CLL's Ryan Enns- Finalist in Hit, Run & Throw Contest
CLL's Ryan Enns will be competing Aug.12 at New Britain Stadium before the Rock Cats game in this year's Hit, Run and Throw competition. The program for 9- and 10-year-old Little Leaguers tests their skills in running the bases, throwing accuracy and hitting for distance off a tee. Three semifinal rounds were held in July. Ryan is one of nine finalists from surrounding area Little League teams. The winner will earn a $1,000 donation for his league. WAY TO GO RYAN !
CANTON 11/12 GIRLS SOFTBALL ALLSTARS CAPTURE DISTRICT 6 CHAMPIONSHIP!
Simsbury, CT, July 13, 2009 - Canton's 11/12 Softball Allstars outlasted Granby 11-10 in a thrilling championship game to win the 2009 District 6 title. The team's roster includes: Danielle and Emily Chouinard, Kylie Delos, Erin Detorie, Emma First, Elizabeth Graves, Kiley Loureiro, Alex Martin, Olivia Pelehach, Alex Powell, Gabby Rose, Morgan Scafuri, and Katie Walker. Manager and Coaches are Tom Scafuri, Jack Powell and Joe Pelehach.
CANTON 9/10 ALLSTARS DEFEAT BURLINGTON, 14-3July 12, 2009, Burlington, CT- Canton’s 9/10 All-Stars finished a successful District 6 Tournament with a resounding 14-3 victory over defending state champion Burlington, in a game shortened to 5 innings due to the mercy rule. Canton’s Peter Myers threw 4 and 1/3 innings striking out 10 and allowing only 3 hits. Matt Walzak got the save as he came in with one out in the fifth, striking out 1 and picking off a runner trying to steal third to end the game. Canton’s offense again got on the board quickly in the first as Trey VanDeBogart singled, and Myers doubled him home. Ethan Burke contributed 2 RBI’s in the second with a ringing double to center. Braedon Bean singled in the 3rd and scored on Cam Neeley’s single up the middle. Neeley then scored on a nice RBI single by Jordan Small. One of the big hits of the game came in the 4th with men on second and third as Tiegan Aitken smashed a single to left center to score both runs. Joseph Bowman got his first RBI of the season with a bases loaded infield grounder in the 5th inning to conclude the scoring for Canton Canton finishes 3-1, scoring 57 runs in 4 games, while allowing only 7 to the opposite teams.
CANTON 9/10 ALL-STARS TRIUMPH OVER THOMASTON, 27-0
Thomaston, July 9, 2009
Canton’s 9/10 year old All Stars continued their winning ways with a 27-0 victory over Thomaston in District 6 Tournament play Thursday night halted after 4 innings due to the mercy rule. The offensive onslaught was unleashed in the first inning with a key bases-loaded two out single by utility fielder Mathew Walzak as Canton sent 21 men to the plate and scored 15 in the first inning. Walzak contributed two singles and 4 RBI’s in the first inning, in addition to RBI singles by Ryan Enns, Jake Sullivan and Jordan Small in the same inning. Peter Myers, Ethan Burke, Cam Neeley and Josh Powell all provided RBI singles in the 2nd and 3rd innings. On the mound, Myers and Burke combined for 7 strikeouts, and allowed only 1 hit and 2 baserunners in their 4 innings of work. Cam Neeley made a nice play on an attempted bunt in the first inning, and Jordan Small made a nice catch at first base to shut the door on Thomaston’s offense.

CANTON ALL-STARS ROLL OVER TRI-TOWN, 14-1
Jordan Small pitched a complete game, scattering 6 hits while Canton’s 9-10 year old All Stars exploded for 14 runs in the District 6 Tournament yesterday. The offensive explosion was capped by a 3-run homerun over the right field fence by 9 year old Ryan Enns in the fifth inning. The entire team provided offensive support with doubles from Peter Myers, Ethan Burke, Josh Frigo, and Jake Sullivan. Trey VanDeBogart, Cam Neeley all singled and scored runs. Small was helped out defensively in the field by stellar plays from 3rd baseman Josh Frigo, shortstop Peter Myers, 2nd baseman Trey VanDeBogart, and 1st baseman Ethan Burke, who together combined for 10 outs with no errors. A nifty double play from Small to Myers to Burke ended the game.
CONGRATULATIONS to the CANTON HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS VARSITY SOFTBALL TEAM - 2009 CONNECTICUT CLASS "S" STATE CHAMPS! Most if not all of the team participated in CLL Majors Softball only a couple years ago. WAY TO GO CHS GIRLS SOFTBALL, including coaches Doug Clement, Charlie Batan, Steve Eldridge and John Snyder (who are also current and former CLL coaches)!
CLL THUNDER & LIGHTNING STORM POLICY: With Thunder & Lightning storms always possible this time of year, its important to emphasize that IF YOU HEAR THUNDER OR SEE LIGHTNING, YOU NEED TO GET INSIDE A CAR IMMEDIATELY! Do not stand in the Dugout or Snack Shack during the storm. CLL Umpires and Managers/Coaches have been advised of this procedure and instructed to wait 30 minutes after the last occurance of lightning or thunder before resuming activities. Meet Bob Barnes, CLL's Umpire-In-Chief
CLL's Bob Barnes started his umpiring carrier as a teenager in the early 1980s, volunteering for Little League Baseball as well as men’s and women’s softball. While in the U.S. Navy he also served as a Little League Umpire in Orlando- Florida, Waukegan- Illinois, & Norfolk- Virginia between deployments. Most recently, Bob has been a Canton Little League volunteer umpire for the past 3 seasons and is a member of CLL's Board of Directors. He has attended the Northeast Region's Umpire Training School in Bristol, Connecticut and is certified as an official Little League Umpire.
