-game match of the season, and they didn't start out on the right foot in Game 5, trailing 5-0 from the start.  The Herd gained composure, and points went back and forth before Carlisle blocked the ball on match point giving them the victory.

Kyle Adams led the Herd attack with 19 kills and 9 blocks, while Justin Beachy had 42 digs and 4 aces.  Dan Hoy recorded a double-double with 12 kills and 10 digs, while Ed Benish had 53 assists, 7 blocks, and 9 digs.  Also contributing were Nate Wysocki (10 kills, 9 digs), Eric Love (9 kills, 7 blocks), Daniel Anderson (5 kills, 6 blocks), and Billy Davis (11 digs).

Thursday, April 24
Carlisle takes out Red Land 3-0

Carlisle had a clean sweep of Red Land Thursday night 25-18, 25-18, 25-19, in a Mid Penn AAA matchup.  Carlisle was able to stall the Red Land offense all night with agressive serving.  This moves Carlisle to 6-1 in AAA play, and Red Land to 2-5, ensuring that the Commonwealth Division will have all 4 of the Mid Penn playoff spots.  Kyle Adams (12 kills, 4 blocks, 3 aces) led the Herd offense with Justin Beachy (13 digs, 3 aces) playing nicely as always.  All players saw some playing time, and Dalton Bowser (So., OH) stepped in during the 3rd game to relieve Nate Wysocki, and played great.  Dan Hoy (7 kills, 2 aces), Nate Wysocki (5 kills), Billy Davis (9 digs), Eric Love (4 kills, 4 blocks), and Ed Benish (29 assists, 8 kills) all also contributed in the victory.  Carlisle starts the 2nd round of division matchups next week when they travel to CD East.

Deja Vu in loss to Northern

It seemed just like last year's match against Northern, back and forth with Carlisle seeming like the dominant team until the very end.  Carlisle had everything clicking defensively Tuesday night, but the offense struggled for a change.  Northern put up a strong block, and it kept them in command throughout games 4 and 5.  Carlisle's defense was for the most part unbelieveable, with a combined 94 team digs and 15 team blocks.  Unfortunately, Carlisle fell short losing in 5 games.  Games 4 and 5, Carlisle decided to move Justin Beachy to the outside and Billy Davis to Libero in order to rest Nate Wysocki.  Although the loss will not sit well, luckily Northern is a AA school, so it will not affect playoff standings.  Justin Beachy led the Herd with 39 digs, Kyle Adams had 12 kills, Ed Benish had 42 assists in the loss.  Carlisle travels to Red Land on Thursday in a AAA Mid Penn matchup.

Carlisle (4-1 Div., 5-1 AAA MP, 8-2 Overall)

Friday, April 18
Carlisle moves to 8-1 with win over Mechanicburg

If you were to walk into the gym during the 3rd game last night, you would have seen a different team out on the court than normal.  The Herd decided to see how they would play without seniors out on the court, sort of a preview for next season.  Carlisle won the 3rd game (25-21) and the match in order to move to 8-1 on the season.  Carlisle was dominate offensively all night and was able to win 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-21).  Kyle Adams and Justin Beachy each had 9 kills, and Justin also had 10 digs.  Carlisle also was led by Eric Love (6 kills, 3 blocks), Daniel Anderson (8 kills, 3 blocks, 3 aces), and Billy Davis (9 digs).  The setting spot was shared by Ed Benish and Terry Davis who had 19 assists and 17 assists respectively.  Carlisle hosts AA Ranked Northern York next Tuesday at 6:30.

Carlisle beats #6 Cumberland Valley

When Carlisle (7-1) and Cumberland Valley (7-1) play each other in any sport, it's a big deal, and any fan knows that they are in for a good game.  Tuesday night, the two squared off in a Commonwealth Mid Penn matchup, and it ended in Carlisle's favor.  In the first game Carlisle jumped out to an early lead, and finished strong to win 25-18.  Game two was back and forth right up until the end when CV prevailed 26-28.  Carlisle stayed poised in the third game even though things were close to win 27-25.  In the fourth game, things were smooth sailing as Carlisle won 25-15.  This marks the best start in Carlisle Boys' Volleyball History as the Herd improve at 7-1.  Carlisle was led by Kyle Adams (12 kills, 6 blocks), Eric Love (8 kills, 7 blocks), Dan Hoy (8 kills, 3 blocks), Justin Beachy (3 aces, 22 digs), Ed Benish (34 assists, 5 blocks, 4 kills), Daniel Anderson (3 kills, 2 blocks), and Nate Wysocki (5 kills).  This ends the first half of the season, and Carlisle travels to Mechanicsburg on Thursday.
