Williamsport Team:
Capitol 5 Newark National 4: Sean Treml's bases loaded walk in the bottom of the 6th provided the margin of victory for Capitol on Saturday morning. National jumped on top with a solo HR in the top of the second. Nick Sayers answered with a solo shot of his own. After National scored 2 more runs on wild pitches in the top of the 5th, Captiol came back and tied it up 3-3. Back to back singles with 2 outs in the top of the 6th gave National their 3rd lead of the game at 4-3, but Captiol came back strong in the bottom. Cory Alaburda laced a double over the centerfielders head to start the inning. Bradley Wisnoski's fly ball to right move him to third. After Ryan Campbell reached on an error, Zach Cooney legged out an infield single to load the bases. Zach Figliola took ball four to tie the game and Treml watched a 3-1 fastball miss the zone to provide the winning run. For the game, Treml and Figliola combined on a 4-hitter and Figliola went 3-3 with 2 RBI's. Capitol next plays Newark American, 5:30 PM at Wilmington LL.
Newark American 3 Capitol 1
Capitol 17 Midway 7
Capitol's bat finally came alive as they earned a hard fought comeback win versus Midway Thursday night. Zach Figliola got things going with a home run in the top of first. Midway answered back with 2 in the bottom of the 1st and 2 more in the bottom of the 2nd. With 2 outs and Bradley Wisnoski on 2nd, things started to turn. Figliola's single started a 7 run 2 out rally that saw Nick Sayers, Matt Trincia and Zach Cooney all single. Cooney's tied it at 4. That's when Sean Treml hit a line shot over of the left center field fence for a grand slam and Capitol never looked back. Figliola's 4th inning double, followed by Cory Alaburda's single added a couple more. In the 5th, Wisnoski's double keyed another 3 run inning and in the 6th and final frame Zach Cunningham's HR added an exclamation point to the victory. For the game Figliola and Cooney were both 4-4. Capitol will next face Suburban.
Capitol 9 Suburban 4
Capitol won tonight 9-4 behind a strong pitching effort by Zach Cunningham and Matt Trincia. Suburban got 1 early in the top of the first, but Capitol answered back with 4 in the bottom. The first 8 batters reached base, with Ryan Campbell, Zach Cooney, Sean Treml and Cory Alaburda all getting hits. Leadoff batter Campbell bluffed a steal of 3rd base, drawing an errent throw that led to the first 2 runs. With the score still 2-1, Cory Alaburda smacked a fastball into left field to make it 4-1. It was 4-3 in the 3rd when Capitol worked 4 consecutive walks and again forced a throwing error to go up 6-3. Craig Harris stole home to make it 7-3. In the 5th, Capitol put the game out of reach. Alaburda's double and Zach Figliola's single highlighted a 2 run inning. Trinicia came in to get the last 4 outs, after Cunningham pitched a strong 4 and 2/3. At one point, Cunningham got 7 consective outs, 6 of which were strikeouts. For the game, Cooney was 3-4, Figliola 2-3 and Alaburda 2-2. Capitol hopes to ride this momentum into Friday's game.
Canal 5 Capitol 3
After Canal jumped out 2-0 in the top of the first, starter Sean Treml settled down and went to work. His solo Home Run in the bottom of the 2nd got the offense going, and Zach Cunningham's solo shot tied up the game. Bottom of the 3rd, Zach Figliola's line drive home run into the picnic area put Capitol up 3-2. After an error with two outs in the 4th kept Canal's at bat alive, Mike Cippola hit a 2 run home run over the trees in left center to put Canal up for good. In the bottom of the 6th, Zach Cooney led off with a double which was followed by Nick Sayers getting hit by a pitch. Eventually Cory Alaburda walked to load the bases, but the rally was stopped short. It was a great game and a heart breaking loss for Capitol who has now been eliminated at the Williamsport level by Canal 3 straight years. For the tournament, Zach Figliola(12-16; .750 avg, 3 2B's, 1 3B and 2 HR's) and Zach Cooney(10-16; .625) led the offense.
