Capitol 11 New Castle 1 (4 innings)
Capitol defeated New Castle 11-1 in the opening round of the 11-12 year old international tournament on Saturday. Playing in front a large crowd at our home field the boys came out a little slow, trailing 1-0 heading into the bottom of the third. After Brendon Potts scored on a wild pitch, Sam Goines hit a 2-run shot over the left-center field fence to ignite Capitol's charge. Capitol put up 8 more runs in the 4th to close out a game that was called due to the 10 run rule. Keith Kubec pitched a brilliant game, giving up only 3 hits and allowing that lone run to score in the first. Keith also went 3 for 3 and scored the first run in the 8 run 4th inning. Capitol moves on to face Canal Thursday, July 7th @ Midway. Game time is 5:30.
Game 2: Canal 8 Capitol 0

In an exciting and competitive game Capitol won 4-3 over Brandywine.
Kyle Roach and Brendon Potts keyed and early offensive punch by singling. After Roach stole home, Sam Goines doubled down the line to bring in 2 runs. Sam was dominant on the mound, only allowing 3 hits in the victory. Capitol moves on the play the loser of Midway/Newark National Friday night at Naamans.
Midway 4 Capitol 3
Capitol's run toward a district crown ended tonight vs a strong Midway team. Keith Kubec pitched a beautiful game and kept the boys in it until the end. Trailing 4-1 going into the top of the 6th Capitol's bats woke up and provided some fire works. Evan Hughes single to left was followed by Mike Wisnoski's single up the middle. Some creative baserunning led to Midway's centerfielder throwing the ball into their dugout which scored Hughes. Kubec followed with a walk. With 2 outs Danny McDermott legged out an infield hit and brought Sammy Goines to bat. Goines was intentionally walked to load the bases, but the rally fell short after that. It was a great effort on the part of a very young team featuring 9 11 year olds. They played beyond their years with the help of the 12 year old leaders of the team Goines, Wisnoski and Roach. The District finals will be held on July 21st(if game 22nd) @ Newark National. States will be at Seaford starting July 26th.

Game 2: Naamans 8 Capitol 5 Unfortunately our Junior All-Star play came to an end late last night at Midway LL. Capitol held on to a 4-0 lead going into the bottom of the 6th inning behind an unbelievable pitching performance by Tyler Hawthorne. Naamans' bats came alive in the bottom of the 6th and took the lead 5-4. Capitol rallied in the top of the 7th when the Naamans pitcher committed a balk thus scoring DJ Miller who was on third at the time. Naamans was able to put two base runners on in the bottom of the 7th when Kip Skibicki hit an opposite field, walk-off home run (it was a bomb!) to win the game, 8-5. What a way to end it....Little League baseball at its best! The boys were upset, but a lot of them are already looking forward to next year. Manager Bob Lougheed and his assistant coaches, Bobby Nicholson, Dean Burroughs, and Chris Ryan, did OUTSTANDING job coaching our boys!
